Brexit has not yet happened, and there can be no certainty that it ever will.

Eurostar trains would be turned back from Europe if Britain crashes out of the EU without a deal, a leading French minister has warned.

Nathalie Loiseau, the minister for European affairs, said it was “correct” that both trains and planes from the UK would be barred without an exit agreement.

“If we reach no agreement this is what will happen, among other things,” Ms Loiseau told an event in London.

The warning comes one week after a secret Treasury document acknowledged there were questions about “rail access to the EU” if there is a no-deal Brexit.

Sophie Walker, head of the Women’s Equality Party, told its annual conference in Kettering that women had almost been sidelined from the Brexit vote in June 2016, urging the party to back calls for a new referendum. She vowed to work with parties across the bloc to produce a “feminist manifesto for Europe” and would encourage women from across Europe to stand on a united platform.

Criticising the state of British politics, Ms Walker said: “We have been left with a choice between two parties, neither of which has a plan that commands support at home or abroad. That means the most likely scenario is that we crash out of the European Union without any deal at all – which would be disastrous for women."

^JRM certainty is not a gullible innumerate fool, he is a highly intelligent manipulator, an elitist who thinks most of the population are peasants, cattle to exploited and slaughtered^

Neatly summed up there Diane54. It mystifies me why anyone would ever think that JRM or BJ are to be trusted or depended upon. I do think however, that even the most guillible of the electorate do not fall for the 'good old Boris' act anymore......we can but hope.

Jalima1108 Wed 05-Sept-18 15:00:11

oh dear, you don't think he'll be interested in turning my 2s 6d into ten bob then?
sad

Diana54 Wed 05-Sept-18 07:24:38

JRM certainty is not a gullible innumerate fool, he is a highly intelligent manipulator, an elitist who thinks most of the population are peasants, cattle to exploited and slaughtered. Definitely not PM material or even ministerial.
His only interest is creating volatility so that he can make money on the finance market.

I can understand why some women would find that wealth and power attractive but sorry girls you are way out of your depth.

Diana54 Wed 05-Sept-18 07:02:53

Grandad. A pretty accurate description of what uncertainty means to a business, you just don't know what the rules are going to be next year.
I would have expected that exchange rate would have been added to the factors involved, lower sterling will undoubtedly mitigate any tariffs, quite a few businesses will benefit from lower sterling, regrettably consumers won't.

Jalima1108 Tue 04-Sept-18 20:39:18

I could ask him where I can invest my 2s 6d wisely though.

petra Tue 04-Sept-18 20:36:48

Jalima
Definitely not Prime Minister material grin

Grandad1943 Tue 04-Sept-18 20:32:19

But as i have shown in my above post, we can all see what is coming now.

Jalima1108 Tue 04-Sept-18 20:31:15

I'd have dinner with him but prefer that he doesn't become PM!

petra Tue 04-Sept-18 20:28:00

How can you not love Jacob Rees Mogg: I'd have him at a dinner party any day of the week, imagine the great conversation you could have grin
And btw, the last time I voted conservative was 1979. My excuse is : none of us knew what was coming shock

We very often we speak on GN of Brexit in terms if its overall effect on the UK. However, today I was speaking to one of our companies customers who stated just what all the uncertainty really means for so many businesses in Britain.

His business is concerned with supplying and installing all the traffic cones, road studs, white lining and signage when major roadworks are to take place on Britains motorways and trunk roads. In the last few years they have put a huge effort into gaining the above type work in the Irish Republic. A considerable amount of the equipment and supplies for the above come from a Belgian manufacturer as there are few manufacturers of such specialised equipment in the UK.

However, the Belgian supplier has stated that he cannot quote accurately to supply British customers beyond next March as that company cannot know what any tariffs may be on goods entering Britain following Brexit. The road haulage charges would also be unknown should there be delays at the channel ports.

Of course, all British companies who deal with organisations in the EU are now beginning to face the above problems due to the ongoing uncertainties of Brexit. However, our customer is stating that he expects all his Irish Republic work that they have built up will be lost to his competitors based in the republic as they will not have the problems of tariffs and transport being they will still be in the EU.

Is the above one of the problems that David Davis stated that “Britain will have to work its way through for the Brexit gains”. I am sure that will be great consolation to our customer in his problems.

Is this “taking back control” ?

If I may ask Nicenanny- what is it in particular you like about JRM?

Or are you his nanny?

varian Tue 04-Sept-18 15:47:11

You and I may well have a say in the matter if we are permitted to make an informed choice when the "deal", if there is one, is known.

The GMB union has called for a fresh Brexit referendum because the promises made during the first vote are “not the reality we are facing”. Britain’s third biggest union delivered a huge boost to the campaign for a “public vote” on Theresa May’s exit terms by throwing its weight behind the push.

It will pile pressure on Jeremy Corbyn to switch Labour’s official policy in favour of a further referendum, ahead of an expected showdown at the party’s annual conference this month. Up to 200 local Labour branches will attempt to make a further Brexit referendum official party policy at the conference in Liverpool, starting on 23 September.

Mr Corbyn hopes to force the prime minister into another general election if her Brexit deal is rejected by parliament this winter, or if she fails to strike any agreement at all. However, the party has been edging closer to backing a referendum, with both John McDonnell, the shadow chancellor, and Keir Starmer, the shadow Brexit secretary, insisting it must remain an option.

The issue will also be debated by the union movement in Manchester next week, at the TUC conference.

The Independent has launched its #FinalSay campaign to demand that voters are given a voice on the final Brexit deal.

It was a tongue in cheek remark Varian. I think you need to chill out a bit, all this ranting and raving about Brexit as if you or I have any influence over the matter and yes I do like Jacob Rees Mogg and I am not the only one.

"The Tory Brextremist-in-chief Jacob Rees-Mogg has taken to Twitter to demonstrate what a gullible and innumerate fool he is."

He retweeted rubbish from the Sun. "Perhaps the most shocking aspect of all is the disgraceful mathematical illiteracy of the whole thing. Take the butter as an example. If the butter costs £1 originally but has a 50% tariff applied on it, then the price rises to £1.50, not to £2. If the price is £2 after the imposition of a 50% tariff, then the original price was £1.33, not £1.

The same goes for all of the other calculations too. Every single one of them have been made by someone so innumerate they'd fail Year 6 maths. If the Brexiteers are so innumerate that they can't even cope with simple mathematical operations that my 9 year old son can understand, then who on earth would trust their judgement on an issue as complex as Brexit?

When it comes to Rees-Mogg actually sharing this nonsense, once again we're drawn back into the age old debate of whether the Tories have resorted to this lamentable propaganda because they're thick enough to believe it themselves, or because despite knowing that it's absolute reality-reversing and innumerate trash, they're such arrogant elitists they see the general public as such a bunch of gullible halfwits that we'll simply believe it without conducting any critical analysis whatever.

There is a case to be made that because Ress-Mogg is this type of arrogant elitist because he once described people who attended state schools as "potted plants". If he's arrogant enough to dismiss 93% of the UK population as "potted plants" he's easily arrogant enough to deliberately spread such brazen misinformation. But in this case I think it's sheer stupidity. The man has seen something that triggers his confirmation bias, and instead of subjecting it to even the most rudimentary of critical analysis, he's just tweeted it out to his followers."

Is there any point in patiently explanning how statistical sampling works to someone who asks whether 2.6 million people were interviewed.?

It shows a startlingly poor level of functional numeracy.

MaizieD Tue 04-Sept-18 14:05:19

My post wasn't saying that it potentially could not be done but it currently is not a legal option and would require the EU 27 to review and amend A50 to enable this,

That's not what Lord Kerr says, Joelsnan. did you follow my link? It's a perfectly legal option.

Nicenanny3 Tue 04-Sept-18 13:54:05

Why have 2.6 million people had a personal interview, fake news.
