Regret it Brexit?

Why do most MPs including Theresa May, majority of House of Lords, most business leaders, nearly all economists, nearly all academics, nearly all scientists, think we should Remain (or at least stay in a Customs Union)?
Are they all deluded? Are they all doomsayers? Even some of the ardent Brexiteers on the right of the Tory party have their doubts now.
Obviously some gransnetters on here know a lot better than the above leaders.

But some men and women can see upcoming obstacles on a EU wide basis rather than the parochial basis that many remainders seem to. Rather than constantly looking for doom laden economic predictions for UK. Look at the social, economic conditions of the rest of Europe, the building social unrest, the high levels of unemployment the simmering distrust of the EU, the push towards federalism.
If the union was so strong why are the beaureacrats making UKs exit so difficult? To try to prevent the growing numbers of countries hanging in there by their teeth from from following us out.

But man has not been in the habit of deliberately creating their own obstacles.

I feel it such a shame that so many cannot see this as an opportunity.
There is a good little one minute manager book called 'who stole my cheese' which gives a hood insight into those who embrace change and those who cannot.
