Now that time has moved on, but with a long way to go, does anyone regret the way they voted ? And would you still vote the same way if asked to vote again.

Apologies if this has already been discussed, I couldn’t see that it had.

Thank you so much Bridgeit that is such a compliment. I should say most of the people that have posted sound young as well. Perhaps that is why we are bothering with gransnet. Young minds.

No but I have got a postgraduate statistics qualification so am interested in their production.
The first thing one lecturer said to us was - “don’t forget 78% of statistics are made up”

Allygran1 Wed 09-May-18 17:18:52

Yes Jalimal1108 of course that is polite. My post will be conformist and small and I might have to post a few though on one response. But if it helps.

Jalima1108 Wed 09-May-18 17:17:26

sorry Bridgeit, we seem to have side-tracked your thread.

Can we choose a person or does it have to be a thing?

Bridgeit Wed 09-May-18 17:16:22

Perhaps a new topic is called for: If you could take one thing with you to a desert island ? what would it be ?

Jalima1108 Wed 09-May-18 17:15:59

are you using voice recognition lemongrove?
Please bring a sackful of lemons - when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

Gerispringer you don't work The Statistics Office by any chance do you?

lemongrove Wed 09-May-18 17:13:39

Better still Jalima a nice dessert island ( yum) smile

Bridgeit Wed 09-May-18 17:13:34

Ohh no don’t do that Gerispringer, just join Jalima & I with a ?????

Gerispringer Wed 09-May-18 17:10:17

Yes the statistics are an extrapolation from figures ( as are all such statistics) and as such have a probability of accuracy of p<0.5, i.e. 95%. So there is a margin of error and the 1 m figure is therefore not exact but near enough accurate . If you want to know exactly how such statistical info is compiled I could write an essay but won’t .

It's from going out enjoying myself - perhaps it was all too much grin

Bridgeit Wed 09-May-18 17:07:18

We will have to be renamed Gransknackerds?

Jalima1108 Wed 09-May-18 17:06:38

Bring some wine and a fishing net grin

Bridgeit Wed 09-May-18 17:05:58

Can I please join you Jallima1108???

Jalima1108 Wed 09-May-18 17:03:31

Of course we cannot say whether those who voted Leave might be more or less likely than those who voted Remain to keel over at any time but I don't think they're claiming to know that.
Or that Remainers are more likely to keel over due to all the stress and worry.

Perhaps I’m just worn out & tired
I think I must be too because I am getting sick and tired of it all and of Trump etc. etc.
Is there a nice desert island somewhere where I can go and take a pile of 'discs'?

Bridgeit Wed 09-May-18 16:58:43

Perhaps I’m just worn out & tired ?

Bridgeit Wed 09-May-18 16:56:18

Allygran1, don’t ask me why, but you come across as a young person in your posts .

varian Wed 09-May-18 16:54:38

They don't know how any individual voted but the survey information is based on large samples and should be quite accurate within small limits.

Of course we cannot say whether those who voted Leave might be more or less likely than those who voted Remain to keel over at any time but I don't think they're claiming to know that.

Bridgeit Wed 09-May-18 16:53:55

Or even worse a guesstimate!

Jalima1108 Wed 09-May-18 16:50:07

They don't know though, it's a guess whether educated or not.

Bridgeit Wed 09-May-18 16:49:38

Yes I agree Gerispringer, like a wheel within a wheel, the never ending circles of our minds, tralatrala,
We are after all just history in the making .

varian Wed 09-May-18 16:47:35

I think that this is educated guesswork, Jalima based on the statistics which showed how people of different ages voted and the death rates of people of different ages.

Jalima1108 Wed 09-May-18 16:44:58

Although with 1m leave voters having died since the vote, this may be shifting as time goes on.
Interesting - how do they know?

I thought the vote was supposed to be secret unless a person wishes to divulge how they voted.
Unless people are questioned on their deathbed

Welshwife Wed 09-May-18 16:42:30

Just to say those websites were not dodgy as I believe they were checked out before posting - one of the people you were referring to was very careful about ‘dodgy websites’.

Gerispringer Wed 09-May-18 16:41:11

Well you’ve got to admit the posts are a bit long. I don’t really understand why people agreeing with you is a “healthy debate”, whereas disagreement is “insults”. I guess I am now labelled insulting for pointing out weaknesses in an argument. But hey ho I can live with that. I think what is clear no one will change their minds once they have made a simple binary decision when there is no clear personal effect e.g. if you loose your job as a direct result of Brexit you may regret that, but cognitive dissonance is such that even if you did loose your job as a direct result you may rationalise it as being the fault of the EU rather than as a result of your decision. So few people will change their minds or admit to it, which leaves the country just as divided. Although with 1m leave voters having died since the vote, this may be shifting as time goes on.

Jalima1108 Wed 09-May-18 16:40:40

I would like to read your posts AG but a precis would be nice, or bullet pointed.
Am I allowed to say that?
