Government resignations since autumn:
1 November 2017 - Fallon
8 November 2017 - Patel
20 December 2017 - Green
29 April 2018 - Rudd
8 January 2018 - Greening
8 July 2018 - Davis
There have been six resignations in 249 days. That’s one every six weeks

Just woken up to the news that the incompetent David Davis has resigned. Just as Brexit was all going so well? The useless Grayling should be next - how come he is still in post? Not to mention the awful foreign secretary. Interesting to watch develpments as the day wears on. The bookies and removal men will be busy.

As for causing offence - snowflakery raises its head again.

maryeliza54 Tue 10-Jul-18 09:19:33

So what niggly - we all have to put up with all sorts of irritating posts on GN and I actually find it very irritating that Grandad is so often the target on here.

Grandad1943 Tue 10-Jul-18 09:19:30

No, I have never claimed to know everything to anybody Jalima1108 However, I do know that England are the only one of the four home nations to actually reach the finals of the world cup.

So eat your hearts out Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

We England fans always expect cheap shots from the other broken hearted home nation losers.

nigglynellie Tue 10-Jul-18 09:18:27

and actually causes offence!

nigglynellie Tue 10-Jul-18 09:15:15

Grandad you seem as if you can't miss an opportunity to have a poke at annie, first the Labour party and now using Wales. It's (variation on a theme) on a par with paddyanns comments about vile England and in case you are unaware, is very very irritating, and that's putting it mildly!

Anniebach Tue 10-Jul-18 08:25:26

It was just a matter of days before the little englanders started, think I will join the ‘anyone but England’ club. ?

Jalima1108 Mon 09-Jul-18 23:29:23

his brother is called Rhodri - can't get more Welsh than that

Jalima1108 Mon 09-Jul-18 23:28:49

Ryan Giggs is Welsh Grandad and played for Wales.
I thought everyone knew that - even non-football fans.

Oh dear, there was me thinking you knew everything .....

muffinthemoo Mon 09-Jul-18 22:56:15

Ryan Giggs English???

A generation of England managers wished that was the case, but he proudly represented his native Wales

Iam64 Mon 09-Jul-18 21:19:15

muffinthemoo- I was so irritated, as usual, watching Reece Smug interviewed earlier. I agree, he should run for leadership instead of effecting not to want to. The clip of the interview I watched, saw him defending Flashman Bozzer.

Mind you - we should be very careful what we wish for. If a leadership contest triggers and election, we could end up with Mr Smug as PM. That would be too awful to contemplate. Let's hope the Labour Party gets its collective act together

Anniebach Mon 09-Jul-18 21:13:22

Do leave the England snears at Wales out of this thread please. Go post on the football thread please

Anniebach Mon 09-Jul-18 21:10:13

Grandad 1943, I don’t watch or care about football but even so I do know there is no British Isles team in the World Cup.

Grandad1943 Mon 09-Jul-18 21:07:49

In the above we have bequeathed Ryan Giggs to Wales as their head coach, one of England's finest.

I think he is English.....isn't he,?

muffinthemoo Mon 09-Jul-18 21:04:19

Am I the only one who thinks if JRM wants to set the entire policy and tone of the Conservative party, he should man up and run for the leadership?

It might be the echo of my old headmistress in my heart, but in all walks of life I absolutely cannot stand carping from the sidelines whilst refusing to try and take any responsibility to alter the course of events.

Grandad1943 Mon 09-Jul-18 21:03:50

Iam64, yes it's only England that has taken these "British Isles" to the heights of the World Cup final stages (its coming home).

However, we have bequeathed one of England's finest players to show Wales how the beautiful game should be played as their head coach.

Perhaps in four years time they too will be alongside England (being the trophy holders) as qualifiers in Qatar.

Seen on Twitter

The worry is that without David Davis Brexit negotiations could grind to a start

grin

Anniebach Mon 09-Jul-18 21:00:07

The other three countries need hope too Iam , no offence taken, just the usual reminder it is not all about England

Anniebach Mon 09-Jul-18 20:57:25

Labour MP’s sneaking through the back door and being told they must not be seen ? And it hasn’t been leaked !

Iam64 Mon 09-Jul-18 20:47:04

Annie, yes, Brexit affects Wales as much as England. I'm not sure the footie does though- no offence meant to Wales, Scotland or N Ireland.

Grandad1943 Mon 09-Jul-18 20:41:46

Annie there are many entrances to 10 Downing Street for those who are told not to be seen. In that, many commentators are saying tonight that Theresa Mays meeting with Labour and Liberal MPs has been held.

In the above I feel is why she addressed the Conservative 1922 committee with such confidence and why JRM made the statement he did later in regard to the Tory party splitting.

Anniebach Mon 09-Jul-18 20:19:21

Iam , it affects Wales as much as England

Iam64 Mon 09-Jul-18 20:08:44

What a shambles. I agree with those who say DDavies never felt to be on top of his role. Boris is totally untrustworthy, self seeking and has humiliated this country so many times in his role as FS. Let's hope any chance he might have had of Leadership have ben finally buried following his latest shenanigans.
I echo suzied's comments, that TM would have done far better to work on the basis of what we had, that is a fairly narrow vote in support of Leave. Having campaigned to Remain, she tried to placate her right wingers and as could have been predicted, failed.
Thank goodness for Gareth Southgate and his team. Team players, working hard and giving the country a bit of hope at last.

varian Mon 09-Jul-18 19:43:55

Lib Dem MPs will be calling on the government to extend Article 50 today. Extending Article 50 will ensure enough time is available to pass a law for, and then hold a vote on, the final say on the deal. Or if the government insist on pushing on with the negotiations, it will buy some more time for real talks to take place.

Anniebach Mon 09-Jul-18 19:40:50

The cameras have been in Downing Street all day, strange they didn’t catch a glimpse of just one Labour MP going into No 10

Ginny42 Mon 09-Jul-18 19:34:35

Agree with varian above.

Good job they're 'strong and stable' eh, what would 'weak and shambolic' look like I wonder?

DD never once appeared to me to be in control of his brief. He was embarrassing at joint statement press briefings, looking anywhere but at the audience and not seeming to have grasped the importance of his role. He really should not have accepted the role in the first place, but to resign now after agreeing at Chequers tells us a lot about his character.

Likewise, BJ the showman who frequently embarrassed this nation with his inept quips has never appeared statesman like to me. No loss there then.

Please don't let this shambles be the pre-curser to removing TM and putting either of them in as caretaker.

Wonder what the talks in No 10 with Labour reps is about.
