I do detect quite a bit of 'green eyed monster' perhaps?

Uncalled for, jura. You, as all of us are on this forum, know perfectly well of Maw's circumstances in respect of her DH's illness last year. You've often accused others of "hitting below the belt" in their remarks. And your comment was a very low blow. Shame on you for that.

petra Sun 22-Jul-18 12:48:58

*jura2
Did you read the comments? Probably not
If you had you would find that the vast majority of 5,902 commentators consider it a load of shite.
I think we can all agree that that is a lot of comments.

MawBroon Sun 22-Jul-18 12:45:56

^ I do detect quite a bit of 'green eyed monster' perhaps^

No you don’t, a despicable suggestion in the light of my husband’s illness and death, if it were not so ridiculous, but hardly surprising given the level you have sunk to.

MawBroon Sun 22-Jul-18 12:42:57

Given that you seem to read the Sun and the Daily Mil, Jura how about trying what might be more impartial sources, the FT or Independent for instance.

MawBroon Sun 22-Jul-18 12:41:29

Frankly having lived through periods of being very hard up when Paw had his transplant and having even made redundant so no sick pay or benefits of any sort and then seeing his pension disappear in the 2008/9 crash, I suspect my sympathy for cancelled round the world trips and new kitchens or bathrooms might have been lukewarm at best grin

MissAdventure Sun 22-Jul-18 12:40:47

How do you know which newspapers leavers read and trust?!

jura2 Sun 22-Jul-18 12:38:32

Oh yes, we cancelled the world trip too - again, it is not important at all, plenty to see right on our doorstep where we can self-drive and self-cater at very little cost. Going to Italy in September, SW France in October- then Slovenia and Croatia next year, and Corsica next year. That is not 'tough' not at all. We were invited to OZ, Tasmania and NZ - but instead our cousins are coming to us and we will take them to Tuscany with us instead. That is no hardship at all- even if a shame. Others will have to do without basics, and find themselves in very difficult, and worse, situations- with their papers, basic needs and health care. I would not dream of complaining. I do detect quite a bit of 'green eyed monster' perhaps?

Much better to quote from papers that Leavers read and trust, Maw.

MawBroon Sun 22-Jul-18 12:36:42

Are you suggesting I planned a round the world trip?
If only.
In the three years before Paw died last November the only places he went were the Royal Free Hospital in London and I cared for him 24/7, unable to leave him for more than a couple of hours at most to pop to the supermarket.
Or are you saying I responded “Tough” to somebody else planning a Round the world trip?
If so your memory must be very different to mine.

petra Sun 22-Jul-18 12:36:37

MaizieD
Mine must be impaired as well, as I recall it was a kitchen and a trip.

MaizieD Sun 22-Jul-18 12:31:49

The clarity of your memory might be somewhat impaired, MawBroon. I remember the abandonment of plans for a round the world trip or something similar.

To which the sympathetic response was 'tough'.

Which, as a then newcomer to Gnet, rather put me off Leavers from the word go.

MawBroon Sun 22-Jul-18 12:29:16

You really plumb the depths with your reading material Jura!

Haven’t you heard of the broadsheets?

jura2 Sun 22-Jul-18 12:27:51

I did not complain, just stated that the tanking pound had real effects on people. We did a fabulous bathroom for guests a couple of years back, before the vote. The kitchen is definitely cancelled- does not matter to me, at all. Just an illustration. Great house, great place - kitchen is irrelevant to me.

So, the Sun is not good enough- so here is the Brexiters's favourite, DM today:

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5978391/How-no-deal-Brexit-affect-road-tailbacks-medicine-alcohol-pets-orchestras.html

MawBroon Sun 22-Jul-18 12:23:12

Oh that is a little disingenuous, Jura I clearly remember the complaining about cancelling the planned new kitchen or was it bathroom?

jura2 Sun 22-Jul-18 12:19:45

Indeed Maizie. I remember twice saying 'ok I did it' - to stop the stalemate and everyone being punished - when of course I was not the culprit, and the teacher knew full well.

But in this case, I don't think that would work.
As said, we in particular are so lucky to have double nationality- so will be much less affected than most- does not stop us caring, au contraire. Some people are in a desperate situation and it is causing much stress, heartache, worry, and even illness.

When I mentioned the severe loss of income we have experienced- it was not to complain, but to illustrate the reality on the ground. Most have it much much worse than us.

Grandad1943 Sun 22-Jul-18 12:02:01

petra, between 44 and 60% of Britains total trade is with other EU countries dependant on how the figures are calculated. To replace and relocate even 10% of that will be a huge operation for our manufacturers and our transport logistics operators.

That as I stated cannot be achieved overnight, and in that the real fear is held.

MaizieD Sun 22-Jul-18 11:54:27

I could just wish, petra that the experience of the chaos could be targeted to Leave voters only.

Unfortunately we Remainers are like the children in a class which is, as a whole, punished for the actions of a few because the culprits can't be identified. Innocent victims.

petra Sun 22-Jul-18 11:46:17

MaizieD
I find many things happening in the world today 'horrifying'
But certainly not the 'assumed chaos' when we leave the eu.

Grandad1943 Sun 22-Jul-18 11:45:26

Apologies should be "many months" above not "any months"

Must be this malware "grin" bug Google is talking about. :-)

Grandad1943 Sun 22-Jul-18 11:41:20

Petra, Britain trading with America or elsewhere is on a totally different footing to the trading with the EU. With the European Union, we have developed over the last forty years a platform that brings and sends commerce throughout the whole of Europe using rapid frictionless road and rail transport systems.

The above cannot be changed overnight, for re-equipping the whole transport industry will take any months if not years. That is why they are undoubtedly speaking of a State of Emergency being declared on a no deal Brexit. :-(

Alexa Sun 22-Jul-18 11:28:34

Experience of life causes traumas some of which change a person. I don't disagree with anyone. I claim only that 'mental health ' relates to some criterion or other. Clinical mental illness is a set of criteria and practical measure for helping people to be free of emotional pain and not die of it.

Old people who have lived a bit and got experience are not necessarily damaged, but altered.

I like individuals to be individuals and not be ashamed to be different, including not be ashamed if they have suffered losses or failures.

Grandad1943 Sun 22-Jul-18 11:26:11

And David Davis stated on the day article 50 was signed "these will be the easiest negotiations ever concluded".

petra Sun 22-Jul-18 11:25:12

From Bob Stewert, what he would say to the eu.
"Look, we've tried to get an agreement in this country on trying to be as kind as we could to the European Union.
It's clear it's very difficult, so let's be quiet clear to you.
We are leaving the eu on the 29th march next year.
We will actually leave the eu and go back to WTO rules.
We will actually deal with the eu in the same way as we did before we were a member of the eu and in the same way, incidentally, as we deal with American imports into this country at the moment, and other parts of the world.
And actually, that's it"

MawBroon Sun 22-Jul-18 11:22:38

Your reasons for reading the Sun must remain your own Jura ????

Grandad1943 Sun 22-Jul-18 11:22:33

Apparently, it is being reported on Sky News that Britain will have to declare a state of emergency if a no deal Brexit happens.

Report(s) seems to be coming from government sources, not sure who?

jura2 Sun 22-Jul-18 11:20:34

I chose The Sun for clear reasons - if I had quoted the Guardian or the Independent, you would have said what?
