Conservatives and Pendle Council

I think it is disgusting that the Conservatives reinstated a councillor previously suspended over a racist joke in order to take control of Pendle council. The joke was disgusting and her assertion that she shared it by mistake unacceptable. That someone would even dare to send her such a joke says so much about her. You can read about it here. Just one warning the joke is completely foul and you may prefer not to read it www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/tories-win-pendle-reinstating-councillor-12481278

Yes, spot on Ilovecheese and Trisher. In the office at the moment but will be back on the forum later to add to your posts, especially to the Daily Mail and Sun readers who so well outed themselves yesterday.

Ilovecheese Thu 10-May-18 13:05:57

"Oh I see.Anti-semitism in the Labour party blame it on Corbyn.Racism in the Conservative party blame it on the locals!!!"

Spot on Trisher

Anti-semitism in the Labour Party needs to be addressed by Jeremy Corbyn

But racism in the Conservative party does not need to be addressed by Mrs May

Fennel Thu 10-May-18 08:35:53

Yes Jalima - where are you, grumppa?
Probably having a quiet laugh.

lemongrove Wed 09-May-18 22:39:54

....and Mike tells us about his weather conditions.

Jalima1108 Wed 09-May-18 19:34:12

grumppa is always succinct and sensible

It's a pity though that we can't have more grandads on here, to give a wider discussion.
They have a different style of argument than ours. Sometimes reliant on flooding and shouting down - from my personal experience wink.

lemongrove Wed 09-May-18 18:36:07

I think that Grandad has his own agenda ( a very left wing one) and has ‘taken umbrage’ at my comments in another political thread. There is no other explanation.
There was nothing in my post as Mawbroon and Jalima
Attest to, just that Bank Holidays with family visiting are a busy time and we are otherwise occupied, so do not rush to post on GN.
Just because you ‘received praise’ a few months ago Grandad don’t think you can say anything you like to women on here, without any riposte.

Day6 Wed 09-May-18 18:31:23

However, I do feel that you should continue to read their style (believing all they print of course) as they do "false outrage" far better than yourself at this point in time

Sorry to disappoint Grandad, but I am not a DM reader, or a Mirror reader either. I am fully aware of the political biases of both papers and I can make up my own mind as to prejudices and devices used for emphasis, etc.

It's easy enough to pick up any headlines on any story from any paper online. You know that. You're good with technology wink

Just to reassure you the Guardian, Independent, Socialist Worker, Morning Star, Sun, The Economist, New Statesman, and American papers and various online blogs have also been useful sources. I am far from the unworldly, old fashioned, blinkered woman you like to portray me and others as being.

But carry on if it comforts you and gives you some satisfaction to denigrate posters who have worries about Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party.

MawBroon Wed 09-May-18 18:19:43

Perhaps I am biased but I read Lemongrove’s comment about Bank Holiday Monday as a perfectly justifiable reason for not being glued to one’s iPad/laptop, namely, hosting family or friends or visiting.
I don’t think she at any time implied being “chained to the kitchen sink”, that was your interpretation and it may say much about your own attitude. I might agree that we Grans might be busier cooking meals but Grandpa could just as easily be working his magic on the barbecue or playing cricket with his grandchildren. Or vice versa.
To extrapolate from that that lemongrove is behind the times or whatever is frankly ridiculous and you owe her an apology.
This thread has now to all intents and purposes been successfully hijacked -I do wonder what your intention has been if not merely to signal your own virtue.
So, to sum up, in case you are not yet clear about how things work, just because a person does not post does not in any way indicate or prove they are unwilling to or have no interest.
One can simply be doing something else

Jalima1108 Wed 09-May-18 18:02:34

but also very insulting to women in general with its "we are all still chained to the kitchen sink" theme
All I can see in Lemongrove's post of that date and time is a reference to visiting family at Bank Holiday. No reference to sinks, chains, kitchens etc
confused
or have I missed something?

sorry, must rush off, DH needs his dinner before he goes out for a pint.

Think we are feeding a need

MawBroon Wed 09-May-18 17:21:57

Back to work tomorrow, so will be taking a break from GN
That was posted on Monday Grandad
If only. <sigh>

I partially take back what I said in finding you patronising, gratuitously offensive might be closer to the mark.

lemongrove Wed 09-May-18 17:07:37

Perhaps you are demonstrating more of the equality of the sexes that you seem so fond of. grin

lemongrove Wed 09-May-18 17:05:53

You are certainly brave about being insulting to women on social media, Grandad what a guy! Good job for you this is only Gransnet and not some forums where the other men would eat you for breakfast.

Grandad1943 Wed 09-May-18 17:00:22

Day6, with regard to your posting today (09/05/18 @ 16:11) I do love the Daily Mail style "false outrage" that you demonstrate in that post and so often on this forum.

However, I do feel that you should continue to read their style (believing all they print of course) as they do "false outrage" far better than yourself at this point in time.

Jalima1108 Wed 09-May-18 16:56:52

^ I am not refurring to^
Unfortunately, this is the kind of statement that is posted when you use voice recognition.

Anniebach Wed 09-May-18 16:15:07

I know an old boy who sounds off about male superiority , bless him, he is so henpecked in his home

Day6 Wed 09-May-18 16:11:19

Grandad - Lemongrove, I believe that with each post in this thread you demonstrate just how far behind the times you have become.

Ye Gods! shock

Grandad is very good at castigating women. Lemon. Apparently women wouldn't have got the vote if the suffragettes had been like me, according to Grandad. grin

On the one hand, he tries to be very 'right-on' whilst letting us know what he thinks of modern grandmothers - women who have been in the workplace and done their bit for womens' liberation and equality over the decades - since the 1960s in my case!

We've raised strong, open minded daughters and sons and still hold families together, and arrange gatherings and in truth many women still do much of the planning to make it happen. Men are equally as capable but not as active it would seem. (See numerous threads on GN and Mumsnet) It is an illustration of our strengths, ability and commitment and not the old-fashioned weakness Grandad thinks it is.

Some training needed there, maybe? grin

So loyal is Ken

Anniebach Wed 09-May-18 15:51:13

It has been two years since Livingstone hit the headlines re anti semitism

Day6 Wed 09-May-18 15:49:14

Thanks for the update Annie Why am I not surprised? sad

Day6 Wed 09-May-18 15:47:52

However, when the anti-semitism allegations began several weeks ago the Labour party supporters on this forum I referred to in my earlier posting stated continuously with veracity and frequency their condemnation of Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour party

Dear oh dear Grandad - did you not appreciate that Corbyn's behaviour has been filling column inches of the NATIONAL newspapers and online blogs and articles for weeks - nay, months?

Of course there has been comment. Lots of it on Gransnet and elsewhere, for a long, long time. Corbyn is controversial, (as are his Marxist pals and racist supporters) and that's putting it politely.

Anniebach Wed 09-May-18 15:31:49

Livingstone isn’t in or out, been suspended but still allowed to campaign for Corbyn

Day6 Wed 09-May-18 15:14:08

I cannot think of any posters on GN that would not say that the councillor had re tweeted a vile and racist so called joke, no matter what their politics

Indeed lemon. Which Labour MPs/politicians defended the abuse directed at Sajid Javid?

You cannot defend the indefensible.

This happened a year ago, the woman was taken to task over it and has had diversity training since.
It doesn't make it alright as the 'joke' was disgusting. It is as well the Labour Party supporting Daily Mirror making a story of it! (I added that because several posters hold up their hands in horror and scream "Daily Mail" if it is mentioned. grin

However, it is likely that there are several obtuse politicians in local and central government who either fail to be aware of racial abuse, haven't a clue about diversity and choose to look the other way and not denounce it when they are told about it. It is worrying.

Corbyn is the expert. Is Ken Livingstone back in the fold yet?
