Simple title so should be easy to update everyone with any bits of knowledge we gain.

whereas anyone who says they voted for Blair once but never again is seen as a pariah, particularly by those who say they wouldn't vote for labour ever.

I hadn't noticed that but then I don't read every post (or every thread).
Who says that those who voted for Blair once is a pariah? Do you mean those who think that Blair was more tory than labour?

I'm a bit confused

durhamjen Sun 18-Mar-18 13:17:56

Except, of course when we have already given information on our backgrounds.

I've always found it weird that Annie gets approval for saying that she has voted for Blair every time and for Corbyn once but wouldn't again, whereas anyone who says they voted for Blair once but never again is seen as a pariah, particularly by those who say they wouldn't vote for labour ever.

Humans have a inate instinct to fit in, so every time we go against the collective opinion we put our selves in the fireing line. Thick skins are need to protect our egos, so we either become very domineering & singleminded refusing to see another point of view, or we don’t put our heads above the parapet. Being on an relatively anonymous site such as this allows all us to give our opinion within a relatively safe environment, without exposing our true identities or backgrounds.Therfore protecting our egos, ethos & circumstances from further judgements & assumptions.

Some even say they find political threads tedious, while still posting on them.

Personally speaking, I don't find the political threads per se tedious; just some of the postings.

Primrose65 Sun 18-Mar-18 12:02:01

For me, every piece of personal information I've disclosed has been used in an ad hominem attack. Why would I disclose anything else?
Perhaps ask the people who do it why they act that way.

durhamjen Sun 18-Mar-18 12:01:40

There are quite a few libdem voters who post on political threads and do not get ignored.
I don't know any far left supporters.

Anniebach Sun 18-Mar-18 12:00:09

Well said Chewbacca

durhamjen Sun 18-Mar-18 11:59:48

I also find it strange how many people on the political threads have told others not to go on political threads.
Some even say they find political threads tedious, while still posting on them.

Anniebach Sun 18-Mar-18 11:58:45

Because anyone who said they were a Tory voter would get slaughtered by the far left here. I am a Labour Party member but have no problem with Tory supporters , they like me vote for a party they think will be right for the country. I remember a far left supporter saying anyone voting Tory want children hungry and people homeless , I do not agree or believe this . A .Lib voter would be ignored .

durhamjen Sun 18-Mar-18 11:56:27

I find it strange that people forget that they said they would never and have never voted labour.
They get very coy when asked.

Chewbacca Sun 18-Mar-18 11:54:12

I always understood that how, and who, you vote for was a personal thing and not to be disclosed in general. But it's an entirely personal decision and you if you're happy to do so, that fine. But I think if someone doesn't want to reveal their voting history, that should be respected too. I have friends that I've had for over 40 years and I have no idea who they have voted for and I would never dream of asking them because its too personal a question.

Eloethan Sun 18-Mar-18 11:40:23

I vote Labour and am not afraid to disclose it. I do so in order to be above board about my political leanings. I am not ashamed of my political views or my past voting record. I am aware that disclosing my support of Labour will mean that my comments will be considered in the light of my political leanings.

If we could be identified on this site, i.e. our names and addresses available to all and sundry, I can perhaps understand why some people are reluctant to discuss their past and current political affiliations, but unless we choose to provide lots of personal information and a photograph in our Gransnet profiles, we are anonymous on here. So why are people so cagey about disclosing who they vote for?

Anniebach Sun 18-Mar-18 11:27:30

Corbyn popped into a cafe accompanied by only a couple of people and a camera ?

The PM runs the country, the leader of other parties only have to race around the country canvassing for votes.

If the PM popped into a cafe this would involved security guards, a PM cannot pop around the country in and out of cafe's for photo shoots, every movement has to involve high security , regardless of who is PM.

Primrose65 Sun 18-Mar-18 11:02:58

John McDonnell seems to be distancing himself from Corbyn again. He said on Peston that he agreed with Theresa May about Putin.

This is happening more and more recently.

lemongrove Sun 18-Mar-18 11:00:07

A) You know nothing about my life
B)No, I want somebody like Starmer as leader of the opposition
C) Do not continue with this personal line you are taking

durhamjen Sun 18-Mar-18 10:55:17

You've never voted Labour in your life, lemon, so why do you care so much about who leads the party?
Surely having Corbyn there and him losing votes is what you want, isn't it?

lemongrove Sun 18-Mar-18 10:45:43

I think she has more important things to do at the moment
trisher !
Being PM ( being a good PM) doesn’t revolve around how touchy feely you are.Wilson’s pipe in hand and a pint was all a put on show.
Why was Corbyn in Newcastle, don’t tell me he went there just to ‘pop into a cafe’.

Jalima1108 Sun 18-Mar-18 10:43:53

Who said that asking personal questions is a form of bullying?

She probably doesn't have enough time trisher

trisher Sun 18-Mar-18 10:39:32

Corbyn popped into a cafe in Newcastle yesterday, accompanied by only a couple of people. He was photographed with staff and chatted to everyone. Can you imagine Theresa doing that?

lemongrove Sun 18-Mar-18 10:37:49

All you need to know is that I won’t be voting that way while Corbyn is the leader.

lemongrove Sun 18-Mar-18 10:36:27

Keep things non personal durhamjen for this thread.
Asking posters about their voting habits comes under this heading.

durhamjen Sun 18-Mar-18 10:33:44

When was the last time you voted for the labour party, lemon?

Anniebach Sun 18-Mar-18 10:29:48

Certainly is lemon, the defence of that man gets weaker, dafter and more pathetic with each day.

lemongrove Sun 18-Mar-18 10:24:09

Irony really, isn’t it Annie ? grin

durhamjen Sun 18-Mar-18 10:20:38

Even more nonsense, Annie, but as expected.
