Thoughts and prayers for the families of those killed today

I'm surprised no one has commented on this post about yet another terror attack, where 8 people died sadsad

Mayve the title didn't grab peoples attention.

Just learned of this on the radio 4 news this morning nina . There was a discussion about it afterwards where everyone seemed to agree that there was little you could do to stop this kind of attack. The perpetrator was not known to the police or security forces and how would you stop any lunatic from hiring a van and driving into a crowd? I have noticed more bollards/stone blocks appearing around places where crowds gather but you can't cover everywhere with barriers can you?

Terribly sad for the victims and their families.

Should TM now Tweet that the USA cannot deal with its terrorism problem?

gillybob Wed 01-Nov-17 10:14:38

Considering the size of the country in comparison the USA suffer much less "real" terrorism than we do her in the UK. Their (many) incidents tend to be home grown idiots with guns. Which has got me wondering if getting a gun is so damned easy in the US why go to the trouble of hiring a van?

Apologies in advance for the phrase "real terrorism" couldn't think how else to describe it.

Do we know for sure it was a terrorist and not some loon? It was assumed almost immediately in USA that it was a terrorist.

They shot the guy and arrested him. I believe he is a fairly recent (within last 10 yrs) immigrant.

I didn't comment earlier because I looked, my heart sank and what can one say that hasn't already been said?

Surely to god the clues were there. He comes from a country that is an Isis stronghold Uzbekistan.

loopyloo Wed 01-Nov-17 19:14:32

So true MaizieD. At least he only killed 4 people . If he had been an American with an assault rifle it would have been much worse. Dreadful that I can say that.

petra, you could become an advisor to the Potus given your analysis of the risk posed by anyone who comes from Uzbekistan.
He's talking about making it more difficult to immigrate into the US. No mention of the hundreds injured and killed by the White American man in Vegas.

I doubt that the Potus has ever heard of Uzbekistan let alone knows where it is.
There's not a lot the US can do about home grown killers but the CIA should have been aware of Uzbekistan, no surprise there that they don't. Wasn't it the CIA who believed everything a local (in Iraq) told them that Sadam had WMD.
