So she's now saying that brexit is all about 'people'. Well, what about the people of Gibraltar and Ireland?

It is interesting to know that the Tories have chosen the environment as one of the focuses in order to try and tackle the young vote.
This morning I read that this failing government (shades of Trump
is refusing to sign up to the EUs plan to tackle plastic waste.
A prime example f this government shooting itself in the foot on a number of levels.
So she's now saying that brexit is all about 'people'. Well, what about the people of Gibraltar and Ireland?
But what do you think dj instead of regurgitating the words of a journalist/blogger.?
I thought the speech wasn’t bad at all and filled in a lot of info that had been missing up to now.
Looks like the Conservatives MP’s are all ok with it too, and there hasn’t been any thunder or lightning from Brussels as yet either.
"Why did May even bother giving her speech, one might ask? Because she’s an expert in dithering, buying time and kicking the can.
She knows she will eventually have to give ground. Just as she did when she agreed a £39bn divorce payment despite saying vast payments to the EU would end. Just as she is doing in her talks to get the EU to agree a transition deal that would turn us into a vassal state for years, despite saying she would take back control of our laws immediately.
The prime minister is a serial flip-flopper. She can’t be trusted to stick to anything she promises. But dithering and delay suit her fine. She stops the Tory party tearing itself to shreds and hangs onto power herself. In fact, she achieves everything except advancing the national interest.
One of May’s five tests for a Brexit deal is that it should bring the country together. She may yet achieve that. We will all be able to agree it’s rotten."

The nationalism espoused by Rees-Mogg, Farage, Johnson and the rest is described by Einstein as
“An infantile sickness. It is the measles of the human race”

How is this justified?
Yes, I saw that, and Cameron congratulating the pair of them.
Just been reading this, as well.

Did anyone know that was going to happen?
Anyone seen the cocky little ex-chancellor congratulating himself on the success of austerity?
Jo Maugham QC
“The way you did it, dumping on the poor a burden created by the wealthy, destroyed trust in politics and the establishment and created the conditions for Brexit.
So how about a little humility?”
Rees-Mogg is still at it. This latest claim from someone who is keen to abolish tariffs is threatening tariffs on Ireland. Do that you idiot and you’d have to apply tariffs to other countries. WTO rules don’t you know.
Another lie I assume unless he’s that daft who knows? Who cares?

Why on earth would a government ever investigate the press which not only supports, but controls that government?
You would not expect the Chinese government or the Russian government or any other totalitarian government to do it. Would you?
David Miliband said.
JM and TB know of what they speak. Brexit is neither a game nor a slogan: it’s a decision with real world consequences of an utterly inevitable and destructive nature. The problems are inherent in the ambition”
It's bad isn't it. Honesty seems to be a currency not a morality when you see this sort of decision.
Leveson advised the government that the public expect the Leveson enquiry to reach a conclusion. This government prefer to brown nose the MSM

They will not be able to stop FOI requests, though.

Tony Blair wishes he had never set that up, which shows how useful it is to normal people.
Anyone seen the video doing the rounds or trending in modern parlance
of may describing the Irish border? She gave this speech just before the referendum, and describes it very well indeed.
It shows that the tiny minority of hard right are running the Tory party.
A bit more on the Levison turn around. Mr Hancock explained the decision to the house. Apparently it was in their manifesto. I have to admit it wasn't highest on my priority list re voting so I missed it.
Tom Watson replied in parliament saying
There is more to be gained politically, by our political parties, from standing up to the tabloid media than bowing down to it. When every Conservative MP, who was then in Parliament backed this policy, including the current Prime Minister and the present Secretary of State, they didn't really mean it. They were waiting for the wind to change, waiting for the fuss to die down, waiting for a time when they could, as quietly as possible, break their promises.
Wonder what Dacre, Murdoch and Barclays have promised this government promised they will do?
This is just plain wrong! Levison was one of the lights that shone on everything that is corrupt about the media. It has just been extinguished.
So cancelling Levison 2.
I say corruption pure and simple
May mentioned Skwawkbox in that speech. She must be worried.
The government has announced it is not going to press ahead with the second part of the Levison enquiry into Press Standards and regulation. Matthew Hancock has told the HoC "There will be no Part 2 of Levison"
Interesting theory being proposed on twitter.
David Allen Green
The EU produces papers and drafts.
The UK produces newspaper articles and speeches.
The EU is using process, the UK is using publicity.
This is why the EU has the advantage in the Brexit negotiations.
Benjamin Wolf
Replying to @davidallengreen
You could argue that both sides get what they want. The EU, concrete legal commitments. The British government, PR wins at home.
That this is not supposed go that way is another issue.

Joint agreement been put into legal language. What on earth is the matter with this government ?
The fact that Brexiters are attacking Major and not his arguments shows that the Brexit argument is lost.
His speech was something the Tories have forgotten how to do. A proper analytical, political statesman and devastating speech.
So Nadine Norris feels able to call a previous Tory prime minister a traitor.
Brexit is destroying the Tory party
Rees-Mogg lies about a number of things - like the poor will be better off after Brexit
- not quite sure how he is reconciling it with his professed Christianity. Perhaps he was born without a conscience.
