I know what you were trying to say, Tegan. I felt it myself, though I thought maybe it would be a bit 'Leaverish' to point out that they could return to their country of origin...

Then I wondered how much right they had to try to mould 'my' country into their vision of it. But I suppose we all try to do that, if the truth be known.

Whatever, we don't want to be kept in the dark about the Brexit impact assessments.

It still confuses me that people whose parents chose to come here to make a new life for themselves do not want other to have the right to do the same . Then again, maybe it's the fact that their parents DID come here that changed it from 'that' country into a different country because they are now here. In which case, maybe they should go back to the country their parents came from in the first place [it's ok; I'm confusing myself here ]...

But it is the Britain they chose to make their new lives in, isn't it Beau. They just want something that doesn't exist. Everyone gets scared of change at times - it doesn't mean it's wrong.

I'm still extremely proud that we had the courage of our convictions and voted Leave - the EU is finished. There is now even a possibility that Merkel will have to call another election as her 'coalition' efforts are in complete disarray. Today Austria has appointed a right wing anti-EU Foreign Minister. Meanwhile JCJ is still harping on about one EU president, one EU tax collector, 1 EU army etc. etc. And as
for all this talk about who voted Leave in our referendum, it makes me laugh out loud considering it was confidential, like all votes. No-one I know has changed their mind and almost everyone I know who voted Leave were graduates, including doctors and lawyers in their thirties and forties. Interestingly, a lot of the Leave voters I know are first generation immigrants - they don't think this country is any longer the Britain that they chose to make their new lives in, the country they were proud to call their new home.

I cannot believe that May and her team have gone so far with Brexit without carrying out any proper impact assessments. They are such charlatans, I'm amazed that anyone at all has any respect left for them.

I have just been talking to someone who voted leave and 'sovereignty' came up. This person did not believe that governments have always traded a degree of sovereignty for things that they want - trade, allies, etc., They did say they understood the ceding of some sovereignty in the case of overseas territories or dominions, but that they always thought that the sovereignty of these British Isles was sacrosanct.

I did answer but I wondered what you all would have said to this.

We had the 3 day week, got used to endless power cuts, fuel rationing, having to go with our begging bowl to the IMF, the Winter of discontent, no rubbish collected, bodies not buried; you could not exchange pounds for any other currency anywhere in Europe.....even Italy...the IRA bombing with impunity.

DJ I've read with interest the links you've posted. At the time I felt Labour picked the wrong Milliband but David Milliband is no longer an MP so cannot stand for leader. We all agree that Brexit is in a total mess with no politician offering any hint of how to sort it out.

I can't believe that both the Tory and Labour parties are intent on pushing on with Brexit whatever the consequences. Surely sooner or later they must realize the hopelessness of their case. That would of course be "Against the will of the people" over turning the referendum.

A conundrum that will put both Mrs May and Mr Corbyn in a catch 22 position. What will they do then?

Who if anyone will rise to the occasion and save our country? There are some with the necessary intellect in both main parties but do they have the courage to grasp a very toxic nettle.
