There is, or should be, a lot more to university life than lectures and tutorials.

One of DD's lecturers used to disappear for weeks and when he was there he was quite ineffectual.
Luckily the others were good.

If universities behave like businesses, which they do nowadays, they must be prepared to be treated like businesses and expect to have to compensate their dissatisfied 'customers'.

Yes, I think it would be very reasonable. I understand that a great deal of University learning is self-directed, nevertheless as learning is now a business I think that deficiencies in the delivery should have financial penalties; as would be the case with many other business models.

University costs a fortune now and it makes complete sense for students to start demanding their money's worth.

When my third DD went to university, she discovered that she only had lectures and tutorials on 2 consecutive days - after having organised accommodation for her we felt that she would have been better off having B&B one night a week and drive down and back. She was driving down one day and back the next anyway, as she had a boyfriend (now OH) back here.
