According to Labour List the three big issues set to dominate the conference this year.

1. Rule Changes. 2. Anti semitism. Brexit.

1. Comes under the democracy review proposals (plus open parlimentary selections ) another round which will be discussed and voted on by the NEC on Saturday.

2. Will likely crop up at fringe events !!!!

3. Mainly revolves around the idea of a second referendum
- termed ‘ a people’s vote’ by its advocates - and could change Labour .policy dramatically.

I think we know Annie ?

Anniebach Fri 28-Sept-18 16:17:13

I voted for Harold Wilson and every labour leader after him , the 70’s , and 80’s were grime , canvassed for everyone untill last year , will not vote if Corbyn is leader at the next election.

Anniebach Fri 28-Sept-18 16:08:18

I got into trouble in the 1970 election, sitting in the polling station crossing off voters as they gave their cards, at that time a police officer was in every polling station, my husband was still in uniform then, he came into the polling station to do his bit, he was jerking his head at me, ooops, police wives were not allowed to be openly involved in politics, even posters not allowed in windows of police houses, I did my alloted time anyway.

I was 21 with my first then 2 more in quick succession, over and done with, didn't mind looking after my own, or the house - eventually, the first was a mobile home in February.
So I went from parties to marriage to kids, no regrets

I think my first vote was for Jim Callahan, then Kinnock, my first success was Blair, seemed a good idea at the time but like Thatcher it all went sour in the end.
Call me a Blairite if you want, I'm a world away from the politics of this years conference but it doesn't matter because Corbyn has more chance of becoming President of Russia than Prime Minister of the UK.
In fact if there were an election now the Tories would probably win despite their problems

OldMeg Fri 28-Sept-18 15:55:50

Exactly nightowl

Good on you Annie. I knocked on doors to find out if they had voted yet and if they hadn’t I flagged down a car to take them to the Polling Station. One old lady told me she was going to vote Conservative anyway ?

nightowl Fri 28-Sept-18 15:27:29

If having babies doesn’t make you think about politics then I don’t know what will.

Anniebach Fri 28-Sept-18 15:17:47

I leaflet dropped for the 1970 election and the 2 in 1974, with pushchair ?

nigglynellie Fri 28-Sept-18 15:14:25

Can't say that I gave politics a seconds thought!!!

nigglynellie Fri 28-Sept-18 15:13:25

I had my two in 1965 and 1968. No question of going out to work even if child care existed which it didn't. I loved being at home with them and would not have wanted even my dearly loved mother to look after them which in any case was hardly practical as we lived in Cornwall/Dorset in those far off days!!. Ok we didn't have much in the way of 'things' and what we did were usually hand me downs including a broom!!! but we were happy and more importantly contented.

Ilovecheese Fri 28-Sept-18 15:04:48

Didn't stop me thinking about politics either, oldmeg

Anniebach Fri 28-Sept-18 14:58:10

I had my babies 1969, 1970, I certaintly didn’t go out to work.

OldMeg Fri 28-Sept-18 14:42:53

Gosh! And I thought us women could multitask.

I had my babies in the 70s too. Didn’t stop me being a full time person.

Diana54 Fri 28-Sept-18 14:21:38

I was actually wondering what grandad1943 was doing in the 1970s
Me I was too busy having babies to worry about politics

Anniebach Fri 28-Sept-18 14:14:30

niggly, it’s what Corbyn claimed he was bringing to the party, ‘ a gentler politics’ , not to the fore with truth is Corby .

Anniebach Fri 28-Sept-18 14:12:16

Debate? We had a debating group in school, foul language would have not been allowed and one side not allowed to go on and on and on.

MawBroon Fri 28-Sept-18 14:02:15

Anyway back to work, will debate later

Oh is that what you call it Grandad?
Memo , don’t bother.

nigglynellie Fri 28-Sept-18 13:59:34

Not everyone is unhappy with the gig economy. Some people find the flexibility an asset in their busy lives. One size doesn't necessarily fit all and in any case why should Annie have to condemn it just because you and your ilk say so?! Surely it's not obligatory?!
So what in fact you're saying G.d, is that the new improved LP cannot countenance any criticism in any shape or form and yet I've always understood that the LP is a broad church encompassing every spectrum of the Labour movement? How can this be if freedom of thought is suppressed? Surely it would be better to try to persuade people of the virtues and benefits of a left wing government instead of using insults and bullying when these qualities are called into question? Calling annie names, using the word 'disgusting' when commenting on her views, is hardly going to make Annie change her attitude or convert anyone else!

Anniebach Fri 28-Sept-18 13:22:22

Not calling names ? Let me think, I am a turd ? according to the union spokesman who doesn’t do name calling. ?

Oh and I am despised by the Labour Party, they still take my money , have asked me to canvass for the Welsh Labour Leaders contest . And when I recover from a illness I now have, a dinner will be held for me to thank me for my work for the Labour Party for over fifty years. ?

Grandad1943 Fri 28-Sept-18 13:14:04

Not calling names nigglynellie, purely stating the fact that anniebach is a closet Tory hiding under a myth of Labour party supporter.

Annie has no empathy whatsoever with the present day Labour movement or party. She will not even condemn the Gig Economy that one in five British workers are trapped in and so cripples the trade union movement and companies that wish to offer reasonable employment terms to employees.

Disgusting.

Anniebach Fri 28-Sept-18 13:13:38

Momentum Tatics, bully you way through ?

GrannyGravy13 Fri 28-Sept-18 13:10:22

Grandmashe43 ????

Anniebach Fri 28-Sept-18 13:10:19

Miners strike. Russia gave £1,000,000 to the Welsh miners.

Arthur Scargill , formely a member of the communist party placed the money in a Dublin Bank, he refused to pay it back, used some to pay for renovations to his own home.

Some miners in Wales lost their homes, some lost their lives

1993 Scargill tried to buy his Barbican flat through ‘right to buy ‘ refused because it was his 2nd home ! .

After stepping down as Union leader Arthur became active in the U.K. Stalin Party, he said ‘ the ideas of Marx, Engels,Lenin and Stalin explained the real world.

A long standing friend of Corbyn, he formed The Socialist Labour .party !

Grandmashe43 Fri 28-Sept-18 13:02:45

Trisher, I have just reported your dreadful post about annie

nigglynellie Fri 28-Sept-18 12:53:39

Calling people names gets you nothing but derision G.d. Surely you are articulate enough not to have to resort that sort of cat calling?!
I too remember those days G.G, Red Robo comes to mind, but worse than that was the in ability to bury the dead, truly shocking and put me off socialism and trade unions for life!!

GrannyGravy13 Fri 28-Sept-18 12:44:13

I went for a job at a big Fleet Street newspaper just after I had left school, I got the job.

The offer was rescinded 1 week later as I did not want to join the union and apparently it was a "closed shop".

Haven't been a fan since, I can remember 3 day weeks, fuel shortages, postal strikes and generally holding the country and government to ransom.

I
