Now that time has moved on, but with a long way to go, does anyone regret the way they voted ? And would you still vote the same way if asked to vote again.

Apologies if this has already been discussed, I couldn’t see that it had.

You ask why I believe your "joke" 'stamp issue" is not a joke?

No I didn't. I asked why you said I was wrong.

As far as I'm concerned parodies and satires are forms of jokes. They're meant to make you laugh as well as think. They have nothing to do with Fake News.

of course no one else could possibly understand what Fake news is. Thank you for clarification.

Well, you know, so many people are taken in by this sort of thing. I thought an example would be a good idea.

Mind you, the EU has, since 1994, produced a massive list of Fake News items about the EU which have been promulgated by the media. So many of them were swallowed hook, line and sinker...

Maisie you are such a clever person, of course no one else could possibly understand what Fake news is. Thank you for clarification.

Welshwife and Maizie You ask why I believe your "joke" 'stamp issue" is not a joke?

Because it is somewhere between parody and political satire.

MaizieD Tue 22-May-18 23:38:36

This is Fake News:

A tweet by: Cllr Henry Reilly@HenryReillyNOEU

Republic of Ireland customs checking vehicles for cheap UK red diesel just across the UK border from Co Fermanagh today - And Barnier, Coveney and Varadkar et al say there is no border. The Border issue is a con to try and keep the UK shackled to the EU."
(It has a picture with it but you have to follow the link to see that)

twitter.com/SteveBakerHW/status/998231106838237184

Just enough 'slight' truth in it for gullible Leavers to take it at face value.

It's meant to prove that there is some sort of border control between NI and the ROI.

But just read the thread...

MaizieD Tue 22-May-18 22:32:58

Yes. Why?

Welshwife Tue 22-May-18 22:19:52

Why?

Allygran1 Tue 22-May-18 22:02:56

Hello Maizie you said: "There is a world of difference, Allyg, between a joke (which this 'stamp issue' so obviously is) and Fake News which is intended to be believed by people reading/hearing it. That you mention the two 'in the same breath', so to speak, seems to border on your whole post being 'Fake News'. "

It was actually a couple of breaths but I get what you are trying to say. Your wrong.

I have always got my news from a variety of sources, and that is why I am convinced that the right-wing tabloids have poisoned the minds of those who read very little else

Bridgeit Tue 22-May-18 19:31:06

That’s a good one ?

Gerispringer Tue 22-May-18 19:23:47

Might be useful

Bridgeit Tue 22-May-18 19:15:48

Wow that’s rather a sweeping judgemental statement!
There are people who read a selection of papers, get there news via television, internet ,belong to a political party etc.
We are all influenced & susceptible to be hoodwinked somwhere along the line, you have put yourself in position of being more informed, more intelligent, more savvy that tells me you are not as wise as you think.

varian Tue 22-May-18 19:08:31

The most serious problem is that the readers of the right-wing tabloids - The Sun, Daily Mail and Express have been subjected to fake news for the last forty or fifty years because it suits the billionaire owners of these papers to poison the minds of their poorly educated readers to direct their votes - in elections and in referendums.

Funny! Talk about Fake News.

There is a world of difference, Allyg, between a joke (which this 'stamp issue' so obviously is) and Fake News which is intended to be believed by people reading/hearing it. That you mention the two 'in the same breath', so to speak, seems to border on your whole post being 'Fake News'.

There are lots of quotes flying around social media with their basic theme being that people can be very easily convinced by a lie but it is very difficult to get them to accept that what they believe is a lie. Fake News, so easily promulgated through the internet, is the curse of our era. I don't find jokes about it at all funny.

Hahaha!! Granny23

varian Tue 22-May-18 14:21:43

Thanks for those Granny23. It would be funny if it wasn't so true!

New Brexit stamps to be issued tomorrow.

Joelsnan thank you for the link.

MaizieD Tue 22-May-18 09:20:24

Maybe, Joelsnan but I really can't see us building 30 satellites in 2 years (or even 3 or 4 years)

Joelsnan Tue 22-May-18 09:15:45

MaizieD Much of the infrastructure and intellectual property will already be here as we were in Gallileo from its inception and that will not go away.
There have been a lot of delays with Gallileo, maybe RAFSA can capitalise on this.

MaizieD Mon 21-May-18 23:33:19

How long do you think it's going to take for us to develop a completely new system?

It seems to have taken 12 years to achieve the launch of 22 of the 30 planned Gallileo satellites. Are we going to do 30 in two years?

Allygran1 Mon 21-May-18 22:44:08

Joelsnan thanks for the link to the article.

It's Great news. " ...the Ministry of Defence announcing plans for its own £4billion satellite navigation project.

It is believed that the MoD will signal its intentions today to boost resources for a specialised space unit under control of the Royal Air Force."

Lots of jobs when this gets up and running.

MaizieD Mon 21-May-18 22:18:03

Shame to have to start all over again when we've already put so much money into the joint project..

Joelsnan Mon 21-May-18 19:59:02

The Express is quoting 4 billion, half the cost of Gallileo
