A thread for all Corbyn lovers & haters

lemongrove Tue 27-Mar-18 18:32:24

So there is indeed a problem.

whitewave Tue 27-Mar-18 18:18:34

grandad the LP has grown so swiftly over the past 2 years that I think any leader would be hard pushed to keep up with the problems this brings.

What is needed is an education programme which I am sure will be introduced in the not too distant future.

Says someone else who wouldn't vote for labour, lemon.
How puerile.

GracesGranMK2 Tue 27-Mar-18 17:56:05

I don't think Corbyn can point to anything and say 'I did that, I made that happen'.

I certainly think he had something to do with May having a minority government although he may have to share that with May herself.

lemongrove Tue 27-Mar-18 17:52:54

dj and GGM2.......oh give it up.grin
Hopeless childish responses from you.

lemongrove Tue 27-Mar-18 17:51:08

Primrose exactly, he is out of his depth as a Leader, being a back bencher suited him.

durhamjen Tue 27-Mar-18 17:50:24

Someone else saying Corbyn isn't up to the job of leading a party she'd never vote for.

GracesGranMK2 Tue 27-Mar-18 17:49:52

I think you do think you know these things lemongrove. After all you seem to know who people consider their "Leader".

durhamjen Tue 27-Mar-18 17:48:24

You mean like you, lemon, being a member of the Tory party and not admitting to racism or antisemitism in the party?

Primrose65 Tue 27-Mar-18 17:46:59

Grandad1943 I think you could be onto something there. Looking at the local election results, Labour do seem to be picking up the ex-UKIP vote. I don't know if they're members yet, or simply voters......

Baggs I agree that Corbyn's out of his depth. Simply saying you're anti-racist etc is just meeting a minimum standard of decency. I don't think Corbyn can point to anything and say 'I did that, I made that happen'. As a person, I'm sure he's decent, possibly even charming. As a leader, he's just not up to the job.

lemongrove Tue 27-Mar-18 17:46:05

Just agree with Corbyn ....however much it sticks in the throat, instead of denying everything. There is a problem within the LP which has to be addressed.

lemongrove Tue 27-Mar-18 17:44:05

No, why should I?

whitewave Tue 27-Mar-18 17:40:18

Do you doubt our truth?

lemongrove Tue 27-Mar-18 17:35:37

On form again I see GGM2 (Misunderstanding posts)

Many posters are claiming to have never encountered a problem within the LP (by members) of antisemitism. That they have never seen instances of it.

GracesGranMK2 Tue 27-Mar-18 17:29:24

How do you know people haven't experienced anti-Semitism lemongrove? I feel slightly worried that you are suggesting you know who all the Jews are on this forum.

lemongrove Tue 27-Mar-18 17:10:56

It’s getting desperate now on here by far left posters.....why not just do the same as your Leader, admit there is a problem within the LP with antisemitism ? Is it really so hard?
Just because you personally haven’t experienced it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
There is something wrong with belonging to a political party and refusing to see any problem within it.
It’s always somebody else's fault, isn’t it.It hasn’t shown the views of a few posters on GN in a good light!

Grandad1943 Tue 27-Mar-18 17:06:13

Labour membership is at present above half a million, with many of those new members being people badly affected by immigration, globalization, the housing crisis and the gig economy. Many of those persons on joining the Labour party also have their own added views on why the above problems have come about, and in that by example, racism can often be found close to condemnation of immigration.

Where Jeremy Corbyn has failed is to be found in the problems of controlling a movement now the size of the Labour party. Since becoming leader Corbyn more than any other leader since Atlee has encouraged the grassroots to have a far larger say in bringing forward Labour party policy.

In the above, is it any wonder that those large-scale grassroots views when put forward will at times contain people's reasoning of why the above problems have occurred and in that so affected them. Often unfounded misplaced blame can be placed on immigrants and the religious groupings contained within it which in the current situation has also brought forward anti-Semitism.

I believe that racism and anti-Semitic views are held in both major political parties, but with a membership of what is thought to be now no more than seventy thousand it is much easier to contain and control within the Conservative party. However, examples are easily found.

David Thomas @ David_t_Thomas

Tory activist. Proud of our blue nation. Pheasant breeder. Has just removed a tweet pronto and not surprising when you read it.

“Its an actual stroke of genius that we have pulled this off
and just before the elections too. Perfect timing”

Guess what it was about?

durhamjen Tue 27-Mar-18 16:31:37

Agreed, whitewave.
Annie, I know it's not done for people to criticise spelling, but I would have thought that someone who is religious would have heard of the Semites, and therefore would get the spelling of semitic correct.

trisher Tue 27-Mar-18 16:30:59

I'm not sure about the Andy Mcdonald complaint. I understand that it is considered anti-semitic to compare any event of the Holocaust with other events. But if I say I was horrified by Auschwitz and that I was horrified by the treatment of Palestinians am I comparing them? Or just making a statement about 2 seperate situations? Does the restriction mean that we cannot be horrified by two experiences, or that we can only speak about one of them?

Baggs Tue 27-Mar-18 16:26:56

I don't think I've ever heard anyone make a racist or anti-Semitic remark. That doesn't prove that racism and anti-Semitism don't exist.

What I have experienced within the Labour Party is reverse snobbery, which is a kind of prejudice as well. If the leader of the Labour Party says there are pockets of anti-Semitism within the party, whcih he does, and if other MPs say there is anti-Semitism within the party, I believe them.

My own feeling is that JC is out of his depth, which I would also be if I were in his position, which I never would be, iyswim.

whitewave Tue 27-Mar-18 16:16:07

Well said eleothan as I have repeatedly said as you have said i have never anyone make racist remarks about Jews, I have quite a few Jewish friends and have never experienced such behaviour towards them. And to be truthful can only remember one racist remark about a black person by a neighbour, over which I made my feelings known.

The rest of your post is a reasoned, thoughtful and sensible.

durhamjen Tue 27-Mar-18 16:00:55

Monica, I don't have a dossier on you at all, or anyone else, but if you say you are never ever going to even consider voting for labour ever ever again, or whatever, it makes me wonder if you ever voted for labour before.
And you didn't did you? I did a search which is not against the rules and discovered that you have never voted labour.
The first thread that came up was "I've always been a lifelong .........." and there you were, saying you had never ever ever voted labour - or tory, come to that.

Anniebach Tue 27-Mar-18 15:59:41

If some in the Labour Party were not anti semetic there would be no beating with a stick.
