Priti Patel deserves her own thread

Why hasn't she been sacked already? She goes in holiday, holds 10 meetings with a range of senior figures, including BN without telling the FO and even worse, suggesting that BJ knew about it in advance. Downing Street says she has been reminded ' of the obligations which exist under the ministerial code ' -oh you mean doing what you want in foreign countries and then lying about it?

maryeliza54 Mon 06-Nov-17 16:02:45

Make that 12 meetings

whitewave Mon 06-Nov-17 16:17:41

She is known to be “thick” - not my words, and has been tipped as a possible PM shock

whitewave Mon 06-Nov-17 16:18:21

What, I wonder, were her meetings about?

Cindersdad Mon 06-Nov-17 17:03:59

Remember the Peter Principle "Every employee tends to raise to their level of incompetence" Certainly holds true for PP and others.

Do any of them know what they are doing?

tessagee Mon 06-Nov-17 17:24:59

I had high hopes for PP particularly with regard to her addressing the problems we are having with the overseas aid programme. I'm disappointed that she too seems to have fallen from grace.

I cannot accept her lying. That should be a sackable offence. But TM cannot leak any more ministers or she will be sitting all on her lone-ee-o.

Tegan2 Mon 06-Nov-17 18:17:20

'She is known to be “thick” - not my words, and has been tipped as a possible PM'; isn't that requirement for the job?

maryeliza54 Mon 06-Nov-17 18:22:55

Her meetings were basically ‘Hello Israel, what would you like us to do for you?’ She is a huge supporter of Israel. Given the complexities of Middle East politics, it’s easy to see the potential for harm.

GracesGranMK2 Mon 06-Nov-17 18:45:35

Why hasn't she been sacked already?

Because May is too weak.

I think Boris should be on his way out too. His 'gaffe' this time or, as I like to call it 'misleading statement' (because this man cannot even lie straight in bed) may mean that Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s sentence in Iran may be increase!

Talk about the ship of state. It is actually being driven toward every iceberg around.

Jalima1108 Mon 06-Nov-17 19:29:13

I told DH that she had said:
British workers are among the worst idlers in the world

and he asked if she was including herself in that number.

jura2 Mon 06-Nov-17 19:35:35

The title really bugs me, sorry. Priti Patel 'deserves' nothing - but the sack.

GracesGranMK2 Mon 06-Nov-17 19:38:42

She really is a nasty, supercilious, piece of work in a position she would never be in if May had a stronger government.

Agree Jura.

JessM Mon 06-Nov-17 19:53:10

She is also the politician who came out and blatantly admitted, in a talk to the IOD a few weeks before the referendum, that one of the advantages of leaving the EU would be cutting back on "the costs of employment" - i.e. maternity leave, parental leave etc. Sadly this did not get as much publicity as it should have done.

GracesGranMK2 Mon 06-Nov-17 20:02:29

I know Jess but she is part of the far-right, neoliberal gang who have been driving the Tories away from any sense of the old Conservative values and toward as society with few rules and regulations because all they are interested in is a few people getting very rich.

She will continue, as Boris does, to try and move the position of the Government in the direction they desire and May is too fragile to be able to stop people like her, or any of these people who have driven us towards Brexit, not because it would be good for the country but because it will be good for them and their friends.

M0nica Mon 06-Nov-17 20:50:06

Priti is a prat and Boris is an embarrassment.

JessM Mon 06-Nov-17 21:33:18

Absolutely GGMk2

maryeliza54 Mon 06-Nov-17 22:51:43

PP and BJ - the faces we are presenting to the world. Both liars and both jeopardising our future international relations - it would be funny if it weren’t so serious. We are staggering into the abyss - TM cannot keep going surely- we are now at the tipping point.

maryeliza54 Mon 06-Nov-17 22:52:36

What PP did deserves a much harsher condemnation than her bring a prat.

GillT57 Mon 06-Nov-17 23:17:16

PP has been caught out lying and thus should be sacked, but as May is losing MPs like autumn leaves (or should I say conkers?) PP is unlikely to do anything. Her authority is non-existent and she is being made to look foolish and weak.

Morgana Tue 07-Nov-17 12:46:11

I thought she was supposed to be far right and very Christian. So what was she talking about in 12 meetings? A friend says she is also very corrupt....

whitewave Tue 07-Nov-17 12:55:08

I read that Patel is was “open” to giving aid to the Israeli army!!!

jura2 Tue 07-Nov-17 12:59:04

That has actually been confimed by Number 10, that she wanted to divert Foreign Aid money to the Israeli army in illegal occupied territories - and for that she has to be sacked- no question.

whitewave Tue 07-Nov-17 13:08:10

Bloody hell!!

Now Johnson -

Green - extreme pornography
Fallon -resigned dodgy sexual dealings
Blimey I could go on and on.

It is getting ridiculous

GracesGranMK2 Tue 07-Nov-17 13:28:50

The latest news is that Patel didn’t just meet PM Benjamin Netanyahu, she came back and formulated policy, including a new plan to give British aid to the Israeli army’s humanitarian efforts. No10 told us yesterday that May had summoned Patel to a meeting and reprimanded her by “reminding her of her obligations under the ministerial code”. May has even asked for the code to be clarified on overseas representation. Cabinet Office ethics chief Sue Gray will not be investigating either Patel or Johnson, but she is investigating whether a minister talked about a sex toy years before he was a minister. This all shows that as well as an independent system for sex harassment complaints, we need a truly independent system in Whitehall for investigating breaches of the ministerial code.
