The Nasty Labour Party - what they really stand for.

Rod Liddle took Labour to the cleaners on Question Time. I fully agree with his assessment.

“I really wish that the people who were taken in by [Labour] and agreed with that, would look to the left beyond the podium and see the rabble with their Palestinian flags and their lanyards sponsored by Hamas, would look to the raft of hypocrites on the Labour front bench. Thornberry, Abbott, Chakrabarti – all of whom don’t want you to send your kids to private schools or selective schools but do so for their kids, and for Corbyn and McDonnell, who have given support and succour to every possible hostile, violent, anti-democratic terrorist regime or organisation they can. IRA, Hamas, Hezbollah, Soviet Union, Cuba, Venezuela.

If you want people like that running your country, vote for Corbyn.”

All those gransnetters who love and support the NHS could you please do something positive to help save it from cuts and being sold off to private businesses.

It is quite funny that the people who criticise the Labour party do so by using expressions such as it being hijacked by Marxists actually the party has gone back to its original roots which were always that of democratic socialism. I know that some of you find this concept difficult to understand and it requires a little more effort than hard left Marxism, but surely reality is worth it. As for this concept constantly being promoted that somehow the left believe all Tories are wealthy well I have posted about this before. But it is, once again, a myth some choose to believe.
And what do I, or any other person who believes in the principles of a welfare state, and that the most vulnerable people in society deserve protection and support, have in common with Tories? Nothing. They are ruining the education system, have presided over the continuing privatisation of the NHS (and have openly advocated this), have created an economy where zero hours contracts have undermined workers' rights, and will, once Brexit has been completed, begin to slowly eradicate the rest of the legislation which has underpinned environmental, consumer and human rights. Why? because they believe that what ultimately counts is not people but profit.

I have always tried to keep debates, regarding politics, focussed on the published policies rather than personalities. I don't always manage it I know but if we all focussed more on policies or what is actually said by politicians rather than what media outlets' opinions or spins are we could have decent debates. Vitriol about personalities is not very helpful to debate.

Day6 is your GN bestie though, no ;)

What is this childish talk of “besties”?
Does anybody over the age of 14 actually use words like that - especially in such a derogatory way?

Day6 Sun 07-Oct-18 20:13:22

Or anarchists even.

Day6 Sun 07-Oct-18 20:12:34

Good grief Jura! Do grow up!

I posted the transcript of Rod Liddle's criticism -broadcast to the nation on Question Time!

I completely sympathise with Annie, as do many, many posters who appreciate her anger that the Labour Party has been hijacked by Marxists, and now has an NEC made up of his Momentum supporters.

You are another who uses the word "Conservative" (or Tory) as if it were a dirty word. Another living in the past who imagines only the wealthy support the Conservatives.

Time to appreciate that working people and those with very little now have more in common with them than they do with Labour. It is a crying shame, but one does have to ask, is the Labour Party now redundant and just a vehicle for revolutionaries to board?

Anniebach Sun 07-Oct-18 18:34:48

I don’t do ‘besties’

lemongrove Sun 07-Oct-18 18:33:30

Exactly!
You said ‘Hear hear NatashaGransnet’ about the thread moving on, so how about doing just that jura.

Chewbacca Sun 07-Oct-18 18:29:54

Oh for goodness jura your posts are becoming more and more childish and silly now. If you feel so strongly about the title of a discussion, take it up with GNHQ but for heaven's sake stop with the "Day6 is your bestie" type comments. It's just so ridiculous and deters anyone from joining in a discussion. Please. Enough. Let's just move on with the discussion at hand.

Day6 is your GN bestie though, no ;)

Anniebach Sun 07-Oct-18 18:07:35

My friends haven’t joined this forum

jura2 Sun 07-Oct-18 17:45:02

The 'nasty' Labour party thread was first posted by your friend- the 'nasty' young Conservatives sadly mirrored this- pot, kettle style.

Not of my choosing.

Anniebach Sun 07-Oct-18 17:36:00

Yet you posted on it

jura2 Sun 07-Oct-18 17:33:29

Yes

Anniebach Sun 07-Oct-18 17:32:10

jura, you want the title ‘The Nasty Young Conservatives ‘ change ?

Iam64 Sun 07-Oct-18 17:07:55

Oh dear - reading so quickly I got my Bevan's mixed up
Apologies. No apologies though for commenting on the rather unpleasant comments to Jalima.

lemongrove Sun 07-Oct-18 16:55:46

So, that’s you told, Natasha grin
In fact jura if a mod changed the title then that would be Big Brother style ( 1984, not the gormless tv show.)

jura2 Sun 07-Oct-18 15:28:06

On the one and only other Forum I am on - a friendly mod would have sent a pm saying 'title changed to avoid getting on the wrong foot' or similar.

jura2 Sun 07-Oct-18 15:27:12

hear, hear Natasha. I respect the decision from GN to be really hands off with moderating - and yet- when a conversation starts with such an unpleasant title, and the word 'nasty' aimed at a group of people- it is not easy to keep it friendly- as it has started all wrong from the beginning.

NatashaGransnet (GNHQ) Sun 07-Oct-18 14:51:29

Hi all,

Just a friendly reminder to please refrain from personal insults. It'd be great to get the discussion back on track.smile

Anniebach Sun 07-Oct-18 14:37:49

Liddle use to be a speech writer and researcher for the Labour Party, he is a party member , suspended

Jalima1108 Sun 07-Oct-18 14:13:02

Maybe get some REAL information about hypocrisy before spouting off about the opposition when your own bunch of charlatans could win prizes for it
Yes, it sounds as if paddyann was responding to Rod Liddle. I wonder if he read her post?

ROD - are you listening?

Jalima1108 Sun 07-Oct-18 14:11:27

I think it was a case of "Whataboutery"

Surprising what you learn on GN

Anniebach Sun 07-Oct-18 13:45:32

So Paddyann was replying to Rod Liddle ?

Anniebach Sun 07-Oct-18 13:40:06

Saying someone is spouting is attacking
