This as the Labour Party conference , a momentum fringe meeting.

Corbyn attended Momentum fringe invites but turned down Friends of Israel invite.

Very Donald Trump isn't it?

Anniebach Wed 13-Dec-17 18:59:11

Confused of Wales here

How could Corbyn describe the soldiers who fought in the Falklands as - sending unemployed men sent to die. Are our armed forces all classed unemployed ?

Primrose65 Wed 13-Dec-17 18:51:07

To lighten the mood - just saw this on Twitter and it made me smile.

"Jeremy Corbyn wins free coffee at local Cafe after completing loyalty card. Yet the mainstream media remains silent!"

Anniebach Wed 13-Dec-17 18:47:28

Which Tory voted x number of times , hope I never become so bored that I would have a need to look that up, sad

whitewave Wed 13-Dec-17 18:47:21

grin want a bet?

Primrose65 Wed 13-Dec-17 18:43:15

You're the only person who cares about the Tories ww and their voting record.
You can give JC & Momentum the scrutiny they deserve whatever your politics.

whitewave Wed 13-Dec-17 18:19:02

Interested to hear the amount of times various Tory MPs have voted against their own party.

So Corbyn isn’t the only one.

Umunna listed the following

Davis 90 Times
Fox 19 Times.
Leadsom 7 Times
Redwood 17 Times
Jenkin 95 Times
Cash 100+ Times.

How naughty!

Royal Mail did a series of replies regarding nationalisation around a month ago (16th November, if you want to check their twitter feed) in response to the renationalisation
"Royal Mail is one of very few companies to pay more in pension contributions than dividends (to shareholders)"
"We are proud to be one of the most widely held stocks in the UK. 20% of our business is owned by our employees and small investors."
"Under state ownership, we paid higher interest rates on loans from the Government than we do now to private sector institutions"

Momentum/Corbyn don't even understand the structure of the industry they want to renationalise by the looks of it dbDB77. What could possibly go wrong?

dbDB77 Wed 13-Dec-17 17:20:27

Fennel - the Royal Mail and the Post Office are different organisations - do Momentum want to nationalise the Post Offices as well?
I think the greatest impact on the Royal Mail has been the advent of emails etc - far fewer letters - and the increase in online shopping meaning more parcels. Their business model must have changed considerably. Nationalisation may not be the answer.

whitewave Wed 13-Dec-17 17:20:18

Fennel grin useful to hear these wicked people and the nerve they have to actually have an opinion about stuff. How very dare they!

dbDB77 Wed 13-Dec-17 17:11:59

Primrose - I read that article about the intimidation of parliamentary candidates - very worrying - it threatens our democracy - not just the intimidation but also the blatant lies told about candidates - which are then retweeted (or whatever) to thousands of people - this obviously has an impact on an election and yet there seems to be no mechanism to hold people to account. Momentum's grasp of social media gives them great power in this regard.

Fennel Wed 13-Dec-17 17:11:53

My latest email from Momentum, yesterday, was a short advert showing the effect on Xmas post because of post office closures.
They support nationalisation of Royal Mail. That doesn't sound too extreme to me.

Haringey, is that where the HDV is being set up? Don’t residents fear a form of social cleansing? Did the council talk about “poor doors” so that the wealthy do not have to dirty their view with the working class?

Isn’t that where a major development company will get its hands on 50% of the council assets in the form of land, and where the right of veto will be lost, thus no democratic process?
Isn’t that where the councils planning committee has twice this year called a total halt to the plans as they were so alarmed at the implication of the deal, but were ignored by Kober?
Isn’t that where the entire liberal, greens and some labour councillors suppose what Kober is doing?
Isn’t that where social housing tenants will be evicted in order to develop the land.
Isn’t that a form of social cleansing?
Isn’t that where the subsequent development will not be social housing, but private property with only 31% affordable.
Isn’t that where the leader of the council refuses to listen to any objections?

Is it any surprise that movements like momentum are gaining popularity and likely to win council, seats apposing these zombie councillors?

Anniebach Wed 13-Dec-17 15:59:36

Momentum should not have the power to select or de select any MP or councillor , they already have Corbyn on a rein

trisher Wed 13-Dec-17 15:34:15

Isn't it funny when Momentum try to influence the selection of MPs they are criticised by the same people who are now supporting the removal of sitting councillors because they supported Jeremy Corbyn. Seems it's one rule for one lot of people and another for the rest. Still I suppose it's wrong to expect logic and reason from people who keep seeing Reds under the Beds!

Anniebach Wed 13-Dec-17 15:29:04

grin true

Primrose65 Wed 13-Dec-17 15:25:27

grin
I'm sure the taxpayer will be a "nice little earner".

Primrose65 Wed 13-Dec-17 14:42:28

Annie Momentum are trying to take over London Councils. I think they are looking to gain a critical number so that they can try and pressure the government about something - it's the easiest way to impact millions of people with your actions. John McDonnell tried to cause chaos when he refused to set a rate at the GLC.
I'm keeping an eye on it, as one of my children lives in the Borough of Haringey which will become the first 'Momentum' London Council.
Thanks for the link to the article smile

Primrose65 Wed 13-Dec-17 14:36:19

Is mimicking cutting someone's throat in front of their child 'freedom of speech' ww? That's not defensible for me and I would describe it as intimidation.
The Adam Smith Institute has only disagreed that social media platforms should be liable for the content they distribute. I agree with them on that. However, that is not the whole of the report and it doesn't cover the points made about Momentum.

Lord Bew and his call to limit the freedom of speech is working up to be quite an interesting debate.

The Adam Smith Institute has said that Lord Bew is wrong.
