Hopefully this will be about politics and news only ,with no personal remarks or attempts to stifle.

Jon Lansman is more dangerous than Corbyn, at least at the moment.

He didn't say that at all. You only think you heard that because that's what the MSM wanted you to think.

GracesGranMK2 Thu 01-Mar-18 19:37:28

That is interesting bmacca. Are we allowed to know what the questions are?

I think this may help where a lot of people have previously felt ignored.

That sounds as if it may. I think, similarly, taking things back to council level where possible makes people feel more involved.

Wally Thu 01-Mar-18 19:23:15

Jeremy Corbyn said.

We will cancel all student debt as soon as we get into power. ( He was actually daft enough to say this on television and I heard him).

MacDonnell said. It's only an aspiration

Wally Thu 01-Mar-18 19:17:41

Jeremy Corbyn said.

The people of Venezuela have shown us another way.

bmacca Thu 01-Mar-18 19:12:07

I'm not Lansman's greatest fan but I do agree with his efforts to get members involved and their views heard. I think this may help where a lot of people have previously felt ignored. Momentum are currently asking members to vote on 15 questions, covering 11 unique proposals, formed from contributions by Momentum’s National Coordinating Group (NCG), the Members’ Council, individual members on My Momentum, and allied groups such as the Campaign for Labour Party Democracy (CLPD). All proposals that get over 50% support will become Momentum’s campaigning position and will be submitted to Labour's Democracy Review

durhamjen Thu 01-Mar-18 19:11:27

It's about Corbyn. Did you not notice?

Wally Thu 01-Mar-18 19:06:48

With respect whitewave what's that got to do with anything.

whitewave Thu 01-Mar-18 18:16:56

Jeremy Corbyn said

“Wishing Purim Sameach to all Jewish people both in the U.K. and around the world who are giving thanks for and celebrating the triumph of the Jewish people over oppression”

Jalima1108 Thu 01-Mar-18 18:16:14

I think attempts are being made to divert this thread away from the nightmare that Corbyn would be if he ever gained power in this country.
Wally we would get an extra bank holiday! every cloud and all that.

whitewave Thu 01-Mar-18 18:12:39

I actually don’t mind if a thread meanders, it often proves quite interesting. However, I shall keep to the momentum/Corbyn thread as there is so much of interest in the subject, and lots to discuss.

LaraGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 01-Mar-18 17:55:29

Surprise! It's the GNHQ broken record here. It's the 'please keep it civil' comment we like to post liberally (no pun intended) on most political threads.

Also, threads do sometimes meander. As long as it's not a deliberate derailment we don't mind. And a reminder that it's an open forum - anyone's free to comment on any thread.

As you were. grin

whitewave Thu 01-Mar-18 17:55:25

Do you like the quote lemon?

GracesGranMK2 Thu 01-Mar-18 17:55:12

Thanks whitewave. I think there was a Radio 4 programme about him. In each generation there are just a few people who do, or imagine, so much.

whitewave Thu 01-Mar-18 17:50:01

gg yes. He supported the French Revolution, and wrote about it and as an aside was a supporter of a minimum wage.

lemongrove Thu 01-Mar-18 17:44:05

Maybe that particular Momentum supporter likes quotes by Thomas Paine more than Marx.

GracesGranMK2 Thu 01-Mar-18 17:42:00

Didn't Thomas Paine have some involvement in the French revolution? I ought to know but I'm afraid I don't.

whitewave Thu 01-Mar-18 17:37:53

Of course, not sure of your point lemon

Good quote though wasn’t it? It shows that Thomas Paine a founding father of America and used extensively by this tweeter is a greater influence than Marx whom so many like to suggest is the main influence of Momentum and Corbyn supporters To date I have seen not a single quote from Marx.

lemongrove Thu 01-Mar-18 17:29:09

Am glad we can agree what the Momentum agenda is Grandad but you are happy with the prospect and I am not.Nothing wrong with posters disagreeing though.

lemongrove Thu 01-Mar-18 17:27:06

The credit for the quote belongs to Thomas Paine, surely?

whitewave Thu 01-Mar-18 17:20:03

grandad I can’t take the credit - it was from a Corbyn and Momentum supporter, but so apt.

Grandad1943 Thu 01-Mar-18 17:11:25

Whitewave 16:57 Great tweet there, should be repeated time and time again untill it becomes reality.
Thanks for sharing Whitewave

GracesGranMK2 Thu 01-Mar-18 17:11:01

I also agree. Your Thomas Paine quote is the sort of reason the Labour Party came into existence I would have thought and the reason why Momentum would want to put their energies into getting Labour into government. If Jeremy Corbyn is their elected leader at this time he would be in No 10. It just doesn't seem an unreasonable ambition for a party to have to me.

If we don't like what they stand for - which is a very different argument - we don't have to vote for them and, indeed, can work for another party.

whitewave Thu 01-Mar-18 17:09:26

That’s exactly what I thought dj

He’s invited everyone who thinks they qualify to have a shot as well. I think what he is trying to do is to open the position to be decided by labour members in a more democratic manner.

Bridgeit Thu 01-Mar-18 17:08:49

I think Wally said he does not want to get rid of nuclear weapons or did I read it wrong. .?
I think it would be a big mistake to get rid of them ,even though I abhor the fact that we do .(need them)
