scam phone calls

Just been listening on the news about this scam claiming to be from HMRC. My disabled husband rarely answers the phone, but picked this up one day to be told he was about to be prosecuted for unpaid tax. I reassured him it was a scam ( as I deal with all our finances he was unsure!)
I've had the same call a few times, asking me to call back to speak to my case inspector, and I reported it to fraud line.
What really infuriated me this morning, was to hear that this is specifically targeting over 65s.
I expect most people are aware of this, but thought it worth another mention, as for these despicable fraudsters, any publicity is bad publicity.

Thanks for the warning, Allule.
We don't answer the phone any more, we let it go to answerphone and listen to the messages.
If you are going to call someone back, never use the number they provide, verify it first or use an alternative one.
Always listen for dial tone before making a call in case they are still on the line.
If possible, call from a different phone.
