The GMB Union has the bright idea to take water from a Welsh reservoir ,which supplies Birmingham, to London and parts of the south east.
Many have not forgotten what happened to Capel Celyn .

Granny23 'How condescending'...really?
How does politely informing another punster to view something in another thread that may be of interest to them condescending?
If that us how your mind works, so be it, but that certainly was not the way I intended it.
I am not anti English, the thread title I chose was thoughtless , think because the other three countries of the U.K have problems with Westminster and untill devolution it was Westminster which controlled us . And that union chap really bugged me .
My nearest neighbour is Scotland Paddyann So you are talking rubbish ! If you really do hate the English (as it seems) why not just come out and say it?
My children/grandchildren have to pay university fees (yours don't).
I pay all prescription charges (you don't)
Plenty more examples too.... so who pays who?
.....and don't get my started on that sad woman sturgeon who is almost racist...... (she picked Iceland out in a sweep really???) anyone but England for the world cup eh? pathetic.
I happen to love Scotland and spend a lot of time North of the border but this anti-English thing is really beginning to grate !
Joelsnan How condescending! I am sure Paddyann knows more about the ins and outs of the Scottish Economy than someone who gets their information from the biased MSM.
Paddyann
Could I interest you in the current Brexit Regret it 2 thread where Allygran is currently eloquently discussing the current and historical state of the Scottish economy. It may enlighten you.
Now how would all you english ladies on here like to hand all your countries income to your nearest neighbour
my nearest neighbour is Wales and I don't mind at all, well perhaps not all - as long as Welsh education, Welsh health provision etc etc comes up to English standards.
Or better.
Because at the moment it is not.
At least Wales has the Royal Mint!
What I meant Annie is that you seem to think that you get the bum end of almost everything because you are in Wales.
Well we get it too, we just don’t blame everything on the fact that it’s because we’re in England.
It has just been pointed out to me (a query regarding another thread) that cancer drugs available to patients in England are not available to patients in Wales.
I had heard on our local news that cancer patients were moving to England so that they can obtain these drugs.
So a little water in exchange might be a good idea.
So yes, I think the Welsh do sometimes get the bum end of almost everything.
"The difference between a country and county is R" You are very wrong .I live in a country that has its OWN systems of Law and education ,its own church and its own identity .We have the oldest flag in the world ..The Saltire first flown in the 800's ,we have the most left leaning government on this Island and the most politically aware public .Sadly this COUNTRY has to hand over its earnings to its bigger neighbour and get pocket money back ..not EXACTLY a union..more a dictatorship. Now how would all you english ladies on here like to hand all your countries income to your nearest neighbour ...maybe France ? Or lets make it simpler...you give your household income to your neighbour at the end of the street and they give you back some of it and spend the rest on things THEY want.Does that float your boat?
Actually, I think it was Tony Blair's Government which privatised water - I voted for them believing that they would stop this.
Going back a few pages, I'm afraid, but you believe wrongly, Jalima. The water companies were privatised in 1989. I distinctly recall that there was a tory government in power then. You might have voted for Labour in the hope they would reverse this but the deed was done eight years previous to Blair coming to power..
Nah, too far south!
Annie?!!!!
Or Cardiff, sorry couldn’t resist it ?
I’ve long thought that Parliament, the Stock Exhange, Bank of England and all the civil service should be moved lock, stock and barrel to Manchester. Or Liverpool. More central. It would even everything out!
Exactly granny23
Governments should stop enabling big businesses to locate and expand in and around London . This would force them out and share the wealth around the country . They won’t of course . Instead they improve and expand infrastructure (that we all pay for) to enable the businesses to stay and expand in the capital and keep all the wealth in one place .
niggly ?, the idiot has no official authority , he is a union man. I wonder how he thinks the water will get from Mid Wales to the Cotswolds canals, people running to and fro with buckets of water
. Or pipes running through Offa’s Dyke , through Herefordshire to Gloucestershire, with water companies reputation of leaking pipes by the time the water got to Gloucestershire it would be a trickle ?
annie, I totally understand how angry you feel/felt at officialdom arrogantly telling you (Wales) what you can or can't do over water or anything else com to that, without so much as a 'by your leave.'! I feel the same at times with our somewhat overbearing local authority!! but I think most of us particularly where I live in Gloucestershire, feel nothing but friendship and good will towards Wales.??
Annuebach of course they did and the Welsh miners and Steelworkers contributed to the overall wealth of the U.K. But there are some suggestions around that England bled some of the other members of the U.K. dry and I have to counter this as far far from the truth.
Scotland and Wales never had industries Joelsnan ?
Paddyann. Do you consider Yorkshire is treated any better than you. It certainly is not nor is most of the North of England . Yorkshire has the same population as Scotland, it's industry helped to support Scotland. It has about the same number of MPs as Scotland (based upon population) and has far less of a say about what goes on here. You think you are being badly treated..come to the North of England and see what surfdom is really like.
Yes but we should be blaming our government policies instead of criticising and wanting to penalise ordinary people who live in populous regions. London generates more wealth than anywhere else and far from draining wealth from elsewhere hands it out to people in poorer areas. Maybe not enough and things should be spread around but don’t blame people for living where the work is. It would be much nicer and cheaper to live in Scotland or Wales than some parts of England, but many people have moved there for employment. Maybe that should not be the case, but don’t blame those people.
joelsnan I hear many people (on this and many other fora) from Yorkshire and other North of England areas, complaining bitterly about the inequalities that exist between North and South.
People in the poorer areas of the UK pay the same level of Income Tax, Vat, etc. as those in the more affluent areas, but see little benefit from those taxes, whereas all the big investments in infrastructure seem to be in the SE. People resent paying towards more road/rail etc improvements which never come near them.
Perhaps, if there were more investment in other areas of the UK, this would shift the emphasis from London, creating more employment and opportunities in the Midlands and North, instead of the current situation whereby London, the seat of power, is the magnet for Headquarters of banks, businesses, even Charities, which could easily, with modern technologies, be located elsewhere.
By the way WM stopped publishing those accounts after WW1 .There will still be accounts just hidden from view .
Simple Joelsnan our 59 MP's in Westminster have absolutely NO chance of getting anything through parliament when they are so outnumbered. Its just a sop to us ,a "let them think they are getting an opinion" watch WM live and SEE the disdain and sheer arrogance used towards our MP's.OUR elected representatives. The very fact that we have had Tory governments at all in the past 70 years when we have NEVER voted for them says it all.DEVOLVED power is power retained by WM ...we have power over just 17 % of our laws etc. Most of our taxes and yes WE pay tax too goes south.10% of every scheme in England is paid by Scotland that includes those things that we dont use or even see .Like London crossrail and London sewers ..like HS2 that doesn't come anywhere near us .Bitter ...me...your damn right I am .My country is used as a cash cow by the English parliament and has been for centuries.Check out the WM accounts from the late 19 and early 20th centuries when we got around 30% of our OWN income returned to us .The rest used by our "lords and masters " for their own projects !!
