A continuation of Momentum/Intertia/Magnetism/Elasticity but with a less scientific bias. grin

A thread about Corbyn. For lovers and haters.

lemongrove Thu 26-Apr-18 13:13:58

What McCluskey has said shows that Unions do want to tell Labour what to do ( well, that is well known but often denied on GN.)The power of the Unions not a threat? It certainly is for some Labour MP’s!

Anniebach Thu 26-Apr-18 11:32:10

Oldwoman, Ruth was surrounded by the MP's, I noticed Margaret Hodge there, frightening that an MP has to be protected from a baying mob because she is a Jew

Oldwoman70 Thu 26-Apr-18 10:45:53

That concerned me too Anniebach. Why should anyone, MP or not, have to need an escort simply because someone disagrees with their views.

Anniebach Thu 26-Apr-18 08:36:56

Mccluskey said anyone stupid enough to challenge Corbyn for the leadership would have to be accountable for their actions, union power on the rise again ?

it was horrible to see Ruth Smeeth being escorted by MP's yesterday protecting her from far left supporters

May 2016
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-36180572.

" A row about anti-Semitism is being used by Jeremy Corbyn's opponents within Labour to undermine his leadership, Unite chief Len McCluskey says.

Mr McCluskey, whose union is Labour's biggest donor, attacked a "cynical attempt to manipulate anti-Semitism for political aims"
----

Fast forward to May 2018 and he is still saying the same thing 'it's a smear' and calling for deselections.

What is it that some people never believed what was happening 2 years ago and still don't believe has continued to happen re anti - semitism, deselections and of course all a right wing conspiracy despite the loudest voices are from Labour MP's themselves.

Anniebach Wed 25-Apr-18 20:24:38

The skulduggery at work since he became leader is now seeping into the Welsh Labour Party

Jalima1108 Wed 25-Apr-18 19:45:18

but do sod all else.
You may get home-made scones and jam Day6

It is all very well sitting on the back benches voting against everything and everyone and pretending to be Citizen Smith, but that does not make a leader - let alone a Prime Minister.

Day6 Wed 25-Apr-18 19:08:22

However, selected candidates have to be endorsed by the NEC.

That means they have to be vetted by Momentum bods.. and far left I presume. Hmmm. Come the revolution... hmm

Corbyn should never have been selected to lead the party. He is the most dithery, indecisive, evasive politician of all time, with a penchant for inaction and a default position of 'lets talk about it over tea.'

You wouldn't want to rely on him in a crisis, that's for sure. He'd boil the kettle but do sod all else. He might ring Comrade Putin for advice. Or Comrade Maduro in Venezuela.

He can never be allowed to lead the country. The only winners would be hard left revolutionary types who'd be pulling his strings and disaster would reign in every single sphere.

M0nica Wed 25-Apr-18 19:06:22

Jalima spot on. To me it shows a lack of moral courage

Jalima1108 Wed 25-Apr-18 18:43:31

That's right of course, petra
Good observation

petra Wed 25-Apr-18 18:38:43

jalima
All those decisions he makes Re his allotment is for him and nobody else.

Jalima1108 Wed 25-Apr-18 18:08:47

A very good description, M0nica

However, he must be able to make some decisions, eg when to plant his marrow seeds, when to transplant the seedlings , when a blackberry is ripe enough to pick and which recipe to use for his jam.
Although perhaps he is a follower rather than a decision maker, following Monty Don and Delia Smith.

I said from the beginning that he is a puppet.

M0nica Wed 25-Apr-18 17:51:22

Perhaps it was the allotment committee that scared him off decision making.

Petra yes, doesn't require any conscious thought.

petra Wed 25-Apr-18 17:21:01

I put the shrugging of the shoulders down to muscle memory.
the ability to reproduce a particular movement without conscious thought aquired as a result of frequent repetition of that movement grin
He does shrug his shoulders a lot.

lemongrove Wed 25-Apr-18 16:10:47

The allotment Committee? Although those can get very heated at times.

M0nica Wed 25-Apr-18 16:08:55

or preferably a position where he doesn't have to be involved in any decisions at all, that way he doesn't have to take responsibility for anything.

lemongrove Wed 25-Apr-18 15:56:43

Yes, that’s a very fair description I think Monica he has no leadership skills, being simply part of a team would suit him with no decisions to make.A back bencher or something similar! grin

Anniebach Wed 25-Apr-18 13:02:22

I love The Gondoliers and love your post MOnica, so true, Corbyn can talk the talk etc

M0nica Wed 25-Apr-18 10:51:10

I was listening to R4 this morning and heard an interview with one of the Jewish leaders JC met yesterday. I found it revelatory.

He said Corbyn really engaged in their talks with him, but the moment they started talking about actions he could take, he just shrugged his shoulders.

It suddenly occurred to me that this is Corbyns fatal flaw, he will not make decisions or commit himself to anything. This is why he has been so equivocal about admitting that the Russian were involved in poisoning the Skripals, many of his rebellions were because voting with his party meant committing himself to definite policies and actions. He played around with terrorist groups, but made no commitments and he is doing this still now he is the party leader. Hence the mess it is in.

I am reminded of the description of the Duke of Plaza-Toro in ' the G&S comic opera The Gondoliers'

^In enterprise of martial kind,
When there was any fighting,
He led his regiment from behind
(He found it less exciting).
But when away his regiment ran,
His place was at the fore, O-
That celebrated,
Cultivated,
Underrated
Noble man,
The Duke of Plaza-Toro!^

Anniebach Tue 24-Apr-18 14:39:14

True mostly,

mostlyharmless Tue 24-Apr-18 14:22:36

Though Annie to be honest it’s even worse thinking that she could have been a Westminster MP!

Anniebach Tue 24-Apr-18 10:16:47

My mistake , thank you

mostlyharmless Tue 24-Apr-18 09:30:05

Apparently she is a candidate for the Parliamentary seat - so plenty of time to find a new candidate before the next General Election. Unless May decides to call a snap election again like this time last year! Unlikely!

Labour allows local parties to select their own candidates in the same way that the Conservative Party does.

The Guardian says: Labour gave up vetting shortlists of candidates centrally more than a decade ago, partly because it was seen as a way of exercising undue control over who was selected. However, selected candidates have to be endorsed by the NEC.

Anniebach Tue 24-Apr-18 09:06:24

The elections are on the 3rd May, only nine days to go and she hasn't been vetted by the NEC? Does the NEC vet every candidate in every council election in England ?

mmmmmmm

Iam64 Tue 24-Apr-18 08:56:54

Let's hope Mandy Richards isn't accepted as a candidate by the NEC then mostlyharmless. What does her selection say about her local party though?
