child-on-child sex offences

We are letting our children down in a major way aren't we. I read this morning the suggestion that the increase in sexual offences by children on other children was the direct result of children being given sex education. Honestly - as long as that kind of ridiculous notion takes precedence ov er the need for age appropriate information, especially about relationships we're all doomed .
Casual sexism, exploitation of children by their exposure to the worst elements of the so called celebrity culture and total confusion in many places about what constitutes sexual harassment or assault.

Once again I totally agree with you MOnica it may be that more is being reported, it also really depends on the seriousness of the crime as well remember all the bra pinging we used to go through I know one thing the good looking lads get pestered by the girls my daughter was horrified at some of the texts my grandson got when he went up to high school She made it very clear to him that if he followed through with what the girls were asking it would be him not them going on the sex offenders list Thankfully that scared him but it’s not nice for boys as well as girls

I wonder what they would make of our "I'll show you mine if you show me your's" games in the 50s? I suppose the difference is that we really had no idea what we were looking at or why.

I agree with all comments already made, but what makes me really angry is the ridiculous programmes like the ones where we see couples choosing each other solely by looking at their body parts, & is the other one Love Island where they are filmed having sex with virtual strangers, plus the continual bombardment on all social media based on looks , bodies, sexuality etc etc , The Suffragettes would turn in their graves ?

I approach these figures with caution they are REPORTED incidents. The change could just be that more people are reporting incidents that they previously would not have reported.

I can remember, when at school in the 1950s incidents of boys grabbing girls and touching them intimately when running around in the play ground. Now this would be reported. Then we took no notice and ran on.

I’m not really surprised I think another cause is we are slowly being de-sensitised to things. We see so much violence, sex , bad language, mans inhumanity to man on the tv or internet that it doesn’t shock us any more .

Add to that a generation that don’t get exposed to the consequences of their actions and who admire people famous for merely being famous and I see a whole world of pain in the future.

I don't find the results surprising, there is so much that is available that it is impossible to think that young minds will not be corrupted. I think there is a whole storm brewing for future generations with exposure to violence and porn at such a young age. Somehow we have allowed this to happen with the net being allowed to develop without any real policing.

Yes I agree that children are exposed to things on their mobiles and tv screens that they're far too young to understand or process. The easy availability of porn is a real concern to me.
Children have always explored their bodies with each other and in the past it was unlikely the police would have become involved. Of course young children can only have explicit knowledge of sexual behaviour if they've been sexually abused or exposed to porn or adult sexual behaviour.

They see too much before they're ready to understand it.

Is a 17 year old a child? - they can marry.

It is all so sad - children are sexualised so young - it is everywhere in the media, unmediated by morality and socialisation. How very depressing.

I'm not surprised by the increase in numbers. I'm very broad minded and not easily shocked but some of the things my daughter tells me relating to images found on school children's phones is horrendous.
And these are junior school children.
