Continuity of previous thread.

It is interesting to know that the Tories have chosen the environment as one of the focuses in order to try and tackle the young vote.

This morning I read that this failing government (shades of Trumpgrin is refusing to sign up to the EUs plan to tackle plastic waste.

A prime example f this government shooting itself in the foot on a number of levels.

That's what Corbyn is doing.

MaizieD Mon 29-Jan-18 18:36:41

They wouldn't be mocking for long ww if we decided to go to WTO tariffs

You know that there is a big problem with this, don't you?

whitewave Mon 29-Jan-18 16:45:21

Yet more sleaze.

At least 6 ministers are being investigated for using tax payers money to fund Moggs ERG.

lemongrove Mon 29-Jan-18 16:39:25

It’s debatable, according to who you listen to.
I think that we will do a deal with the EU, but all the silly stuff by the media/blogs/dailies doesn’t help. They want to continue trading with us, we do with them but it’s true that they need our money, losing us as a source is a big blow to them.

Neither would we lemon a cliff edge would be the worse thing we could possibly do to ourselves

lemongrove Mon 29-Jan-18 16:28:20

They wouldn't be mocking for long ww if we decided to go to WTO tariffs and only paid the modest sum we actually owe! ?

She's obviously too busy to do anything about this. These poor kids have to look up at the skyscrapers of the City and Canary Wharf.

"Downing Street has responded to critics claiming that Theresa May has been too cautious as prime minister.

The PM's official spokesman said she was "grasping the many opportunities" of Brexit while also acting on housing, schools and the NHS. "

Haven't really noticed, have you?
On the other hand she couldn't respond herself so must be too busy - or hiding again.

whitewave Mon 29-Jan-18 16:09:17

Merkel and May also reported in International Business Times.

Do you need any more examples in order to be convinced lemon?

May is seen as so incompetent that world leaders feel free to mock her.

lemongrove Mon 29-Jan-18 16:02:10

Remember, this is a two way street ( Brexit) and the EU really want our money ( really want it) so although some in the 27 may huff and puff in the end it is Germany and France that will put pressure on, behind the scenes to get a deal.

lemongrove Mon 29-Jan-18 15:59:04

I wouldn’t be taken in by Peston on FB, or are you saying this is a ‘verbatim’ account ( very, very, hard to believe).

whitewave Mon 29-Jan-18 15:45:30

Has anyone read about Merkel poking fun at Mays expense?

This was on FB by Peston

Merkel gave a briefing to journalists

Merkel to May “what do you want the shape of the uks relationship with the EU to be?”

May to Merkel “make me an offer”

Merkel to May “but it is you who are leaving, we don’t make you an offer, it is for you to decide what you want”

May to Merkel “make me an offer”

Merkel then went on to describe how they were in this constant recurring loop.
The journalists were highly amused.

Not so funny for the U.K. because the truth is no one in government apart from the headbanger brextremists know what they want.

Lilley and Mitchel asking for 6k in euros for their “expertise””

Sleaze

whitewave Mon 29-Jan-18 15:06:48

Yes I read that - another incompetent. Cabinets full of them.

Another problem for her at home.

jura2 Mon 29-Jan-18 14:49:55

In short- none- and probably much worse to come, Mogg, Davies, BoJo, Gove combo sad sad

All those posts about what the UK wants are so UK centric- it is NOT the UK that will decide, and not Macron or Merkel- but all 27 - and they are in no mood for pick and mix consessions.

whitewave Mon 29-Jan-18 13:05:04

What chances of Maybot surviving?

MaizieD Mon 29-Jan-18 12:08:13

Corbyn, ww

I've always found it strange

Dave Alan tweeting about the transition deal

1. Transition, a quick thread.

There is no article 50 and 1/2 in the TEU dealing with transition.
There is no article hidden in the Treaties like Platform 9and 3/4.

2 so what would the legal basis be in the EU Treaties for a transition period - of the U.K. keeping the aquis, without, well, being an EU member?

3.the transition arrangement may be based on Article 50, even though there is no specific mention of “transition”
It must be in the agreement mentioned in Article 50 (2) and (3).

4.How long can such a withdrawal arrangement last? They cannot be indefinite or else they would be beyond the legal limit of Article 50.
So must be time limited.

5.The EU seems to think that Article 50 cannot bear the weight of transition beyond 18 months to 2 years.

If so that is a very hard legal limit.

6.But if the U.K. is thinking of a 5-6 year transition period, that will be outside the scope of Article 50.

7 so a long transition period may not be possible under Article 50

8 so it seems the only possibility would be to extend the Article 50 period, which as Dunt says would be politically difficult.

9 Mogg argues (rightly imo) that extending Article 50 will reduce the U.K. to a vassal state of the EU

10we have a crunch coming up that will be impossible to fudge.

Adonis tweeted advise to Maybot

“In this crises, this week, do not appease your Farageist hard right wingers. Your country needs pragmatism not ideology. We are desperately worried about our jobs and lives”

whitewave Mon 29-Jan-18 11:38:00

There are whispers that May will be gone by the end of the week. I am sceptical tbh.

whitewave Mon 29-Jan-18 11:36:57

Um? May? Or Corbyn?

MaizieD Mon 29-Jan-18 10:51:06

Perhaps I should as 'why'? as well...

MaizieD Mon 29-Jan-18 10:48:09

Just as a matter of interest. Who said this, when and where?

The people of Britain now face an historic choice on 23 June on whether to remain part of the European Union or to leave. We welcome the fact that it is now in the hands of the people of this country to decide that issue. The Labour party and the trade union movement are overwhelmingly for staying in because we believe that the European Union has brought investment, jobs and protection for workers, consumers and the environment, and we are convinced that a vote to remain is in the best interests of the people.

whitewave Mon 29-Jan-18 09:28:16

May under count down with a potential vote of no confidence being threatened.

“Clarify your Brexit stance” scream the brextremists who see recent announcements as a softening.

Just imagine in the middle of the most difficult, some would say impossible negotiations Britain has ever undertaken the Tories decide to throw their energies into a leadership contest?

Their mantra should be

Tories first! Tories first sod the country.
