A continuation of Momentum/Intertia/Magnetism/Elasticity but with a less scientific bias. grin

A thread about Corbyn. For lovers and haters.

Primrose65 Tue 10-Apr-18 08:07:00

Well, of course, the guineapig was used sneeringly

My list of faults grows daily grin grin grin

Anniebach Tue 10-Apr-18 03:10:15

Guineapigs sre rather dependant on their comrades and not the brightest of creatures in the animal kingdom, they squeal a lot too. Little girls fuss over them, get all mumsy, so sweet.

Eloethan Tue 10-Apr-18 00:01:14

Well, of course, the guineapig was used sneeringly. But actually it could be seen as quite a compliment as guineapigs are charming creatures who are ideal pets because they are peaceful and don't bite. That leaves snakes in the grass, sharks, and animals with similarly threatening images, to be used for other deserving politicians.

As usual, there is an inconsistency of outrage. Oneof the anti-Corbyn group quite recently said "I can smell a bubbling cauldron again" - but since it was addressed to posters on the left, no issue was made of it.

Jalima1108 Mon 09-Apr-18 23:44:40

Iam64 I was replying to Grandad's post and saying I, like you, don't understand either, why he made that comment

Jalima1108 Mon 09-Apr-18 23:31:23

Can you help me understand why you think it's acceptable to use what most would see as judgemental and derogatory terminology to describe a group of women.

I don't understand - if nothing else it is sexist and a bit odd coming from someone who trains young people.

It would seem that some on this forum particularly members of the "coven" which is short for "Conservative oppression versus enlightened notification"
Did you just make that up?
And if so, how do you know that anyone you accuse of being in so-called coven votes conservative?

confused

ps as far as we are aware whitewave is a woman Grandad

I like guinea pigs; I think he looks very sweet.

Grandad1943 Mon 09-Apr-18 23:20:28

See you when I return tomorrow evening at some time.

Grandad1943 Mon 09-Apr-18 23:17:02

A little upset primrose are you. As Corporal Jones of Dads Army always stated, " they don't like it up em......they don't like it up em" smile

Primrose65 Mon 09-Apr-18 23:11:21

Or do you just not like guinea pigs?

Primrose65 Mon 09-Apr-18 23:10:16

So start the thread you want grandad! Better than criticising the OP whilst moaning about not respecting other views.

Grandad1943 Mon 09-Apr-18 22:59:57

It would seem that some on this forum particularly members of the "coven" which is short for "Conservative oppression versus enlightened notification" are quick to point out what they see as the shortcomings of others while not looking towards their own.

Lemongrove, with every respect, but you particularly seem on many occasions to face in different directions on this forum. In the last Corbyn thread you accused me and others of "deviation" in regard to this being a thread solely in regard to Jeremy Corbyn. However, Whitwave opened a separate thread entitled "News from the Opposition. In one of the earliest postings of that thread he advised in regard to Kear Starmer’s comments on a speech given by David Davis the following provocative statement, to which you engaged with the following

Quote [Lemongrove, So, you aren’t enjoying the other Corbyn thread? To say ‘anything intelligent’ simply means you would prefer only pleasant and upbeat things to be said about him I presume, as there are plenty of intelligent comments on the other thread ot
.Thisone is for Corbynistasonly.Enjoy!] End quote

Lemongrove, I have no doubts that had Whitewave posted in this thread in regard to Kear Starmer or anyone else criticizing a Conservative MP or even Theresa May you would have been one of the first to accuse him of deviation or being of topic advising "this is a thread in regard to Jeremy Corbyn and nothing else" as you have carried out the foregoing with me.

I believe many would find the above very strange behaviour from someone who enjoys debate on a forum.

Perhaps more we can have a balanced thread with a reasonable title in which we can all respect each other and their views

Eloethan Mon 09-Apr-18 22:40:03

I expect the word coven was used in the same spirit as Corbyn now being referred to as Comrade Corbychev, and those who try to point out that there is an agenda that fuels the witchhunt against him are referred to as Corbynistas (amongst other things).

Anniebach Mon 09-Apr-18 22:36:47

Militants ? That is so funny, well he has had a busy day

trisher Mon 09-Apr-18 22:32:43

Question- how would Grandad1943 know the gender of any of you? And there were male witches And the word has another meaning
Coven-a group or meeting of witches.
derogatory
a secret or close-knit group of associates.
"covens of militants within the party"
So perhaps he was using the second meaning.

Primrose65 Mon 09-Apr-18 22:29:51

Day6 the Campaign against Antisemitism has made a formal complaint about him to the LP, so we'll wait and see how long the process takes.

Anniebach Mon 09-Apr-18 22:28:37

Maybot is acceptable , I assume because she is a politician

As is the title of this tread

Calling posters is a personal attack on fellow posters, proves the contempt the poster has for women

Primrose65 Mon 09-Apr-18 22:28:31

humpty Ignore my last post - too much cooking sherry. Corbyn often calls others comrade, so there's no problem with that. I'm not sure why Corbychev would be anything other than a compliment.

lemongrove Mon 09-Apr-18 22:26:18

Yes, you are missing something humpty......quite a big something.

Primrose65 Mon 09-Apr-18 22:24:18

We are all different posters humpty - there's no collective responsibility here grin

Day6 Mon 09-Apr-18 22:23:35

Well Theresa May is often named "Maybot" by left wing posters on GN. Did you raise the same objections then?

humptydumpty Mon 09-Apr-18 22:21:41

Am I missing something here - isn't it a bit hypocritical to criticise granddad for his choice of expression but be OK with 'Comrade Corbychev'

Day6 Mon 09-Apr-18 22:19:11

Iam64 asked Grandad1945 I feel certain you will have attended diversity training courses as part of your work. You may even deliver such courses. Can you help me understand why you think it's acceptable to use what most would see as judgemental and derogatory terminology to describe a group of women.

Thank you for raising that point. I found that description inappropriate and contemptuous, I must say.

lemongrove Mon 09-Apr-18 22:11:30

I said exactly the same thing Iam64 near the end of the last thread.Extremely rude, and would not be said to a group of men.The implication is that women with opposing views are witches, insulting and sexist at the same time, so well done Grandad43

Day6 Mon 09-Apr-18 22:10:59

I see Comrade Corbychev has dismissed the public anger and Jewish indignation regarding anti-Semitic activity within the Labour Party as "faux outrage".

I think he'll find there was nothing 'faux' at all about the uproar created by his activities. How insensitive to try and brush it off.

As for antisemitism he said this

"If it arises in my party then we have a process for dealing with it. We examine each case and if someone has committed any antisemitic act they are suspended and could be expelled as a result of it."

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/jeremy-corbyn-jewdas-passover-dinner-antisemitism-radical-left-wing-jewish-group-defends-decision-a8286441.html

Yet he is still leader. hmm

Iam64 Mon 09-Apr-18 22:08:04

Can I make a comment about the previous thread? It doesn't relate directly to Jeremy Corbyn so I suppose I'm going OP.

Grandad1945, why did you believe it is ok to refer to a group of women as "a coven" on the previous Corbyn thread?

You have ensured we're all aware of your commitment to health and safety and Trade Unions. I feel certain you will have attended diversity training courses as part of your work. You may even deliver such courses. Can you help me understand why you think it's acceptable to use what most would see as judgemental and derogatory terminology to describe a group of women.

Day6 Mon 09-Apr-18 21:43:04

Have we pinged all the elastic then?
