The tributes make very sad reading but are an excellent way of bringing home to every one how much a secure safe home matters to every one in any walk of life and how families who love one another live regardless of income.

ab I agree - that’s why I think allowing the tributes is so important but I do think it’s a two way process - he and many others ( I hope) will gain a greater understanding of the impact of these deaths which should feed into the sheer dreadfulness that it was allowed to happen at all.

I hope it does help people to accept the judge will be honest and fair and without prejudice.

I listened to the tributes yesterday, was in tears, my thoughts did drift back to the Aberfan disaster enquiry,

I’m pleased that after being lobbied the Judge of the inquiry decided to allow tributes to the 72 who died to be given at the start of the enquiry. He said these testimonies were an integral part of the evidence. I’ve found the first few to be given incredibly moving and dignified and a stark reminder of the terrible event. He’s allowing each family to give the tribute in whatever way they wish and to take as long as they want. I think this sympathetic and humane decision by him could well reassure the families and the community of how the inquiry will be carried out and hopefully also put the fire back in the public eye again and increase pressure on the Government to sort out the rehousing issues at long last.
