On the back of her stirring speech at the Golden Globes last night the press are speculating that Oprah Winfrey is considering standing for election in 2020. Knee jerk reaction is yay! Go girl! Second thoughts - should they rewrite the person spec for this job and make it essential that candidates have experience of political office? I like Oprah, she can speak for women and Black voters and grew up in humble circumstances. But could she cope with all the rest? And if she stood would the nasty side of politics come out once more - imagine a black women in the White House!! Such an interesting thought...

Why not Oprah for the White House. Her speech was far superior to any speech Trump has made since becoming President. She would be supported by her political team the same as any other leader.
However,I don't think she would want the job.She has achieved so much already

Good speech I thought.

She’d run as a Democrat I assume?

Oh no! If exclamations of "yay,go girl" come into it we'll have Beyonce standing too . The popular vote from an x factor audience would elect the Chuckle brothers, Couldn't do much worse than Trump though . Not a fan of Oprah. Or know it all Ellen DG.

not on the back of her speech which I heard described as the "greatest American speech ever" today on TV....who knew JFK and MLK would be knocked off their perch ..think "ask not what you're country can do for you" and "I have a dream" but she would I'm sure be very capable of being a good President ...well theres not an awful lot of competition around at the moment, though the racism and sexism stirred up during and after Trumps campaign might put paid to her on both counts she's a woman and she's black

I think its possible Oprah may well be the antithesis to Trump.

When I suggested the nasty side of politics coming out I meant against her. Not by her!

I'm sure she would be a much safer pair of hands than Donald Trump. I really don't care about the rest, I just want a safety world

Anyone would be better than Trump. But I found her yelling style intensely irritating.

I was completely startled by the "new dawn has come" bit in her speech. She came over all evangelical.

tickertape grin I agree with you.
