As for the use of the terminology 'Grass roots Movement ' wasn't that once simply called called the 'Labour Membership' at one time.

The Grass Roots Movement is now only thought of as the Jeremy for Labour/Momentum Party and it was established for the man not the Labour Party and the two are not necessarily compatible, hence the reports of deselection of Councillors and possibly in time for some MP's.

It is not merely a case of ' adjusting their beliefs ' though is it .

It is the point that unless they do 'adjust their beliefs' to conform to those of Corbyn /Jeremy for Leader / Party Momentum they are threatened with deselection .

POGS of course people on the far left adjusted their beliefs. Do you not remember Clause 4? Many would have preferred it to remain in some form, but it went and no-one walked away. The question is why when the policies being proposed are by no means as drastic as that reform are some MPs threatening to split. I don't believe that it is entirely to do with left wing policies I think some MPs want to retain the PLP's control of the party and are unwilling to surrender it to a grass roots movement.

If one of the others had been selected Labour could expect to win the next election. I cringe saying this , but I cannot undo my big mistake

Why should I have to adjust my beliefs? To support Corbyn I would have to abandon them completely. Good grief the communist party are supporting this man.

Like the anti - semitism issue the talk of a possible Labour Party split is at least 2 years old and it all started when Corbyn/Jeremy for Leader/Momentum took over the Labour Party.

I still believe that had any of the other candidates for Labour Leader had won this would not even be spoken about.

Why should 'centrists' adjust their beliefs? Was Corbyn ever told to adjust his far left beliefs?

What do you think a 'Broad Church' Party means if not accepting left/centre/right views are all worthy.

The chance of a new party being formed is either credible or hypothetical, who knows. However it raises an interesting question .

The question is why should any MP feel he/she has to leave the Labour Party . Corbyn was never as far as I know ever so shabbily treated with the threat of being deselected when he was voting against his party, exercising his right to go with his conscience.

I don’t recall any MP’s being in fear of deselection or of councillors being forced to leave when Blair was the Leader.
Or of antisemitism being rampant in the LP.Or of women LP MP’s being reduced to tears.Or of Labour voters being worried about national security and thinking that Blair hated Royalty and always took the side of UK enemies.
Or of LP voters thinking that Blair would likely wreck the economy with putting into practice idealogical idiocies.

So many good experienced MP's are wasted on the back benches ,they have no voice in the party, it is ruled by Corbyn's inner circle . I can't even recall the names of the majority of the shadow cabinet, the same faces are brought out to utter Corbyn speak. If Corbyn were to retire the next leader would be chosen by Momentum and the Unions so another far left leader

POGS the Labour Party was a Broad Church and many people quelled their doubts and adjusted their beliefs to accommodate Tony Blair. In spite of their doubts they remained with the party, The real question is "Why can't those people who describe themselves as 'centrist' do the same?"

Why should Labour MP's find the need to join a new party .?

Why should MP's who have served the Labour Party be ousted by those members who only joined because of Corbyn and were either never Labour Members or 'returned' to the party after years of turning their backs on Labour?

What do you call it when a back bench MP who voted against his party for decades becomes Leader and treats those back bench MP's who are doing just as he did with contempt using his own loyal private party.?

Jess Phillips is tough but has only been an MP since 2015, and , this will cause uproar, - her accent . Who ever was leader has to appeal to middle England . I know from experience, voters are touchy about accents , .kinnock's Welsh accent went against him, same with Browns Scots accent , but not a plump in mouth accent either

It would Annie. I think the problem is that Labour has been saying to centrists that they should go off and join the Tories, not start a new party. All these centrists are just not doing what they're told!

Eloethan, I'll just take my cues on Lansman from his actions not his words. I don't think he's challenged the system at all in his business ventures, I think he's exploited it for maximum personal gain.

John McDonnell is not very impressed by the idea of a new centrist party. " A party of the rich, by the rich, for the rich." I hope he never finds out that Momentum is run by a multi-millionaire.

I don't think there's any justification whatosever for using live ammunition on people lighting tyres and throwing stones. I think around 30 Palestinians have been shot dead by the Israeli forces over the last few days. If that had occurred in any other "developed" country, there would be absolute outrage.

( legitimately) that Israel used excessive force against the Palestinians recently, while at the same time not having any hard feelings towards Jewish people ( but you know that already.) Unfortunately a lot of LP members seem not to know it.
