More Brexit lunacy

£490 million wasted spent on changing the colour of our passports. Which we could have done at any time in the last 30 years. Burgundy wasn't obligatory; not every EU country has a burgundy passport.

How many more £millions is this futile Brexit exercise going to cost the UK?

Somewhat ironic that the new blue is very similar to the colour of the EU flag...

Saying that they are undermining a democratic vote.

That is ... ... ... the women is mad. The people who should have produced it are the UK government but there is nothing to stop another government producing figures for themselves. The sense of entitlement to power of the Tories is mind blowing.

May could produce a similar report for the UK - we've all been waiting for it. It would, of course, be bound to set our minds at rest - not.

Said about Carillion.
"Ministers are ultimately responsible of course, but the lack of civil service expertise in dealing with private contractors has been raised repeatedly by some critics. Flawed defence projects, IT contracts, NHS and schools PFIs, all suggest the public sector has lacked the business and legal expertise to avoid getting trapped into deals on poor terms. Maybe that’s something Cabinet Secretary Sir Jeremy Heywood will want to address today when he makes a rare public appearance, before the Public Administration Select Committee at 3pm."

Could explain the Brexit mess.

I see Loathsome is trying to convince the P.O. to issue a Brexit stamp

Hope you've signed the petition against it.

I can only say that when the results of that vote came in I came near to tears. I thought this country has overcome many difficulties and trials over the years but this was the first time we have actually caused the disaster ourselves. I blamed the Daily Mail, people voting on single issues without researching the wider implications and general stupidity. There seemed to be a feeling that because we are an affluent country that we are bomb proof. The fact that this affluence has much to do with our membership of the EU appears to be ignored. When we revert once more to “the poor man of Europe” will these “Brexiteers” admit they have been well and truly “had” or will they find someone else to blame. Unfortunately, it is our children and grandchildren who will suffer while many voters will no longer be here to apologise.

Well said, Lovetopaint.

The Independent is reporting that the EU, as part of the trade negotiations are going to go after the UKs shady network of tax havens.

Good.

whitewave Tue 16-Jan-18 07:06:12

I note that Jersey has been entirely abandoned by EU agricultural workers.

The jersey potato industry is trying to keep its head above water until they can recruit workers from Africa or beyond.

Expect a shortage of Jersey potatoes this year.

That fool of a foreign secretary has told the guardian that the £350 million on the bus was too small, that in fact it will be much larger by Brexit.

Oh dear

I note that Jersey has been entirely abandoned by EU agricultural workers.

According to the little old DM readers on the Old People's Forum I visit whitewave, this will mean jobs for all the unemployed youngsters who are doing nothing, can't say their tables and spend too much time on the phones they shouldn't have in the first place shock

GracesGranMK2 Tue 16-Jan-18 08:08:25

That fool of a foreign secretary has told the guardian that the £350 million on the bus was too small, that in fact it will be much larger by Brexit.

Watching the reviews of the papers last night it appears, from what one of the reviewers said, that the scuttlebutt in the Whitehall village is that the rather strange man concerned (my words not theirs) has lost his chance of leading his party (off into the wilderness, I would hope) because he LIED! This seems to be an attempt to prove this particular, err, fabrication wasn't a lie.

Corbyn lost a no confidence vote 70-40 went back to his party that had been infiltrated by the extreme left and won the leadership vote once again. Corbyn attained 2 A levels at grade E so could not enter university. He then attended a polytechnic studying trades union affairs and left without completing the course. My point here is this. This man has neither the education or the intellect to be Prime Minister he would be ruled by the extremists in his party and do bidding at their behest. He has said (once again at the behest of the extremists) that he wants to go nuclear free meaning we would lose our seat in the security council and be at the mercy of those that do have nuclear weapons. Is this the Labour Party that you really want. Why oh why does he not think that the reason no state attacks us is because we have them.

gg we have the daffodil picking season before then. Wonder how they are managing in Scilly isles and cornwall?

I love the Scilly daffodils

whitewave Tue 16-Jan-18 10:07:37

Verhofstadt has tweeted that phase 1 is not yet completed shock

I guess it is to do with Ireland.

whitewave Tue 16-Jan-18 10:10:25

Maybot is starting Cabinet talks on trade negotiations on Wednesday - I can see two major issues there.

1. Phase 1 is as reported not yet complete

2. The cabinet is totally split about what they want.

Revoking Article 50 being discussed in HoC today.

GracesGranMK2 Tue 16-Jan-18 10:55:41

" went back to his party that had been infiltrated by the extreme left and won the leadership vote once again."

Isn't it interesting how one persons "members" are another's "infiltrators".

Wally, have you seen the Corbyn's Torque thread. I think it would be just your cup of tea.

MaizieD Tue 16-Jan-18 11:06:26

Just as a matter of interest, Wally:

(John) left school at the age of sixteen in 1959 with three O-levels in History, English Language and English Literature. He later gained three more O-levels by correspondence course, in the British Constitution, Mathematics and Economics.

I can't find that he did anything else in the academic line apparent from a correspondence course in banking

Rubbish Prime Minister?

MaizieD Tue 16-Jan-18 11:13:17

WRT nuclear weapons. Only nine states (out of how many in the whole world?) have nuclear weapons. I haven't noticed that the remaining states have been subjected to nuclear strikes at any time in the last 70 years. Why would we suddenly come under nuclear attack if we got rid of ours?

whitewave Tue 16-Jan-18 11:32:02

Heart warming to read that Brussels will be open for the UK to revoke A50 if at the end of negotiations we don’t like what we see.

Elegran Tue 16-Jan-18 12:02:33

I see that Nick Clegg has a book out called "How To Stop Brexit (And Make Britain Great Again) " Kindle edition is currently 99p on Amazon.

Wally Tue 16-Jan-18 19:40:27

whitewave. If at the end we do not leave the EU democracy will be dead in this country. Politicians don't have the trust of the British pubic, they will then have zero credibility and who knows were that can lead.
