Priti Patel deserves her own thread

Why hasn't she been sacked already? She goes in holiday, holds 10 meetings with a range of senior figures, including BN without telling the FO and even worse, suggesting that BJ knew about it in advance. Downing Street says she has been reminded ' of the obligations which exist under the ministerial code ' -oh you mean doing what you want in foreign countries and then lying about it?

I asked them what the benefits of leaving the E.U. would be. No answer was the loud reply...

durhamjen Fri 10-Nov-17 16:21:44

And if they do start their own thread about the positives of Brexit, we will leave them to do it.
Wasn't it whitewave who started just such a thread, but they couldn't think of any positives.

Morgana Fri 10-Nov-17 16:20:58

Thought Petra was being sarcastic...... Hard to believe that some people seem to blame Iran for Boris sentencing N. Radcliffe to even more years in prison.

MaizieD Fri 10-Nov-17 16:15:55

I am getting so tired of this forum.

You are at perfect liberty not to read it, you know.

Or to start some non controversial topic.

Or to start your own pro Brexit thread setting out all the expert Leavers' opinions and predictions for how it's going to be a perfect bonanza for the UK. (not just unevidenced opinion)

We just post the views of those who can see a downside , which is understandable.

Just moaning about evil Left Wing Remainers really doesn't add anything to the conversation.

I'm sure that you do represent the views of many Gnetters. They mostly fall within the demographic of which the most voted Leave. But that doesn't mean that everyone else has to shut up.

durhamjen Fri 10-Nov-17 15:56:52

You can watch it as well if you like, petra.

petra Fri 10-Nov-17 15:43:15

Day6
Once again, you speak for so many on GN.

durhamjen Fri 10-Nov-17 15:30:27

Please read and watch this. lemon and Day6.
It's from Richard Radcliffe about his wife and what Boris said means for her.

www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/richard-ratcliffe/nazanin-zaghari-ratcliffe_b_18512176.html?utm_hp_ref=uk-boris-johnson

Then find some way to criticise us for wanting Boris gone.

Tegan2 Fri 10-Nov-17 15:18:38

At least us rabid left wing remainers don't constantly come up with excuses for incompetent government ministers just because they happen to be a] Conservative and b]brexiters.

lemongrove Fri 10-Nov-17 15:01:13

Far from any bashing of the Iranian regime ( on GN) there is even some kind of praise for it..... enough to make a cat laugh.

loopyloo Fri 10-Nov-17 14:51:27

Day6
You are not alone.

Day6 Fri 10-Nov-17 14:49:16

Lemongrave, I am getting so tired of this forum. The people who contribute tend to be left wing/pro EU and spend their time savaging anything or anyone who is off a different mindset.

It has to be said they do talk to themselves.

It also has to be said that there must be some sort of reciprocal anti-EU, left wing feed and think tank keeping it all going.

Was listening to LBC talk this morning and the presenter made a huge deal of this old news about Patel and the British workforce. He was almost salivating. He too was a Remainer, he too was left wing and anyone not agreeing with him was shot down. It was like more really old dirt he could dig up.

Now, did he read Gransnet or is there a left wing resource pile somewhere with ammo to be used against the government?

Every bit of news is given an anti-government spin. Patel has gone and rightly so but now because of an oppressive and misogynist regime in Iran, Boris Johnson is being hung out to dry by left wingers. He is a buffoon but no one seems to see both sides of the story or indeed look for the truth. Boris is in the frame and let's use this to bash TM and the government. There has been no bashing of the Iranian regime I note.

I cannot be the only on to have noticed. Very few people contribute to the News and Politics forum and I can understand why. It's like pissing in the wind to try and divert the left wing, Remain flow.

lemongrove Fri 10-Nov-17 14:36:04

How do you know that she was appointed on the basis of her being a Brexiteer....you say these things with such confidence as if you are in the Cabinet and know all that is going on! grin There will be more to her appointment than that.Is there some pearl clutching going on about a ‘smutty sense of humour’ here ( didn’t know people used the term these days.)
I am more concerned that she gets on and does a good job and couldn’t give two hoots about her humour.
Many on GN ( Remainers) have praised Ken Clarke btw.

maryeliza54 Fri 10-Nov-17 12:11:07

Nice definition of ‘gunning for’. I rather think we’re criticising her appointment which was made on the basis of her being a Brexiteer. She has a track record of lying and indulging in a ‘smutty’ sense of humour treating speaking in the house as a bit of a joke. Your last sentence is ridiculous. I can’t think of any Tory MP I would heap praise on just because they were Remain. I’ve some time for SW as she has some integrity but feel she’s basically in the wrong party.

lemongrove Fri 10-Nov-17 12:00:35

Sad to see older women who should know better, gunning for a woman in politics for no good reason other than she happens to be a Conservative and supports leaving the EU.
I can imagine the praise that would be heaped upon her ( Penny Mordaunt) if she had happened to be either a Labour MP or a Conservative but a rabidly pro EU one.Hmmmm.

durhamjen Fri 10-Nov-17 09:56:31

www.sub-scribe.co.uk/2017/02/the-press-and-immigration-part-ii.html

Here's a source for thinking that we shouldn't cite the Daily Mail for anything. I wonder if it's required reading for Priti and Penny.

whitewave Fri 10-Nov-17 09:51:39

The Independent reports that Mordaunts main qualification for the job is that she is a Brexiter.

It certainly comes to something when a job absolutely not related to Brexit and whose incumbent one would like to see with particular qualities, is being filled by someone like Mordaunt.

MaizieD Fri 10-Nov-17 09:22:44

I think you've responded on the wrong thead eazybee

But; it's always useful if people link to their sources as it gives others a chance to check them.

eazybee Fri 10-Nov-17 08:30:06

My sources? Same as everyone else: a range of television, radio and newspaper reports; occasional research via the internet, a political discussion group of all persuasions, all viewed with some cynicism and some common sense.

whitewave Fri 10-Nov-17 08:03:31

She likes to lie as well

maryeliza54 Fri 10-Nov-17 07:37:48

It’s just so reassuring isn’t it that in addition to the oh-so-funny cock speech, she also made the House laugh - oh how they laughed - by using the words testicles and penis in a speech. She really likes to be one of the lads - I suppose it’s the RN thing.

whitewave Fri 10-Nov-17 07:19:37

Penny Mordaunt grin another whose ambitions outstrip her abilities.

maryeliza54 Thu 09-Nov-17 23:35:51

Talk about damning with faint praise lemon

durhamjen Thu 09-Nov-17 22:12:40

Did you have to explain?
"Sorry, I'd love to chat, but...."

Tegan2 Thu 09-Nov-17 21:56:18

..it was such a relief to have bumped into a 'celeb' who would understand my predicament..blush,,,

lemongrove Thu 09-Nov-17 21:45:54

Penny Mordaunt is a good choice smile and will do a better job than Patel all round IMHO.
