He has won his case against the BBC. Let’s hope the media learns from this .

Eglantine21 Wed 18-Jul-18 19:15:45

I lived in Surrey in the late 1960s Jura.

I’m not sure what you are saying you KNOW, as opposed to repeating rumours, because your post has been removed.

I think I know what you are insinuating. But it’s easy to drop hints and spread gossip.

If you actually KNOW something with evidence why not go public. You can’t be sued if what you say you know is verifiable.

If its not, well, it’s just nasty.

Anniebach Wed 18-Jul-18 19:14:50

I lived in Wales in the late sixties

Anniebach Wed 18-Jul-18 19:08:59

Did he not have power in America ?

jura2 Wed 18-Jul-18 19:08:44

That is fine Annie, and I won't say anything else either.
You ddidn't live in Surrey in the late 60s, did you?

paddyann Wed 18-Jul-18 19:06:49

Rape isn't about sexAnnie its about power and Weinstein was showing her he could get to her wherever she was ...thats why he travelled to Liverpool after her .

Anniebach Wed 18-Jul-18 18:37:42

I prefer not to comment on this case with you Jura, sorry

jura2 Wed 18-Jul-18 18:21:31

There is a huge difference between being gay, and liking young underage boys. Not making any allegations about anyone- just saying it is very different. I personally don't mind at all about the sexual orientation of anyone- but I would be very concerned about the latter. Whomever it is.

Anniebach Wed 18-Jul-18 17:52:38

It was only the BBC that had a helicopter hovering over the house filming the police as they arrived, only the police could have tipped off the BBC .

I have no idea and don’t care if he is gay, I do care that anyone can be publicly named with no evidence , no charges.

Have forgotten the name of the American film producer , Harvey ? , when the accusations started that second rate actress told the press he hunted her down to Liverpool and raped her. With all the women he worked with in America why on earth would he bother to go to Liverpool for any woman.

"The police have to investigate but naming the person is wrong, mud sticks "
I agree, Annie. I also thought it was illegal? Influences the court proceedings?
What happened to innocent until proved guilty?

Smileless2012 Wed 18-Jul-18 16:37:28

Wonderful newssmile. Mr. S. and I saw him in concert last year mainly because we wanted to show our support. He talked briefly about the whole sordid episode and was still clearly distressed by it.

Nonnie Wed 18-Jul-18 16:15:45

I think you are right gilly, why justthe BBC and not all the media?

gillybob Wed 18-Jul-18 16:11:18

It makes me wonder whether someone in the police were selling news scoops and they got this one horribly wrong . I wonder how much this was worth?

jura2 Wed 18-Jul-18 16:05:52

au contraire- I am surprised none of the late 60s 'gossip' has not come up to surface, as we expected it to.
Will say no more, for reasons stated by Merlot.

Nonnie Wed 18-Jul-18 15:59:15

What Jura said is exactly what I was referring to, mud sticks and it encourages all sorts of people to say they knew in the past. Although I am sure what we have read about Jimmy Saville is true some of the people who have come out and said they knew it was going on are simpley fantasising. I spent a considerable amount of time in Stoke Mandeville Hospital and I can assure you that they talked about JS as if he were a saint.

Why the nit-picking about whether it was a woman or a man? I just don't understand why anyone cares or why anyone feels the need to trip people up on this site. I see many spelling mistakes and typos but would not be so rude as to detract from the thread and say so.

Anniebach Wed 18-Jul-18 15:45:45

merlot, what Jura said cannot be true ,

Anniebach Wed 18-Jul-18 15:44:37

Jura, uncalled for, there has been no arrest, no charge and some love to make out they are in the know, wink wink, nudge nudge.

Homosexuality was legal in the late sixties, are you saying he was still living at home when he was in his late twenties? If as your informants claim he was sexually active with Boys in the late sixties

Not forgetting his career was well established in the late fifties .

merlotgran Wed 18-Jul-18 15:42:19

I'd be careful what you write about CR, jura. Gossip of that nature can be libellous.

kittylester Wed 18-Jul-18 15:14:32

There is an argument that says publicising a case encourages other victims to come forward rather than thinking they were the only one.

This happened with a gp in our area.

The police have to investigate but naming the person is wrong, mud sticks .

Ilovecheese Wed 18-Jul-18 13:19:20

Because nonnie referred to women who make false allegations and women who get dumped.

Oldwoman70 Wed 18-Jul-18 13:12:14

When an accusation is made the police have to investigate, however, in this case I can't see why it was necessary for the BBC to have a helicopter hovering outside filming the police carrying out the search through the windows.

I heard a BBC spokesperson saying this was a blow to the public right to know but they could have reported there was an investigation without the need to film it.

I am pleased Cliff won the case, except of course the fine will be paid out of the licence fee. Does anyone know what happened to the reporter/producer responsible for the invasion of privacy?

Luckygirl Wed 18-Jul-18 12:52:35

It was shocking that the police tipped off the media about their raid on his home when he was abroad. The BBC had a helicopter there to film it all.

I think that heads should roll in the police department.

Anniebach Wed 18-Jul-18 12:49:32

I agree Nonnie, male or female no difference .

Nonnie Wed 18-Jul-18 12:45:26

Ilovecheese I have no idea if it was a woman or not but why is that relevant? Surely a false accuser should not get away with it?
