Hopefully this will be about politics and news only ,with no personal remarks or attempts to stifle.

Jon Lansman is more dangerous than Corbyn, at least at the moment.

durhamjen Thu 01-Mar-18 17:04:54

I see no problem with Lansman standing. It gives the members a choice.
Can't see him getting in, though, particularly when his statement says more women are needed in top positions, and he is standing against a woman.

Tom London

“Charles Dickens would marvel at the wealth of the U.K. in 2018.

He would damn our callous, cruel, greedy society that cuts people out and leaves them out into the cold

Something need some to change”

whitewave Thu 01-Mar-18 16:58:47

jane absolutely no problem whatsoever , no harm in repeating

whitewave Thu 01-Mar-18 16:57:22

Quote from Thomas Paine put onto twitter by a Corbyn supporter, in response to momentum’s advise on helping the homeless.

“When it shall be said in any country that my poor are happy; neither ignorance nor distress be found among them; my streets are empty of beggars; the aged are not in want: when these things can be said, then may that country boast.”

I agree, Grandad.
In fact, they have not broken any democratic rules or laws in this country, have they?

Obviously Momentum would wish to assist in getting Jeremy Corbyn installed as Prime Minister and the Labour party into government.

Momentum are part of the wider Labour movement structure and have been elected to substantial constitutional positions within the Labour party structure. The election of a Labour Government would increase greatly their influence on political events in Britain.

The above is their ambition and reason for their existence. In that, everything they have achieved so far has been carried out within the democratic constitution of the Labour movement.

So, nothing wrong with that I feel in any way.

Wally, I want us to get rid of nuclear weapons, too.
In that I definitely agree with Corbyn.
CND still exists, you know.
How many countries do not have nuclear weapons and have not been attacked?

janeainsworth Thu 01-Mar-18 16:52:43

Oh sorry ww. Not read the whole thread blush

Primrose65 Thu 01-Mar-18 16:52:31

I'm not at all surprised. I posted a couple of days ago (on a different thread, I think) that he would stand, so it's what I expected. Thanks for the link Jane.

whitewave Thu 01-Mar-18 16:51:53

jane yes I posted that up thread, I also pòsted a statement from Lansman which you might find interesting.

janeainsworth Thu 01-Mar-18 16:48:16

Any thoughts on this? Anyone?

Bridgeit Thu 01-Mar-18 16:47:45

I am referring to OP request, but sad to say I have also done what she asked us not to do., thats what I meant it seems inevitable that it drifts of topic .

Bridgeit Thu 01-Mar-18 16:44:20

Or I should say when it becomes more about us as posters than the post, but I guess this is the nature of the beast and a fascinating insite into human behaviour

Bridgeit Thu 01-Mar-18 16:42:34

I personally do not care what anyone discuss on any thread, I like the way it meanders, but I do care when people get insulted .

durhamjen Thu 01-Mar-18 16:39:01

So what's wrong with talking about rough sleepers when it's to do with Momentum?

Bridgeit Thu 01-Mar-18 16:36:16

Thanks Lemongrove for your OP, very interesting comments & interesting to see that a thread does naturally diversify as we meander our way through various opinions ( re last post).Reading through I think there were only one or two personal comments which is pretty good for a 27 page topic?

Primrose65 Thu 01-Mar-18 16:35:38

You're quite right Wally. I just ignore it or find a way to convert the waffle onto topic. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter - we just start another thread. Some posters are really good at making up creative names for the next thread, it's become a bit of a 'thing'. grin

Wally Thu 01-Mar-18 16:33:00

I think attempts are being made to divert this thread away from the nightmare that Corbyn would be if he ever gained power in this country.

Primrose65 Thu 01-Mar-18 16:32:44

Momentum handing out advice about rough sleepers?

That's interesting.

Did it say

"The owner of Momentum had an interest in a property company which advised the sale of a homeless hostel in Victoria, London, for redevelopment for £22.5 million. Westminster housing officials said the hostel had “considerable success in working with rough sleepers” and its closure “resulted in a gap in service provision with the loss of 170 beds." This property company uses a complex structure including offshore companies in tax havens like Luxembourg. Don't forget to vote Labour. We need to get rid of the elitist neoliberal Tories and their tax avoiding fat cats, as we have plenty of our own elitist, Marxist, tax avoiding fat cats who want power." ?

durhamjen Thu 01-Mar-18 16:32:35

Real feel going down to -13, with up to 30 mile an hour winds.
I'm with you, trisher.

Wally Thu 01-Mar-18 16:28:07

I have the greatest sympathy with people who have to sleep rough but this is the wrong thread.

trisher Thu 01-Mar-18 16:26:51

OMG NOooo I can't even imagine what it would be like. The wind is horrible, windchill must be really high. They have my admiration and will donate, but sleep out tonight. No thank you.

durhamjen Thu 01-Mar-18 16:23:37

The people doing the sleepouts tonight are CEOs.
It's good to know they care, even if others do not, GracesGran.

GracesGranMK2 Thu 01-Mar-18 16:14:25

Its horrifying even to think about it in this weather Jen. You would think it would be a high priority as the numbers have risen for the last seven years and that's with the week statistics we have available.

Wally Thu 01-Mar-18 16:07:58

Just a thought. Corbyn has stated that he wants to get rid of Nuclear weapons. These are the weapons that have kept this country safe for many, many years. No one in their right minds would attack this country because we have them. Also our influence around the world would be greatly reduced as we would almost certainly lose our seat on the security council.
