I see the EU Remainers' PROJECT FEAR is alive and well.

I look forward to us leaving the EU.

The scare-mongering Remainers write post after post predicting how awful it will be. (Yes, predicting...)

Anyone would think we were incapable of knowing right from wrong and desperately in need of Brussels to guide us, to make our laws, to impose trading tariffs, generally control us, tell us who we have to accept into the country and take BILLIONS from us for the privilege of that control.

Project Fear - we have recognised it.

We need to get on with leaving the EU, pronto, but Remainers delight in the delays, mostly caused by terrified EU officials worried about EU budgets and the UK forging ahead without it's stranglehold.

Optimism rules. Let's bin Project Fear. We see it for what it is.

Brexit negotiations, to date:

• Same regulations
• Same open borders
• Same European courts
• Same single market
• Same payments to EU

But:
• Lost all say in EU rules
• Squandered 1000s of jobs
• Knocked 18% off the pound
• Risking the Union
• Spent £50 billion

Quite a long podcast on tax justice.

Do you think that May and Philip will get caught out, then, whitewave?

durhamjen Sat 09-Dec-17 10:30:53

There is no longer just Nissan. It's in a group with Mitsubishi and Renault.
There has been no news about the Sunderland site on their site this year, Maizie.
It does make me wonder.

whitewave Sat 09-Dec-17 10:23:12

What ever May has or has not achieved, she has certainly set the Brexiters at each other’s throat.

whitewave Sat 09-Dec-17 10:21:03

Hey folks! One good thing is that the EU is insisting that we adhere to all EU law during the transition, which includes the Tax Avoidance Law!!

How good is that?

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 09-Dec-17 10:02:31

Yes, I think he's either being disingenuous or his comments are being taken out of context. The headlines give the impression that we will be able to vote before the deal is done. That's not what he's saying at all. I don't believe the decision to leave can be reversed or the deal changed during the transition period.

whitewave Sat 09-Dec-17 10:01:03

He has definately been on a charm offensive lately - love Uriah by the way, it is so apt.

The Japanese deal is major, and something we could have taken full advantage of.

MaizieD Sat 09-Dec-17 09:55:55

On another thread dj said something about Nissan moving to Europe. Can you elaborate, dj?

Welshwife Sat 09-Dec-17 09:39:16

I see today that the trade deal the EU has done with Japan is for free trade to the EU for Japanese cars and for free trade to Japan for EU dairy products.
How on earth will the UK hope to keep the car plants in the NE etc once this deal gets up and going? The plants were only ever built in UK to allow access to the EU.

durhamjen Sat 09-Dec-17 09:28:01

He's got his serious face on in the Guardian, so he must mean it. No raised eyebrows.

durhamjen Sat 09-Dec-17 09:21:38

The thought of Uriah being the next PM gives me the creeps.

GracesGranMK2 Sat 09-Dec-17 08:41:27

It does seem to be the case that Uriah is saying we can change things at the next election if we don't like them. I doubt he is really suggesting we can change them to staying in the EU.

So, on top of the incompetency, lack of economic knowledge we now add to the picture of the modern Tory the willingness to betray those who have put you in a position of power.

whitewave Sat 09-Dec-17 08:25:48

Oh yesgrin I know zero about guns. I will choose another metaphor next time.

MaizieD Sat 09-Dec-17 08:23:33

Er, when you spike a gun you make it unusable. Do you mean priming their guns (getting them ready to fire)?

whitewave Sat 09-Dec-17 07:31:30

Farage and Banks seem to be spiking their guns once again. I suppose the Fail will run with it and too much air time will once again be given to spout their personal peculiar form of bile and hatred.

whitewave Sat 09-Dec-17 07:25:10

Actually I’ve read further on twitter re Gove and I interpreted what he said entirely wrongly I think.

He seems to be saying that future governments are free to change Mays agreement with the EU! So his loon tendency is still up and running. What a shame I really thought he had become less mad for a short while.

whitewave Sat 09-Dec-17 07:15:01

Robert Peston reporting

Gove has said that if the voters feel that Brexit is a mistake, they can and should change their minds.

I get the feeling that even the arch-Brexiters are beginning to face up to reality.

durhamjen Fri 08-Dec-17 23:37:29

Is that going off topic? It's not project fear, is it, but I haven't seen anything like it from brexiteers.

durhamjen Fri 08-Dec-17 23:35:57

With Brexit, we will need more manufacturing in this country. This is perfect; one company like this in every county will provide lots of jobs, and increase our manufacturing capacity.
They might even give apprenticeships to pensioners!

durhamjen Fri 08-Dec-17 23:33:53

Up in Durham we have a business that recycles plastic and turns it into benches, picnic tables, fencing, steps, planters, etc.
I think they just use plastic milk containers.

www.marmax-products.uk/index.php?route=common/home

We need many more companies like this, and to reduce the amount we use.

Tegan2 Fri 08-Dec-17 23:06:46

I was reading that in the i today jen, and was horrified. Says a lot of our plastic will be burned or go into landfill as we don't have the means to recycle it, and Gove doesn't know what to do (no surprise there then). I was campaigning for things to be recycled years ago and feel as though I've stepped back in time....

durhamjen Fri 08-Dec-17 20:55:48

Two thirds of our waste is exported to China at the moment, jalima.
They are fed up of being the dustbin of the UK..

Jalima1108 Fri 08-Dec-17 20:53:06

Presumably China has enough plastic waste to turn into goods to sell back to us for the foreseeable future.

durhamjen Fri 08-Dec-17 20:49:54

Talking about the Far East, there's going to be a big problem with China.
Apparently we have exported 2.7 million tons of plastic waste for recycling since 2012.
They are going to stop taking it from early next year, saying it is too toxic. Michael Gove has not yet given the problem sufficient thought, he said.
