I expect this is going to divide opinion, but what's your take on the Men Only charity event that's all over the news. However, for those not familiar, a bevy of young women, many of them students, were recruited through an agency for this event, they had to be slim and good looking they were told to wear sexy shoes and black underwear to go under the very skimpy dresses provided. They also had to sign a five page disclaimer, which they didn't get to read and weren't given a copy of. A couple of female undercover FT journalists were also amoung these young women and testified to appalling behaviour by SOME of the male guests. To give a flavour of the offers guests were asked to bid for "Plastic surgery to spice up the Mrs" hmm Jess Phillips gave a very good speech in Parliament imo saying these young women who were expected to act as hostesses "were merely bait" Personally I find it sickening that the guise of charity is used as a way to negate the bad behaviour in this sort of evening. I believe some of the high profile charities such as GOSH have told the now defunct Presidents' Club, where to stick their money.

I don't think its for anyone at all ever, to tell others what they "should" aspire to. That's too arrogant for words.

Which son of Ecclstone dj, Deborah, Tamara or Petra?

gillybob Thu 01-Feb-18 10:50:48

Oh and Bev Turner who had so much to say about the grid girls used to be a glamour model herself . She regularly worked for FHM and Elite Premier modelling . Hupocrital or what ?

Oops that to durhamjen.

gillybob Thu 01-Feb-18 10:51:23

Hypocritical !!

MissAdventure Thu 01-Feb-18 10:52:44

I expect she saw the error of her ways and wants to help other misguided, intelligent, free thinking women to see things as she does.

Anniebach Thu 01-Feb-18 10:53:12

My mistake dj

gillybob Thu 01-Feb-18 10:58:51

Exactly Misadventure .

Bridgeit Thu 01-Feb-18 11:29:12

On the surface of things it just looks like 2 equations ie
Wealthy men at men’s only do + lovely girls in skimpy clothes = I’m rich I’m powerful I’m donating lots of money & I am entitled to manhandle what I have paid for
2nd equation:I’m a beautiful young woman , I can, earn good money because I look good & can serve at table, I can also allow silly old munters to ogle & or touch me .
But there is a third part, which is that it’s a charity do & it’s raising money for children’s charities .The equation no longer balances out because the first two parts do not fit in with the 3rd factor!

Anniebach Thu 01-Feb-18 12:01:09

Why do they not fit in with charities? Surely everyone who gives to charity does not live the lives of Saints. Should morals of blood donors be questioned ? If you needed a blood transfusion would you refuse blood from a man for fear he had pinched a woman's bum? Do the homeless give a damn if money given to them is from a bottom pincher or someone who doesn't care if their bottom is pinched and as for food banks , should all who give do so on oath they are neither of 1 or 2?

gillybob Thu 01-Feb-18 12:27:46

The very essence of "charity" is to give to those in need.

How can we expect anyone in desperate need to give a second thought to where or even how the money was raised?

Anniebach Thu 01-Feb-18 12:48:31

Wonder how many here would care where GHSH got money from if they had a very sick child a patient there , I wouldn't care if it was financed by a bank robbery

Bridgeit Thu 01-Feb-18 13:23:00

Actually Anniebach, I have a collection box for Gosh, because a family member is treated there.

gillybob Thu 01-Feb-18 13:23:59

Me neither Anniebach. Personally I think it was very wrong of them to give the money back. It wasn't theirs to give back, it belonged to all of the poor children the CHARITY was set up to help, not some holier than thou pen pusher/fundraiser (who's probably on 100k a year themselves).

gillybob Thu 01-Feb-18 13:24:47

I would like to know if any of the GOSH charity fundraisers were at the event? My guess is yes (but they will keep it very quiet).

Bridgeit Thu 01-Feb-18 13:38:59

The behaviour of the fundraisers put Gosh & other beneficiaries in a catch twenty two position, so it is they that have put these charities in this situation. Perhaps you would agree with the same type of fund raising direcly outside the hospital with both the fundraiser & the beneficiary taking half each. perhaps skimpy nurses out fits .?

gillybob Thu 01-Feb-18 13:44:34

To be honest Bridgeit I find it almost impossible to believe that this event is a one off and imagine others very similar. I also can't believe that GOSH (or other beneficiaries for that matter) didn't know how the money was raised and what "went on" at these all male bashes. I would also imagine that they would have representatives there anyway.

Lots of imaginings ....

Anniebach Thu 01-Feb-18 13:44:38

I disagree, hysteria by feminists who it seems lives blameless lives have caused the money to be returned

Anniebach Thu 01-Feb-18 13:46:24

So naive and wears this ?

Bridgeit Thu 01-Feb-18 13:50:59

I don’t think feminists are alone in disagreeing with the behaviour of these men, presumably the tickets were bought & paid for long before the event. Feminists certainly don’t have the monopoly on advocating a modicum of good behaviour to be expected by these prominent individuals at a charity do where they knew full well which charities would be benefiting, it’s just indulgent, lazy think on the part of some men

Anniebach Thu 01-Feb-18 13:57:23

So it depends on which charities would benefit ?

And many women and men seeing that black dress would think differently

Bridgeit Thu 01-Feb-18 14:06:29

I’m sorry Annibach I don’t understand your last post, but it does seem you don’t like to consider another point of view, but do like point scoring .

Bridgeit Thu 01-Feb-18 14:08:32

It could have been a fundraising event for cross dressers , trans, prostitution anything you care to name, but it wasn’t was it.

gillybob Thu 01-Feb-18 14:17:53

presumably the tickets were bought & paid for long before the event

Yes Bridgeit but lets not forget this event has been going on for over 30 years. Probably attracting the same men (and women) over and over again.

Bridgeit Thu 01-Feb-18 14:20:13

It’s seems it’s the first time that undercover filming took place, I’m don’t think I know what your point is Gillybob?

MissAdventure Thu 01-Feb-18 14:23:32

It was said by one of the hostesses who had worked at the event a few times, that this years event was frightening and unpleasant compared to previous times.
That could very well be the case, I think?
