Westminster and sexual harassment

I am probably going to be shot down in flames here but I am feeling really rattled by the perfect storm of sexual harassment complaints that are appearing. The latest - and the one that has provoked me to ask other Gransnetters what they think, is an incident where a Minister touched the knee of a female reporter at a dinner several times, she evidently told him to stop or she would 'punch his face' , he stopped, and apologised. this was in 2002 but she has now chosen to tell.
This seems to me a vindictive move or have I got the thinking all wrong? She dealt with a clumsy groper in a very robust way, and well done that woman, so why is the man now being publicly castigated for an incident that appeared to be done and dusted fifteen years ago?

My son knows someone who suffered inappropriate sexual behaviour in the Commons from an M.P. twice her age. There is nothing trivial about this problem.

I think you are spot on MaizieD. I think that the sexual harassment scandal currently hitting Parliament is a symptom of the problem in society as a whole where the treatment of women and their exclusion from power is historical and culturally embedded.

I notice that the Daily Mail is piling on on the side of the abusive men, with a vengeance. These headlines: "Hare-brained hysteria and the death of British sense of fairness", and the how-low-can-you-sink: "What will women gain by this squawking about sex-pets? A niqab"

Was it wikipaedia that refused to accept DM as a proper news outlet?
Why can't Gransnet?

The DM has always been a sexist rag and thus would never have ever supported any side other than the abusers. But even by its abysmal standards the articles by Vine and Hitchens in recent days have plumbed new depths. They are clearly terrified that change may be on the cards.
