£490 million wasted spent on changing the colour of our passports. Which we could have done at any time in the last 30 years. Burgundy wasn't obligatory; not every EU country has a burgundy passport.

How many more £millions is this futile Brexit exercise going to cost the UK?

Somewhat ironic that the new blue is very similar to the colour of the EU flag...

Expat Forum in France, Spain, Italy, Malta, Germany, Switzerland, and all over EU- have had 1000s of recent request for info on how to move and get a job- from young people, many with families- who say they just do not want to stay in a divided, backward looking and isolationist UK.

The only thing stopping many is the fact they knowledge of a foreign language is so poor or nil- making the move very limited to a niche job market- and impossible for most. Whereas EU people emigrating to the UK usually have a very good grasp of English and learn VERY fast.

308 Tories yesterday voted that we didn't need any fundamental rights. Hope your MP wasn't one of them.

"Insisting the priority would be to “preserve” the single market, he told a joint press conference: “The choice is on the British side, not my side.

“If you want access to the single market, including financial services, be my guest. But you need to contribute to the budget and acknowledge European jurisdiction.”

To enjoy the full fruits of the single market Britain would have to accept a Norway-style arrangement, which includes free movement of people, he said, adding: “Such are the rules.

“There will be no hypocrisy in this respect otherwise it will not work. It would destroy the single market and its coherence.” "

Well said, Macron.

Oh all is not well within the EU. They are not happy in Denmark.

We reject Juncker’s vision - Danish MEP blasts EU chief saying Denmark could follow Brexit

Anders Vistisen, of the Danish People's Party, said the Danish people found the pair’s proposals for the European Union “unappealing” and it could result in Dexit.

Speaking on the Today programme, on BBC Radio 4, Mr Vistisen warned EU chiefs that following a “federalist agenda” would force other member states down a Brexit path.

He said: “If you listen to the speeches of Jean-Claude Juncker's State of the Union and Mr Macron’s speech on the future of European cooperation, it doesn’t look like anything that the Danish public would find very appealing.

“We have also seen all the major parties in Denmark rejecting this future of a United States of Europe, from my own party to the Social Democrats and the liberal party."

Interesting.

Italian election: 'Slaves of the EU? No thanks!' Frontrunner BLASTS meddling Eurocrats

Oh lots of unrest in Italy too. The Italian election on March 4th should be interesting.

EU Economic Affairs commissioner Pierre Moscovici has been blasted for "interfering" in Italy's election with gloomy forecasts of political instability in the EU member state.

During a conference in Paris, Mr Moscovici said the uncertainty surrounding the future leadership of Italy was increasingly becoming a risk to the EU, especially because of the lack of proper political manifestos from any major parties.

He said: "The Italian vote is a political risk for the European Union. Italy is preparing for elections whose results are more than uncertain. What majority will the vote return? What programme and commitment to Europe? In a contest where the Italian economic situation is not the best on a European level, happy are those who can forecast the results."

Matteo Salvini – leader of The Northern League Party – blasted the eurocrat, saying Italy will once again regain its sovereignty after the March 4 vote.

Writing on Twitter, Mr Salvini said: "Slaves of the European Union? No, thanks! I can't wait for Italy, with our government, to regain its sovereignty to defend the national interest in any way possible. Unacceptable intrusion from a European bureaucrat in Italy's elections. The immigration policies and economic sacrifices imposed by the European Union have been a disaster and will be rejected by the free vote of Italians. European bureaucrats calm down."

Mr Salvini is expected to be the front runner of the newly announced pre-election coalition with Silvio Berlusconi’s party Forza Italia and centre-right party Fratelli d’Italia, in the upcoming general election on March 4.

There are two more member states uncertain about their EU futures. No wonder EU officials fear Brexit and are making it difficult for us. The floodgates might open once we leave.

I suppose we should not be surprised but Day6 you are quoting the right-wing populist of Denmark. What else would you expect them to say?

GracesGranMK2 Fri 19-Jan-18 07:30:34

No references to your quotes Day6. I am not about to guess where they came from but then, without the reference so I can make up my own mind about the sources, I am not about to take them seriously either.

whitewave Fri 19-Jan-18 08:02:23

day 6 I’m not sure that quoting fascistic leaders of far right parties really does your argument much good!

whitewave Fri 19-Jan-18 08:07:35

Try reading an article written by a leave voter - her name is Sheila Gates. She describes how she and undoubtedly others like her were rushed into voting leave, largely as a protest without giving the whole process due thought.

She very much regrets this unthought through decision realising the harm it is doing to the U.K. both economically and socially.

You’ll find her article in the New Statesman

An important lesson to be learned from the Telegraph’s Brexit stance.

Jonathan Lis writes

“The Telegraph destroyed and degraded its content, trashed its mainstream conservative brand, and at the same time haemorrhaged sales. Shit doesn’t always sell.
Brexiters be warned”

durhamjen Fri 19-Jan-18 08:37:56

Why does Berlusconi need a coalition with a party that has no seats in the Italian parliament?

whitewave Fri 19-Jan-18 08:42:40

Well they are all pretty much to the right I suppose. I’m sure Italian politics is jolly interesting and wouldn’t mind finding out more, but at the moment I don’t really even keep up with the U.K. !

whitewave Fri 19-Jan-18 08:43:54

Poll shows a big majority 60% think the U.K. should stay in the single market.

jura2 Fri 19-Jan-18 08:52:41

Yes, Forza Italia and Lega Nord are extreme right wing racist parties with even more right wing fascist wings- what else to you expect them to say?

durhamjen Fri 19-Jan-18 08:52:57

It's a bit like May saying she will go into a coalition with Ukip. Gets her not a single extra vote.
She didn't look very happy yesterday, did she?
Macron definitely looks more at ease.

durhamjen Fri 19-Jan-18 09:00:18

It's lucky for Day6 that there are a few on here who don't just accept her scare stories, and try and find out for themselves, isn't it?

whitewave Fri 19-Jan-18 09:35:00

You mean unlucky dj grin

whitewave Fri 19-Jan-18 09:36:43

Macron has told Maybot that the there will be no financial services without the single market.
Well that’s lucky as the will of the people are saying that we must stay in the single market.

durhamjen Fri 19-Jan-18 09:38:28

If anyone just accepted what she said, there would be panic in the country and the EU.
I love the idea of her supporting this wally.
Boris is now saying that we should build a bridge over the Channel, so that France and the UK could be more connected!

"Citigroup Inc. is planning to have its new broker-dealer in Frankfurt up and running by year-end in case the U.K. exits the European Union with no trade deal or transition agreement in place.

The firm is talking to German regulators about moving some of its European customers’ investment activities from London to Frankfurt in time for Britain’s departure in March 2019, Citibank Europe Plc head Zdenek Turek said in an interview. The bank plans to relocate around 150 roles to the new hub, many of which will be hired locally, according to a person with knowledge of the plan."
