I think it's a great shame that we are leaving the EU but, as MOnica said way up thread, we have had these doom laden scenarios previously and we are all still here.

The truth is, like it or not, the vote was 'Leave' so Leave we shall and we will all survive. So please just stop with the passive aggressive, down beat, hysterical posting.

I don't think there's any setiment involved here, it's plain and simple economics.

Elegran, I believe there are many throughout the UK that voted for Brexit but now do no acknowledge that they did so.

As the problems and cost of leaving the EU have become clear and public opinion has swung against those that are seen to have brought us all into this desperate situation, the attractions of being seen to be on the "correct side" are overwhelming and avoids personal criticism.

I do hope that Grandad1943 has written to all the cabinet ministers, advisers, MPs etc who confirmed the Brexit decision, and who have influence over those negotiating Brexit deals, and is not just wasting his ammunition machine-gunning random Gransnet members on the subject. Random in that he even seems to be demanding explanations and contrition from some who didn't even vote for Brexit.

Arla imports much of the milk it uses in the products it makes on a daily JIT basis from the EU - so those goods not quite entirely British made! The U.K. does not produce enough milk for its needs.

GillT57 I think a fair few of the posters you accuse of being in the Brexit camp did in fact vote Remain - but perhaps not given to hysteria and pessimism, rather they are hoping for the best outcome but are prepared, in spirit, for any eventuality.

Did anyone see a programme some time back Re sanctions on Russia. Hundreds of Russians saw this as an opportunity to make the food stuffs that were being denied them by the eu and are now making a very good living.

^Looking for truly British butter brands, the biggest ones are Countrylife (Dairy Crest) and Anchor (Arla) and today most retailer own label butter is made with British milk, either through Muller or Gower View Foods in Wales.
This has been helped by Muller’s investment in a £17 million butter processing plant in Market Drayton, which, in 2013 started producing butter for food processing. In 2015 Muller launched its first retail butter packs from the same plant. Made with 100% British cream from Red Tractor farms the butter is sold as branded Muller butter as well as own label butter.^

but no worries, and yes, like the proverbial little Red Hen in another favourite stories I used to read to our DCs - I have planned for all eventualities, and I did it all by myself (well with DH) ...no Schadenfreude from us, we are out of there and can cope with any loss of income, as we have everything else. Our DDs and GCs have every door and option open to them ... it does not stop me for being more than extremely upset (does not make me hysterical at all) re what is happening to the UK - of which I have been a citizen since 1972.

If we do not export those products they could be sold in the UK - at least we will all have a good supply of whisky and chocolates.
Coupled with the amount of food wasted at the moment, I reckon we'll survive.

We do trade with countries other than the EU and they and the EU need our goods as much as we need theirs.

If push comes to shove and as a result of leaving the EU the whole world shuns us and all trade to everywhere is stopped we will undoubtedly all starve to death, if we do not freeze.

Remember the Millenium bug, flu pandemics that would sweep the world, Old Mother Shipton's forecasts that the world would end in 1600 or some such.

If and when disaster strikes we will deal with it, but I am not holding my breath.
