New thread.

jura2 Tue 19-Dec-17 21:33:21

problem is that currently, there are few coming from the EU and rest of the world to fill those vacancies (and perhaps too - and I have no proof of this- that quality and language criteria are likely to be dropped to make up for this.

durhamjen Tue 19-Dec-17 21:46:12

Nearly 8% vacancy rate isn't high enough for you, primrose?
And it would be higher if half of the staff didn't work overtime for free.

Acute nursing vacancies vary from 15.7% in South London to 8% in North East. Those figures were March 2016. They will be worse now Brexit is starting to be felt.

For those who aren't quite as complacent about the NHS, read this and then find out if your MP has signed the EDM on the link at the bottom of the article. If not, ask him/her to do so.

But are those rates particularly high? The turnover rate for an average UK company is 15% - people move, retire, fall pregnant etc. Every organisation has to deal with recruitment and vacancies.
Are the NHS rates higher than other EU countries?
I know it sounds a lot when people report 100,000 vacancies, but I'm just trying to ascertain if it's exceptional or quite normal.

For anybody who believes in the NHS the doctors are crowdfunding to have a judicial review against Hunt to stop the new reorganisation.
He is going to try to get it passed early in January using HenryV111 powers.

This is an interesting slide.
Theresa's red lines show what we will be left with.
She might have to scrub some of those red lines.

Before I post what I really want to post I will reiterate my post from yesterday which primrose in her own inimitable style tried to derail, as it is worth repeating.

Francis Grove White tweeted about the former MI6 chief, who told the foreign affairs select committee that the U.K. would suffer a loss of influence on a par with the 1970s

Sawyers says that we must turn this around but was unsure how this could be done.

Oh and a brexiter accused him of -guess what? Yes! Gloom and doom grin

Tegan2 Wed 20-Dec-17 09:10:46

Didn't I read that Stephen Hawking was suing Hunt [or was that false news?] also...I actually know someone who knows him, so I could ask. [Hawking, that is, not Hunt...]

whitewave Wed 20-Dec-17 09:18:06

Right this is the post I want to post

Yes tegan you are right about Hawking.

This is how the cabinet is split over Brexit

No derailment intended ww.

Stephen Hawking has lent his verbal support to a campaign for a judicial review. So not really suing the NHS. As a multi-millionaire author, he's not funding the campaign. Perhaps your friend could ask why someone with over £20 million and a good revenue stream from their books doesn't put a tiny fraction of their money behind things they say they support?

The WTO in which some of our more extreme politicians want to throw their lot, has totally failed to tackle the disaster of overfishing throughout the world.

Unlike the EU members who are very aware of the issue and continually keeping the various fish stocks under close monitor.

I see that the Economists has chosen France as the most improved country of the year.

petra Wed 20-Dec-17 14:17:56

Whitewave
I think the Mayors of
Lille
Bordeaux
Grenoble
Rennes
Toulouse
Strasbourg might disagree with that statement.
They have written an open letter to officials in Paris to:
save them from the social emergency of huge numbers of migrants

whitewave Wed 20-Dec-17 15:06:31

I am fascinated by the amount of times migrants/ immigrants are mentioned on any thread to do with Brexit, and yet if a brexiter is asked the reason for voting Brexit it is always denied that the reason was immigrants.

MamaCaz Wed 20-Dec-17 15:58:35

durhamjen: "Theresa's red lines show what we will be left with."

Ah, but have you noticed that the red line on the slide is not a solid red line but a broken one? That could turn out to be significantgrin

suzied Wed 20-Dec-17 16:19:58

Was speaking to someone who runs a large construction firm. They said they couldn't complete projects as they were short of skilled labour. They offered top wages but couldn't fill the vacancies, many of the European workers considered it not worth their while with the crashing £ and better prospects elsewhere. I don't know how the government thinks they are going to fulfil their promises re house building.

Welshwife Wed 20-Dec-17 16:29:10

WW do you know how the 'improvements* were measured and what they were measuring against? The facilities in Bordeaux have greatly improved over the last few years and it is a lovely city.
The immigrant question is probably caused by the policy of spreading the migrants across the country - which is not very popular with the migrants themselves - but a preferable solution for the folk of Calais and Dunkirk who are still bearing the brunt if it.

suzied Wed 20-Dec-17 16:57:48

This is hilarious!

durhamjen Wed 20-Dec-17 17:07:38

Primrose, how do you know that Hawking hasn't put any of his own money in, or any of the other signatories?
I have put money in myself as I wish to be connected with this court case.

durhamjen Wed 20-Dec-17 17:09:42

Maybe the broken line is to allow her to u-turn from one side to the other, MamaCaz.

whitewave Wed 20-Dec-17 18:47:59

ww I’ll have a look at the article and get back

jura2 Wed 20-Dec-17 19:15:14

Whatever your views, opinions, feelings, hopes or fears, about Brexit- do take time to listen to Prof Dougan of Liverpool Uni - probably the best expert on EU Law. Especially about the Irish 'solution':

whitewave Wed 20-Dec-17 19:47:38

ww I don’t think it is so interesting from your point of view because it is about French politics and how Macron has cut through the right and left and forced change which has been almost in previous decades.

Welshwife Wed 20-Dec-17 19:51:32

He is doing some good helpful things for the normal residents.

petra Wed 20-Dec-17 20:50:39

I was very pleased to read that the eu have backed down on 'one' of its issues with Poland, i.e. the poles want to conduct their judiciary the way they want to.
The eu have threatened this that and the other, but have now been told by eu law experts that there's nothing they can do.
