It is not given to me to start a threads on politics, I don't believe I have ever contributed to one either.
However I cannot let pass the comment from a conservative councillor currently skiing in the USA who wants the homeless and rough sleepers cleared from the streets of
Windsor before the wedding in May.
God forbid that visitors here to see an obscene and ostentatious picture of wealth and privelage should be confronted by the "have nots" of our society.

Trump himself hasn't threatened the trade deal Re the wedding invite. It was mentioned in the new book about him.
Just durhamjen keeping busy with her wooden spoon.

WilmaKnickersfit Tue 09-Jan-18 22:29:58

paddyann did you have to mention that so close to bed time? Bleurgh! I will dream of US chicken! grin

WilmaKnickersfit Tue 09-Jan-18 22:25:23

There's protocol for this sort of thing, plus Trump has not even congratulated the couple, so why would he say something like that? Do you have a link jen?

paddyann Tue 09-Jan-18 22:19:59

good,no chlorine washed chicken then...we will be missing out ...

durhamjen Tue 09-Jan-18 22:17:48

Trump has said that if he isn't invited, we don't get our post-Brexit trade deal.

Anniebach Tue 09-Jan-18 21:45:38

That is so tragic Mostly, poor woman , hope her partner has support with their baby

WilmaKnickersfit Tue 09-Jan-18 21:36:32

Neither. Not diplomatically appropriate.

jura2 Tue 09-Jan-18 21:26:59

So Obama - or Trump ? or both?

mostlyharmless Tue 09-Jan-18 20:58:57

A vulnerable young woman my family know died (here in Gloucestershire). She had a three month old baby and a partner but had suffered from mental health problems and drug dependency for many years. She probably needed a lot more post natal support than she received.
The coroner's inquest didn't take place for six months or so after her death, plunging her partner into turmoil. Inquest verdict was "death by misadventure" - she drowned in the bath while under the influence of prescription drugs.
Tragic

This has been stopped in parts of Wales, a young woman ,domestic abuse, needing emergency accomodation was given a room in one of those B/B, she was murdered by an addict who also lived there. Victims of domestic violence should not be housed in these places

mostlyharmless Tue 09-Jan-18 20:33:18

Yes I thought that Jalima. There will be hundreds of people sleeping on the streets of Windsor (and the route from London) the night before the wedding. Bit difficult to keep undesirable homeless out but allow Royal fans to have their tents and sleeping bags.

I've tracked down a bit about the Gloucester B&B deaths and it seems that it is really run by a charity as a hostel for drug addicts, people with mental health problems, victims of domestic violence as well as the homeless.

Gloucestershire has been suffering from huge cuts in budgets for social care over the last few years and I don't doubt that these cuts will have made it difficult to provide adequate support for these vulnerable people.

Didn't people take sleeping bags and kip on the route of the Royal Wedding of Harry's parents?
London was in an exuberantly festive mood long before the evening celebrations, with hundreds of people staking out places along the parade route, some equipped with sleeping bags covered with the Union Jack,

Just saying ....

Conservative group on Windsor council are going to have a vote of no confidence in him. No wonder he's trying to justify what he said.

lemongrove Tue 09-Jan-18 18:13:46

Presumably this was leaked by somebody in the Windsor police, annoyed that he was telling them to ‘do their job’.
So many things are leaked, tweeted and generally bandied around ( and often twisted as well) that it’s hard to get at the actual truth.I think it’s worrying.
Is he trying to get out of what he actually said, or telling the truth? we would need to see the actual letter or email to know that.

Just heard on PM on radio 4 from the man who wrote to the police ( about the wedding) he says it was never about homeless people ( there are only a few, it’s not like Manchester) but about the people who come into Windsor to beg and then go home again at the end of the day.
Because of the wedding, there will be more tourists around with money ,therefore drawing in more beggars hoping for some of that money.

Anniebach Tue 09-Jan-18 14:55:57

So it seems Jalima , so it seems - to some

Jalima1108 Tue 09-Jan-18 13:57:19

Jen has not been rude to you
hmm

Anniebach Tue 09-Jan-18 13:45:36

No comment grin

Jaycee5 Tue 09-Jan-18 13:02:23

I agree Durhamjen.
Anniebach The topic is actually the Royal wedding and a Tory councillors attitude to the homeless. Jen has not been rude to you but your comments to her certainly were. You really cannot seriously consider your views on the homeless (or most things relating to poor people) to be left of centre. You are not very tolerant of people who have different views to yourself.

Anniebach Tue 09-Jan-18 08:57:39

Jen, do try to stop personal, attacks , we are discussing the hypocrisy of .Corbyn .

durhamjen Tue 09-Jan-18 08:45:51

But Corbyn isn't allowed to change his mind, or if he does he's called a hypocrite. So who's the hypocrite?

eazybee Tue 09-Jan-18 08:08:01

Yes, because they have the ability to acknowledge mistakes and admit they were misguided.

durhamjen Mon 08-Jan-18 22:22:43

Sadder and sadder, Annie.
Should we trust anyone who says Corbyn was an honest, caring man, then changes his/her mind a year later?

Anniebach Mon 08-Jan-18 22:19:24

Just proves how hypocritical he is and his word cannot be trusted, I trusted him and he betrayed me and many, many more members
