The Last Days of Mrs May?

So 50 MPs met to discuss getting rid of her, should we be counting the days? Or will she simply stay because there's no other suitable candidate and no one wants a poisoned chalice?

If labour turned away from the far left , had a leader who didn’t sit on the fence and worked for all we would have the success of 1997.

They will leave Mrs May in until it is over bar the shouting. That way she can be blamed for negotiating the exit strategy when it all goes pear shaped. Then we will have a Tory gallant, who will be white, public school, male, step into the breach and save us. Or something like that. If Labour could get their act together they would be walking all over them.

There is no holiday in October, the house sits again after the first week in October

paddyann Wed 12-Sept-18 23:49:50

I already said on another thread I'd heard that all Tory and Labour MP's have been told to cancel October holidays ...thats sounds like a snap election to me .

Diana54 "TM will see it through"?!! What in heaven's name can you base that statement on? With her so called Chequers plan she will commit the UK to continuing to pay continuing dues to the EU, but with none of the benefits nor the voting rights of membership.
What she will "see through" is that, in just a few months, the people of the UK will be herded off the edge of the cliff like mindless sheep.
We need a people's vote on this. The electorate has changed during the time TM has been dithering.

Heseltine with Thatcher,

M0nica Wed 12-Sept-18 21:43:19

No supporter of the Conservatives, but I see nothing happening that threatens her. Sure, a small group of Conservative are talking of the need to replace her but I cannot remember a time when the Conservatives didn't have a small coterie of MPs trying to unseat their leader, whoever he or she might be.

Diana54 Wed 12-Sept-18 20:13:25

Whatever the outcome of this Brexit mess that Cameron left the country I am pretty sure TM will see it through. I'm sure none of the other Tories have the guts to challenge her, if they did it probably would not change the outcome one jot.

It is clear that Barnier wants to continue negotiating with the existing team and is making encouraging comments to bolster TM at home. A new leader would mean a new team which would sink any chance of agreement, the EU want an agreement, albeit one that leaves them pulling the strings. That is the problem, I don't believe Parliament will accept a deal with strings, so MPs vote the deal out and still nobody challenges May - let her hold on to the poison chalice and take us out.

There is one other reason that "strings" will sink the deal, the EU will want a guarantee that the UK will not start the whole process again in 5 yrs time or even 25 yrs

We either need another GE or a Peoples' vote on whatever terms we are being presented with.

The Leasvrs like to claim they all knew what they were voting for. How could that possibly be true? Even now no-one knows what brexit could mean.

Some leave voters believed Daniel Hannan when he said "no-one is talking about leaving the single matket"

Some believed the lie on the bus.

Some thought we would be like Switzerland or Norway.

None of them voted to be worse off - or for their children and grandchildren to be cast out of the EU and be deprived of all the advantages of EU citizenship, just so JRM could continue to profit from having an office in Ireland and the nasty tax dodging billionaires who orchestrated the brexit vote could laugh all the way to their tax havens.

The Remain voters did know exactly what they were voting for and they are the true majority of UK citizens whose opinions are being sidelined bu the vested interests of those who do not act in the best interests of our country.

Never mind BrendafromBristol. AnniefromAberfan has the Leader for Welsh Labour election to concentrate on

Jalima1108 Wed 12-Sept-18 18:38:53

We need a General Election
Not another one

Jalima1108 Wed 12-Sept-18 18:37:47

Maw grin

Any suggestions trisher?
Someone strong and stable perhaps

Jane10 Wed 12-Sept-18 18:17:52

A wonderful world would be lovely but exactly how to achieve it has proved elusive since the dawn of time. We are where we are and must do the best we can with what we have.

Chewbacca Wed 12-Sept-18 18:05:07

A change of mindset?
A change of outlook?
A change of attitude?
A change of goals to aim for?
A change in that a political party actually works together to make positive changes for the better?

Any/all of these would make a nice change.

OldMeg Wed 12-Sept-18 16:08:23

A change of something is definitely required!

Jane10 Wed 12-Sept-18 16:03:09

A change of leader is not required either.

rosie1959 Wed 12-Sept-18 16:00:27

Agree we need stability through Brexit
A general election is not required for a change of leader

yggdrasil Wed 12-Sept-18 15:23:47

I disagree. There are a lot more problems than Brexit with the economy of this country, and the welfare, NHS and education budgets to name but a few.
Brexit is going to make things a lot worse, but the sooner something is started to fix these problems the better.
The longer the cuts and austerity go on, the harder it is going to be to reverse them.

Riverwalk Wed 12-Sept-18 15:22:21

I wonder if any Tory MP is brave enough to throw his/her hat in the ring?

Chewbacca Wed 12-Sept-18 15:14:50

We need stability to see us through Brexit, not the palaver of a general election.

Jane10 Wed 12-Sept-18 13:59:41

A general election would make things 100 times worse!!

Anniebach Wed 12-Sept-18 13:27:05

Not a general election in the middle of this brexit war please

yggdrasil Wed 12-Sept-18 13:23:10

We need a General Election. Brexit is one problem, but we need a completely new attitude to start to fix the cuts and losses due to austerity

sodapop Wed 12-Sept-18 13:11:16

I agree GrannyGravy all of them seem to be too busy furthering their own ambitions to be concerned about the country. TM is beleaguered on all sides.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 12-Sept-18 13:10:03

Oops ?They have been around so long forgot that one!!
