According to Labour List the three big issues set to dominate the conference this year.

1. Rule Changes. 2. Anti semitism. Brexit.

1. Comes under the democracy review proposals (plus open parlimentary selections ) another round which will be discussed and voted on by the NEC on Saturday.

2. Will likely crop up at fringe events !!!!

3. Mainly revolves around the idea of a second referendum
- termed ‘ a people’s vote’ by its advocates - and could change Labour .policy dramatically.

Never mind grannygravy. After Brexit, when we 'take back control" you will have nice British drug dealers, pimps and prostitutes after we get rid of all the foreign ones. The cheek of them eh? Coming over and taking local people's jobs.

I have no problem with immigration. I have a problem with drug dealers, pimps and "professional beggars".

It just so happens that in this instance the main perpetrators are not from the UK.

Perhaps it’s not Labour run councils you are criticising. Perhaps you are critical of the Conservative Government’s unwillingness to control immigration as they are entitled to do under EU law.

“But the biggest deception is this: we could easily have taken back control of our borders already under European Parliament and Council Directive 2004/38/EC, which allows EU member states to repatriate EU nationals after three months if they have not found a job or do not have the means to support themselves.”

Other countries, such as Belgium, regularly repatriate thousands of individuals based on this directive. If the public knew we had this ability, perhaps the fear that exists would dissipate. Why is the government not using it, and why is the British public not aware of it?
from the Guardian.

The problems have been exacerbated by the relocation of people from outside the area.

The problem is contained in a relatively small part of the town unfortunately that area is the main High Street.

The Council is on the whole very successful, this can be seen in the surrounding areas which are flourishing.

Er yes I know grannygravy.
On Tuesday you said your village was run by a Conservative council and was very well run and prosperous implying that Labour areas were badly run and couldn’t manage their budgets.
Then you said the nearby town was shocking and was a no go area run by gangs. As this is also run by a Conservative Council and the National Government has been Conservative for the last eight years I wonder how you explain the problems? Conservative rule is clearly not working for your local town.

My comments on the previous page referred to immigrants too. I assumed this had been one of the subjects discussed at the conference.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 27-Sept-18 16:51:05

mostlyharmless someone posted a few days ago that perhaps the homeless people should be relocated to "nice" areas of the SE.

My post was a follow up, of a discussion from yesterday.

I know, I know, it is from the Guardian, and yet ....

"Almost every rightwing editorial and commentator warns the Tories that Labour has the high ground in ideas, dynamism and popular appeal. Be afraid, Corbynism is shifting the ground beneath the Tories’ feet and they sound knee-knocking scared."

and also the reason why Leavers are so afraid of a vote on the final deal too ...

mostlyharmless Thu 27-Sept-18 16:09:26

How is this linked to the Labour Party Conference (title of the thread) Grannygravy?
You praised the village you lived in for being very well run by a Conservative council who managed their budget effectively. It sounds lovely.
But now you are also strongly criticising a nearby Conservative council run town (I think) for being a very unpleasant place to visit, badly out of control and being controlled by Albanian gangs and Roma. I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make?

GrannyGravy13 Thu 27-Sept-18 10:45:13

I went to dinner last night with H to a local Italian Restaurant, only to find that it was under new ownership with new chefs and staff. We were chatting to the owner and his wife, they were talking about moving out of the seaside town I mentioned on here.

He was also complaining about the Albanians "running the working girls and the majority of the "drug industry" whilst the Roma people were known for their begging.

He then told us he was Albanian and ashamed of his fellow countrymen.

I wish him well, the food was delicious and the atmosphere family friendly, we will continue to go there and tell others about it.

A lesson learned!!!

wink

jura2 Wed 26-Sept-18 21:32:30

... oh yes, and so so predictable - could have taken bets on it. How infantile ;)

lemongrove Wed 26-Sept-18 21:32:09

All that he said has been reported in online news.I wasn’t surprised by any of it.

lemongrove Wed 26-Sept-18 21:30:19

It was irresistible to say ‘no’ jura as you ended your sentence with a ‘no’? grin

jura2 Wed 26-Sept-18 21:27:55

But I guess you did listen Jane, before passing judgement. I can you reply 'no' lemon - whilst at the same time saying you didn't not even bother to listen.

I listen to Mrs May and many others before commenting, yes, even Rees Mogg, even Johnson- even, yes, Farage. Perhaps the real issue with staunch and obsessive compulsive leavers?

lemongrove Wed 26-Sept-18 21:22:19

I didn’t listen to it jura as I am no masochist.
Rabble rousing speeches are Corbyn’s stock in trade so no doubt he thrilled his fans.

Jane10 Wed 26-Sept-18 21:20:42

Very easy to stand up and say what everyone in that particular venue wanted to hear. Talk is cheap.

jura2 Wed 26-Sept-18 21:15:22

Ah shame you didn't like it - what was wrong with it ;)

... and I am no Corbyn fan btw.

lemongrove Wed 26-Sept-18 20:50:07

No.

jura2 Wed 26-Sept-18 20:40:06

Well that was a rousing speech, no?

Anniebach Wed 26-Sept-18 10:29:40

I wonder if the son of Jenny Formby the newly appointed Labour general secretary and Len McClusky has a job in labour HQ , his surname could be Formby, Sandle or McClusky I suppose . Cosy isn’t it, Formby and McClusky, Corbyn and Abbott .

Anniebach Wed 26-Sept-18 10:22:39

Gilly, the MP who called for it won her seat last year with a majority of 48. Seems she has no knowledge of the 1926 national strike.

gillybob Wed 26-Sept-18 10:13:48

The LP's call for a national strike was highlighted on our local BBC radio news this morning. Anniebach I am shocked and disgusted that anyone could think this was a step forward.

oldbatty Wed 26-Sept-18 10:06:26

Never mind fennel. If you find the plot, let me know where it was hiding.

Fennel Wed 26-Sept-18 09:57:59

Sorry I've lost the plot .Disregard my input, I hadn't read the whole thread.
