I expect this is going to divide opinion, but what's your take on the Men Only charity event that's all over the news. However, for those not familiar, a bevy of young women, many of them students, were recruited through an agency for this event, they had to be slim and good looking they were told to wear sexy shoes and black underwear to go under the very skimpy dresses provided. They also had to sign a five page disclaimer, which they didn't get to read and weren't given a copy of. A couple of female undercover FT journalists were also amoung these young women and testified to appalling behaviour by SOME of the male guests. To give a flavour of the offers guests were asked to bid for "Plastic surgery to spice up the Mrs" hmm Jess Phillips gave a very good speech in Parliament imo saying these young women who were expected to act as hostesses "were merely bait" Personally I find it sickening that the guise of charity is used as a way to negate the bad behaviour in this sort of evening. I believe some of the high profile charities such as GOSH have told the now defunct Presidents' Club, where to stick their money.

If he reached the table with it then surely not very small.

I wonder why he hasn't been arrested for indecent exposure, plenty of witnesses surely

MissAdventure Tue 30-Jan-18 21:21:12

I should imagine the other mens eyes were elsewhere. I think I would have stabbed it with a fork if I'd noticed it! Ugh! Old, dirty men..

Anniebach Tue 30-Jan-18 21:26:53

But there were a large number of girls there , must have witnesses

MissAdventure Tue 30-Jan-18 21:28:37

Who knows, Annie? Its hard to know what on earth went on there. None of it sounds very appetising.

Anniebach Tue 30-Jan-18 21:34:34

We only know what the reporter said , so it must all be true ?

gillybob Tue 30-Jan-18 21:40:15

Perhaps it was a fake penis.

Anniebach Tue 30-Jan-18 21:40:58

Another thought, is it not possibly for some of the girls or the reporter to take out a private prosecution ? This would benefit women more than not selling one authors books

Anniebach Tue 30-Jan-18 21:41:38

Perhaps gilly ?

gillybob Tue 30-Jan-18 21:47:44

I will have to have a huge bonfire to get rid of my DGC’s David Williams box set together with my favourite Gino d’Campo recipe books as I believe he was also one of the guests.

Anniebach Tue 30-Jan-18 22:24:00

You can't keep them in your house gilly, you can't give them to a charity shop, they would have to close down. Good that you don't live in Wales, a bonfire be impossible all this rain. ?

MissAdventure Tue 30-Jan-18 22:32:08

Is there a guest list anywhere? No doubt i'll be called sad, but I'm interested to see who was there. Then I can clutch my pearls whilst reading it.

durhamjen Tue 30-Jan-18 23:03:45

Quite a few people have been named, MissAdventure, so you can't have been that interested, or you would have known.

MissAdventure Tue 30-Jan-18 23:07:12

My interest only just got piqued, Jen. I blame the mention of Gino De Campo for that.

hmm perhaps MissA doesn't scour the tabloids
Neither do I so I don't know apart from what I've read on here and heard a bit on the tv news, the two politicians and David Walliams and someone called Cary of the plastic surgery fame.

MissAdventure Tue 30-Jan-18 23:12:15

I didn't specify how interested I'd be. I'll produce a graph next time to demonstrate.

Jalima1108 Tue 30-Jan-18 23:12:20

You have to pay to access the link djen

Marilyn Monroe? confused

MissAdventure Tue 30-Jan-18 23:16:13

360 members there, apparently. 33 years running, David Mellor has resigned due to the scandal. Just read that from "the sun" wink

Jalima1108 Tue 30-Jan-18 23:20:08

I think it is David Meller, not to be confused with David Mellor (subject of a scandal years ago if I remember).

MissAdventure Tue 30-Jan-18 23:21:14

See, fake news! Ah yes. Meller, that's the one.

durhamjen Tue 30-Jan-18 23:41:29

There's a list in the Guardian.
Some of you just want to be spoonfed, then call it fake news.
MissAdventure obviously looks at the s*n.

MissAdventure Tue 30-Jan-18 23:43:23

Are you psychic, Jen? That's amazing! I won't be responding to anything else you say, so knock yourself out. Go for it.

I don't need to be psychic.
Jalima said you don't scour the tabloids. I was just being helpful to her.
Not quite sure what the rest of your post means, so I'll just not be so helpful in future.
By the way, if you do your own search you can get the full list from Financial News, Jalima, without paying.

durhamjen Tue 30-Jan-18 23:51:20

It even gives you the table numbers so you can see who was sitting with whom, while you are drinking your coffee.

anniebach Previously on this thread you, and others, were saying that women should be able to take up whatever employment they wished without being judged. Now you say "... such a pity some do not have respect for their own bodies".

My own view is that women should be able to take up employment without it being assumed that in doing so they are accepting that men have paid for the right to verbally, physically or sexually abuse them.

As for the notion that "this sort of male behaviour has always been around and always will be", I disagree. At one time women had no right to access to their children if they divorced, no right to work after marriage, no right to obtain a mortgage in their sole name, no right to refuse sex within marriage, no right to equal pay and treatment within the workforce, etc. etc. etc. It is only because women (and some men) challenged this that things changed- but there is still much that needs to be done.
