any thoughts?

MaizieD Wed 07-Feb-18 11:04:52

How do you get a serious discussion going on Gnet?

If I said Corbyn was fascist would everyone pile in?

jura2 Wed 07-Feb-18 11:02:53

Of course, not everyone Lemongrove, but if they fit the official description kindly posted by Maisie yesterday- then yes.

maryeliza54 Wed 07-Feb-18 10:54:50

Of course nothing will make any difference to your views GG and you are fully at liberty to express your views on here within the guidelines which includes not making personal attacks which you did.Didn’t HQ explain that to you when they emailed you about your posts being deleted?

GabriellaG Wed 07-Feb-18 10:48:40

???
Too silly for words.
Grannies thinking that reporting someone makes their own 'candle shine brighter', to quote a phrase another GNer used in another thread.
It makes no difference to me or my views.

MaizieD Wed 07-Feb-18 10:48:14

Sorry, eazybee ?

What 'inaccurate diatribes'? Can you quote some for me please?

maryeliza54 Wed 07-Feb-18 10:45:43

How would your parents have felt about GG’s inaccurate personal attacking diatribes eazy then? Not that I’m sure why your post brought your parents into it.

MaizieD Wed 07-Feb-18 10:45:05

I thought you mean that we are now living in a fascist state,

No, I don't think we are, yet, but there are indications that we could be if we're not careful.

And we could be with the consent 'of the people' if the real bile and hatred for anyone with opposing views that I see from time to time on social media (not particularly on here, though, we're pussycats) become a majority trend. One of the key facets of fascism is the silencing of opposition.

It's been simmering away there in the background for as long as I can remember but seems much more prominent now; especially as practised by people in public life who really ought to know better...

Jalima1108 Wed 07-Feb-18 10:38:54

My criterion for deciding is whether one had a nanny or whether one was the nanny.
Of course, that wouldn't apply these days as so many working mothers employ nannies.

maryeliza54 Wed 07-Feb-18 10:38:23

I agree with you Maizie - my understanding is that you are talking about fascist actions/behaviour which is not the same as saying someone is a fascist or that the country is fascist. Ninny at least Maizie saw the error of her ways, whereas GG just carried on regardless until reported

eazybee Wed 07-Feb-18 10:38:08

I think my parents (born 1905, 1909, northern working -class) would be utterly astounded at the inaccurate diatribes being presented, very incoherently, by Maizie D.

MaizieD Wed 07-Feb-18 10:36:55

Naah...worthy, but not toffish... grin

But disturbingly fascist....wink

Jalima1108 Wed 07-Feb-18 10:35:56

I thought you mean that we are now living in a fascist state, which is why I made a tongue-in-cheek remark in response.

Jalima1108 Wed 07-Feb-18 10:34:16

(Real toffs, Jalima, come from the aristocracy; JRM is only 'landed gentry' in origin...)
Sounds quite toffish to me.

MaizieD Wed 07-Feb-18 10:33:38

Can we discuss my point, please?

What makes people think that the examples I gave are not fascist or fascist in tendency?

ninny Wed 07-Feb-18 10:28:31

MaizieD I saw your post before you swiftly asked for it to be removed, pot black comes to mind.

lemongrove Wed 07-Feb-18 10:28:11

Is everybody to be labelled a fascist now?
Anybody who votes for UKIP or Conservatives? Apparently
Rees Mogg is one as well.Don’t let this get silly.

MaizieD Wed 07-Feb-18 10:27:48

Enemies of the People (our independent judiciary)
Crush the saboteurs (MPs legitimately voting in Parliament for what they believe to be in the best interests of the country)
Civil servants accused, (outrageously) of fiddling figures because they oppose Brexit (dear, sweet psuedo-toff JRM only last week)

So, those of you who don't think these actions are fascist, could you please explain what makes them reasonable and consistent with democracy?

(Real toffs, Jalima, come from the aristocracy; JRM is only 'landed gentry' in origin...)

MaizieD Wed 07-Feb-18 10:22:14

Gabriella is a ukipper. They are not known for understanding the concept of free speech.

It's a fascist characteristic, I understand, dj...
As is also this dislike of perceived foreigners...

maryeliza54 Wed 07-Feb-18 10:17:10

GNHQ acted quickly there then

jura2 Wed 07-Feb-18 09:58:34

Oh, I forgot- just to help your blood pressure- yes, we get free treatment here as part of the Reciprocal Agreements we have in UK- as we have no income here apart from our UK pensions that we paid for all our working lives - working for the NHS and the state education system. Thank you.
2nd knee replacement in 1 month's time (I do have to pay 10% and the first 300- so about 1000- which is great value thanks).

jura2 Wed 07-Feb-18 09:55:23

... and you say you don't need to denigrate others?

jura2 Wed 07-Feb-18 09:53:00

Gabriella, yes I do and so does OH, and we both voted firmly remain- we have been out of the UK for 9 years- so we have another 6 years of voting rights, thank you.

Your post saying that if I live out of UK, then it is none of my business- was totally wrong and out of order. We still have property there, and visit very often- and will probably be back when we are too old to travel, to be near our daughters, grandchildren family and friends.

Had a full pre op medical yesterday, BP is perfect, thanks.

But don't you dare tell me to 'shut up' - what do you think gives you the right to say so- ever. Tell me you disagree, and tell me why would be even better.

GabriellaG Wed 07-Feb-18 09:47:07

durhamjen

...and proud to be one. ?✌
I don't need to denigrate other people's choices.
Anything else you want to levy at me? Go ahead...make my day.
Silly females.

maryeliza54 Wed 07-Feb-18 09:43:19

Gabriella oh the irony, the irony

GabriellaG Wed 07-Feb-18 09:42:52

WW not WE.
