First of all no one in the world is a saint. And we don’t know what goes on behind anyone’s close doors. What Hillary and her husband decide is none of our business . They went to counseling and she made a decision maybe not all of us would do. Her decision had nothing to do with politics. She won the popujar vote. Our electoral college IMO is archaic and needs to go.
Women who are poor can not afford children nor birth control if their employer decides they won’t allow the insurance company to pay for it. So it’s okay to have these children born to poor people who have to put them in foster care or up for adoption. That system is stressed itself with little money.

Exactly SueDonim. If they spent more time making life better for children instead of pushing more and more of their families into poverty, I might have more understanding of these people's views on abortion and contraception.

Not all Americans like Obama because they hoped for much much more from him and he didn’t /couldn't manage to deliver.Trump may well have the same problems.
The US system of healthcare is nothing like our model, Obamacare was not universally liked, it seemed ok to us, but that’s because we are not American citizens, and they do things differently.

Let's have a look at Mr Trump. He doesn't smoke, drink or take drugs, is only taking a token $1 annual salary during his time in the White House and, yes, he doesn't think women should kill their unborn babies. What a party pooper that man is! He has said inappropriate things about women. Like a lot of millionaires he thinks young women who are impressionable and eager to be in their company are easy that is probably true in a lot of cases, I'm afraid. Show me a man who has never said anything derogatory about a women and I'll show you a liar. However, in my experience, it is actually other woman who speak ill of other woman but that's by the by.

Yet people would still rather have Hillary with her sleezy husband, Mr Bill ' I never had sex with that woman, judge' Well, why was your sperm all over her dress then, Mr president!' Clinton. He seemed very keen for his wife to get into the White House so he could continue to have more of the same, I expect, but hey I'm sure a woman who allowed her husband to humiliate her in front of the whole world would have made a great President.

I was working in women's health back then and remember the patchwork of provision very well. We were planning to move to an authority that did not have free provision, and I got the chance to take part in a drug trial. The free pills carried me through to 1974!

I could not have afforded a private prescription (for the pill) in 1969 when I first started taking it. My flat mate got it from her Dr in 1968.

Because of the age span of women on here, our experience of contraceptive provision in the UK will have been different.
Before 1974, it was not part of the NHS. As adaunas described, you could go to a charitably funded family planning clinic, where you were asked to contribute what you could afford, some local authorities provided free family planning, and some GP s would do a free consultation ( they were not obliged to), but you had to pay privately for the prescription. This was then all brought under the NHS for free.
Of course those who felt it a completely private matter could make their own arrangements or pay privately, as I gather some of the posters on here did.

Most 'western democracies ' enable contraceptive advice to be provided free or at minimum cost, through various systems, regarding it as a matter of public health. We know that the US does things differently!

It's a third world country really. They never have had to recognise that social risk sharing (or the welfare state as we used to say) is actually a good thing for those risks we really cannot cope with alone.

And it isn't the employers who provide the contraception, it's the insurance scheme that is part of the salary package which the employers have because there isn't an NHS.

Yes the pill is free. So your argument is?

Why would anyone want contraception provided by employers? When we were first married and managing on £10 per week, I did get free contraception from the FP clinic but once I was earning, we thought it was our responsibility to pay . Do women on the pill here get it on free prescriptions?
