Now that time has moved on, but with a long way to go, does anyone regret the way they voted ? And would you still vote the same way if asked to vote again.

Apologies if this has already been discussed, I couldn’t see that it had.

Whoops missed second part of op question yes would vote exactly same again

Grandma70s Thu 03-May-18 06:15:47

I voted to remain, and so did most people where I live. I would certainly do so again, and I think the result is a disaster for the country.

Varian as you know, lies and half truths were a factor of Both sides two years ago, but anyone with an ounce of intelligence on both sides could see that , and voted according to how they felt about the matter.
Polls show that most people are happy with their decisions.

I don't remember anyone "blaming immigrants for all the ills of society".

That is YOUR biased and rather nasty interpretation varian and a slur on those who voted to leave. It's kind of handy for Remainers to imply racism was at the heart of the leave vote. More superior virtue signalling!

Open borders was part of the concern but most sensible people, leavers and remainers, know that uncontrolled immigration, and mass unskilled immigration to the UK is a foolish, and given the times in which we live, a dangerous policy.

Immigration became part of every political party's agenda once the topic was out in the open, instead of being swept under the carpet as it had been for years and it was a discussion we needed to have and which was long overdue. That is not racist.

A campaign based on lies and blaming immigrants for all the ills of society should be condemned as wrong by any measure.

Good people were misled into voting leave because they believed the lies and all the closet racists and xenophobes were given permission to express their hatred. Our country is much diminished by this whole sorry charade.

Voted in. Would do so again.
Lemon, shame to see how your comment was misconstrued. I thought it was a comment well worth making (at the time!)

lemongrove Wed 02-May-18 22:38:54

Polls show that the numbers are much as in the referendum
So not many can think they got it wrong.
I know one person that wishes she had voted Remain because it all seems so messy and another who voted Remain and now wishes he had voted Leave. All others I know are happy with the way they voted.

lemongrove Wed 02-May-18 22:34:56

Varian that is your own interpretation, because you think they got it wrong.

Jalima1108 Wed 02-May-18 22:33:34

And your wrong may be someone else's right.

Jalima1108 Wed 02-May-18 22:33:12

It is hardly surprising that no-one on this thread admits to having got it wrong. confused
But most posters have not said how they voted varian

It is hardly surprising that no-one on this thread admits to having got it wrong.

The Remainers were right to oppose throwing away the advantages of EU membership and are truly appalled at the way it is being dealt with, making the likely outcome even more disastrous than we feared.

As for the Leavers - who was it who said "it is much easier to fool people than to get them to admit they have been fooled"?

Jalima1108 Wed 02-May-18 22:22:36

grin

I don't think so on reflection

Probably (because of Gibraltar, NI, The Falklands etc, and Russia)

Sorry if you wanted a definite No and Yes Bridgeit

lemongrove Wed 02-May-18 22:12:26

MaizieD Wed 02-May-18 22:07:50

It was civilised but we don't need to be patted on the head for it like good little children. We are all grownup here. Your comment was patronising and uncalled for, lemon

lemongrove Wed 02-May-18 22:05:18

Polly ....we knew what you meant grin

pollyperkins Wed 02-May-18 22:00:25

Sorry about typos. I meant civilised , political and not nasty!!

pollyperkins Wed 02-May-18 21:58:58

MaizieD Wed 02-May-18 18:43:32

At least, ( so far) this thread has managed to stay non toxic!

Totally unnecessary comment, lemon.

A bit goady, really...

And Tory Brexiteers don’t like it. It sounds as if it’s a way of getting round the Irish border issue, without sounding as if we’re not leaving the EU.
Leaving, but not really leaving?

Welshwife Wed 02-May-18 15:14:30

From what I understood this morning from the radio report it involves the U.K. collecting tax from 3rd countries for goods which are going to the EU via the U.K. and presumably the reverse too. Sounded very complicated.

Theresa May’s new idea of a “Customs Partnership”: Is it just another name for a “Customs Union”?
