The Last Days of Mrs May?

So 50 MPs met to discuss getting rid of her, should we be counting the days? Or will she simply stay because there's no other suitable candidate and no one wants a poisoned chalice?

jura2 Tue 02-Oct-18 11:57:06

If you think that woud be acceptable, then it would be just as acceptable to agree to the Falklands join Argentina, or Gibraltar, Spain.

jura2 Tue 02-Oct-18 11:54:55

You can't force NI to unite with the Republic if they don't want to - simple as that.

As said on another thread, the Irish border will probably be the last straw that breaks the very sick camels back - 'how long will it be until Brexit collapses under its own impossibility'.

Anniebach Tue 02-Oct-18 11:48:28

Northern Ireland voted 53.8% remain 44.2% leave

How come the remain wishes are important in N.I. But the

leave wishes not important in England and Wales

MaizieD Tue 02-Oct-18 11:29:59

The figures I quoted, GG were of people who voted. those who didn't may be presumed to be apathetic.

I'm not contesting the fact that May was elected but I'll remind you that she only remained in power by bribing the DUP. ~A party which does not represent the views of the Northern Irish as far as Brexit is concerned.

I didn't say that the UK is a totalitarian state. I merely said that that was what you seemed to be describing (and wanting?)

We won't get anywhere in negotiations because the UK is demanding the impossible.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 02-Oct-18 11:00:47

MaizieD she was elected, the Conservatives won the election admittedly with a decreased majority. You do not know the political opinions of those who chose not to vote in the election.

We are in unprecedented political times, unless the H of P stop all the backbiting and childish actions (both sides of the house), we will not get anywhere with the negotiations with Tusk, Juncker et al!!!

Just for the record, the UK is not a totalitarian state!!!

MaizieD Tue 02-Oct-18 10:42:36

I feel it's about time her party, H of P and the country should get behind her.

I'm afraid that democracy doesn't work like that, GG. What you describe is more like a totalitarian state.

Tories vote share in the 2017 was 42%. Which means that more than half of the electorate didn't vote for them (58%). In a democracy that 58% are entitled to oppose the government; there is absolutely no obligation on them to 'get behind' it at all.

jura2 Tue 02-Oct-18 10:26:37

The UK already had exceptional terms- no other EU country had- kept the £ and no Schengen.

jura2 Tue 02-Oct-18 10:25:20

Totally agree Luckylegs that comments about her appearance are really OOO - and that she is a really hard working woman.

However, I disagree about the EU wanting to humiliate us - and that nothing put forward would have suited them.

Our Government, right from the start (and what a waste of time and disaster was the choice of David I have not got a clue Davis for the job- who wasted months and months of valuable time) - put forward solutions that clearly wanted cherry picking - eg the same rights but without the same obligations- have our cake and eat it style.

It is absolutely clear and evident- that this could never be acceptable to the EU- if they agree to cherry picking- then Switzerland (who has been trying for years) and others would want the same. They would probably agreed to a Norway/Switzerland style deal (you know just like the one Farage and others said would be great 'they are rich, they are happy- what is not to like') - but on the same terms

. pay to be in single market
. don't have a say
. abide with free movement
. abide with all EU rules for exports

What they have proposed, again and again, in one form or other, like Checkers is have all the rights, none of the constraints or regulations. It is just not right, fair, or possible. Nothing to do with humiliation. Just plain common sense.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 02-Oct-18 09:16:46

Totally agree Luckylegs, we often see the word democracy in these political threads. TM was elected democratically as our PM and during this difficult time, I feel it's about time her party, H of P and the country should get behind her.

Anniebach Tue 02-Oct-18 08:57:03

I agree, well said Luckylegs.

lemongrove Tue 02-Oct-18 08:51:26

Well said Luckylegs ??

Luckylegs9 Tue 02-Oct-18 07:07:32

Who one could have had a more difficult time than Theressa, opposition at every corner and obstruction, there would never have been an agreement with Europe, they wanted to humiliate us, nothing put forward would have suited them. She has been hounded because, although incredibly hardworking and really wanting to put out country first, despite being originally a remainer, the press and politians, have been cruel in their comments of her physical imperfections, she is not charming enough, ungainly, etc.
Both sides should put their egos aside and work for this country instead of furthering their policitical points of view, when it's all over she will resign for sure.

P Patel is a devious ghastly woman who will hopefully lose her seat when the new boundaries come in place. The blonde woman who was droning on about local authority funding in such a way that she wasn't even convincing herself was Justine Greening I think. She didn't seem her usual bouncy confident self

jura2 Mon 01-Oct-18 20:08:01

Prity Patel is quite a b**ch- wow. Asking Mrs May why she is on the defensive. Who needs friends, when ....

And who, sorry I forgot her name, is the blond woman stating again and again there has been no cut in services?

Is that really the best they can muster?

I watched a bit of the Conservative Party conference on TV today and I have to say I was appalled at the way it was orchestrated.

All the speakers I heard were ardent brexiters, the types that not so long ago might have been in UKIP, described by David Cameron as "fruitcakes". Swivel-eyed to a man - and woman. They do not bear any resemblance to normal human beings of the type I've ever encountered. How is it possible for these few folk on the political extreme to hold our country to ransome?

jura2 Sun 30-Sept-18 20:28:05

... to be fair, I do believe most of us would have snapped a long time ago. I don't know how she keeps going - her face has aged 20 years in a few months too- despite heavier and heavier make up to hide it.

In that sense, I take my hat to her - and, again, 1000x better than the alternatives on offer- BoJo, Rees Mogg, Gove and co.

trisher Sun 30-Sept-18 20:08:18

I did think there was a note of panic sneaking into TM's voice this morning almost as if she is just clinging on and might snap at any moment (and the conference hasn't even started!)

MaizieD Sun 30-Sept-18 19:36:22

She is like the chief lemming leading us over the cliff.

Can I remind people once again that the lemmings didn't jump. They were pushed.

jura2 Sun 30-Sept-18 19:22:07

well yes, and yet- Hobson's choice again...

much rather have her than BoJo, Ress Mogg, Micheal Gove, etc.

varian Sun 30-Sept-18 19:06:05

It was quite scary watching the robotic TM on Andrew Marr's programme this morning. She may be resiliant and able to hang on in there, but she seems to be incapable of listening and totally inflexible. She is like the chief lemming leading us over the cliff.

jura2 Sun 30-Sept-18 17:45:50

No Deal = WTO rules - and a massive drop of circa 8% of GDP- much much more than the last financia crisis- AND a hard border in Ireland- as pointed out very clearly by Andrew Marr to Mrs May this morning.

jura2 Sun 30-Sept-18 17:23:07

Or Green - even ;)

I'd definitely vote for Lib Dems for sure.

jura2 Sun 30-Sept-18 17:22:06

So, she now promises 120 Million for a Festival of Britain to celebrate Brexit. Will it really be popular?

Lovetopaint037 Sun 30-Sept-18 17:16:29

Boris Johnson is doing his usual bulldozing to oust her. It’s my worst nightmare. Johnson as prime minister. In which case believe the country will be shafted just as that poor woman in the Iranian was by his incompetence. If he stands as leader in an election I wouldn’t be able to vote for Corbyn and co and there would be no choice other than to abstain or even vote Liberal!!!

Anniebach Sun 30-Sept-18 17:07:19

That thread was an explanation as to why i blow a fuse on political tbreads when that man crops up and why I get angered to read ‘the health and safety act ‘ can be seen as a tribute to the children. All I have said each time, those children and the 28 adults needed justice not tributes. I will continue to say the same about my views of the the unions having control over a labour government. I felt I should give a full explanation for my flair ups.
