The Nasty Labour Party - what they really stand for.

Rod Liddle took Labour to the cleaners on Question Time. I fully agree with his assessment.

“I really wish that the people who were taken in by [Labour] and agreed with that, would look to the left beyond the podium and see the rabble with their Palestinian flags and their lanyards sponsored by Hamas, would look to the raft of hypocrites on the Labour front bench. Thornberry, Abbott, Chakrabarti – all of whom don’t want you to send your kids to private schools or selective schools but do so for their kids, and for Corbyn and McDonnell, who have given support and succour to every possible hostile, violent, anti-democratic terrorist regime or organisation they can. IRA, Hamas, Hezbollah, Soviet Union, Cuba, Venezuela.

If you want people like that running your country, vote for Corbyn.”

^ It could have been taken further and discussed rationally but the first post did not do that.^

That's as maybe but Paddyann did not attack anyone personally and did not deserve to be personally attacked in subsequent posts.

Jalima1108 Sun 07-Oct-18 12:53:19

Possibly, especially as the poster says she is not a Labour supporter.
But we knew that anyway.

The OP was not a pro-Tory rant by the OP or in any way encouraging people to vote Tory; it was just a reference to what a journalist said on QT, all of which could be checked out in fact, if not already common knowledge. It could have been taken further and discussed rationally but the first post did not do that.

Anniebach Sun 07-Oct-18 12:18:34

So it wasn’t a response to the OP? Wrong thread ?

MaizieD Sun 07-Oct-18 12:13:00

Hypocrites, liars and supporters of dodgy regimes? Sure we're not talking TORY ? Look at the tories in depth and find out the people they have supported in the past .Anyone who believes the treatment of the Palestinians is right is no better than the Nazi's .Well we know the Tories are right of Attila the Hun sh thats about right ! I'm NOT a labour supporter but really the hypocrisy of tories telling us how awful ANYONE else is is hard to accept.Just listen to that wonderful "christian" woman Mrs May who has destroyed the lives of the poor ,the sick the elderly and vulnerable...who has MORE children in poverty and more suicides and deaths of people due to DWP and then there's the DUP ,what can one say!!! Maybe get some REAL information about hypocrisy before spouting off about the opposition when your own bunch of charlatans could win prizes for it .

Paddyann's post (just to save flicking backwards and forwards)

How can it possibly be a response to the OP? The OP didn't spout off about anything. Just posted the Liddle stuff, said she agreed with it, and more or less left it there

Anniebach Sun 07-Oct-18 12:01:14

If I want to play a game then scrabble for me .

Refusal to admit lemon

lemongrove Sun 07-Oct-18 11:37:33

I think it’s either one upmanship Annie or a blind refusal to see unpleasant posts from other left wing posters.hmm

trisher Sun 07-Oct-18 11:28:32

Snap Annie it's a game you know.

Jalima1108 Sun 07-Oct-18 11:18:06

Spelling Bee?

Anniebach Sun 07-Oct-18 11:14:27

Waving back to Iam.

trisher, “ you win Maizie” ? win what?

Anniebach Sun 07-Oct-18 11:11:57

“Maybe get some real information before spouting off”

This was a reply to the OP

Jalima1108 Sun 07-Oct-18 11:10:28

Thanks Iam64, yes, Grandad's post was unpleasant but quite astonishing and absolutely ridiculous too.
And I was five when Ernest Bevin died. I am sure he was very earnest too.

I didn't even have a flag until 1953 - a Union Jack to wave on Coronation Day. grin

trisher Sun 07-Oct-18 11:05:35

You win MaizieD ! grin

MawBroon Sun 07-Oct-18 11:01:26

“Being”

MaizieD Sun 07-Oct-18 11:01:05

Personal attack on whom, Annie?

I don't see any names named and if you read it without trying to find a hidden personal attack it makes more sense to interpret it as a response 'spoken' to Liddle.

MawBroon Sun 07-Oct-18 11:00:43

Oh dear!
Bev I n Boys, conscripted in WW2 to work in the coal mines, to produce vital coal supplies, by Earnest Bevin

You forget the importance of bring Ernest, MaizieD grin .

MaizieD Sun 07-Oct-18 10:57:59

Snap! trisher

MaizieD Sun 07-Oct-18 10:57:28

You're confusing your Bevans/Bevins, Iam.

Bev I n Boys, conscripted in WW2 to work in the coal mines, to produce vital coal supplies, by Earnest Bevin.

Nye Bev A n, architect of the NHS and origin of some venomous quotes about tories and a warning to those who stand in the middle of the road.

trisher Sun 07-Oct-18 10:55:50

Iam64 If you do. read a thread could you try at least to get the facts right.
Nye Bevan -responsible for the NHS and calling Tories Vermin
Ernest Bevin responsible for the Bevin boys in the mines.

Anniebach Sun 07-Oct-18 10:52:10

Maizie, the OP was a posters opinion on the political parties.

Paddyann replied with a personal attack , you must have skipped that post

Iam64 Sun 07-Oct-18 10:42:11

Ive been away and missed all the ' fun' here. The latest nonsense about Bevan may qualify for the most unpleasant exchanges I've seen since trying to catch up with gransnet. Grandad has topped his/her own level of unpleasantness in the suggestion that Jalima would rather have a nazi flag flying over Downing Street than the Bevan boys working in the mines to support the war effort.
Over and out from me, other than a friendly wave to Chewbacca, Annie and Jalima for their input here.

MaizieD Fri 05-Oct-18 21:48:53

I went and had a look back at the beginning of this thread. It started with an inflammatory OP which was followed by a general attack on tories by paddyann. At which point it became personal as people waded in to attack Paddyann. 6 posts practically in a row from different posters.

I don't think anyone has shone on this thread.

POGS Fri 05-Oct-18 21:40:02

trisher

From the Rees Mogg Thread and shifted to this thread to follow the flow of your post calling Tories and Centrists VERMIN and ROAD KILL.

You posted this:-

" lemon do get it right I used Nye's words to criticise members of the Tory party and centrist voters, not individual GN posters. "
--

Weasel words trisher that might fool some !

What you are maintaining post after post with your attempt to say ' Not my words so I can't be held accountable ' is disingenuous. You know perfectly well Gransnet has a diversity of posters from various political leanings including Tories and now you have included ' Centrist' voters as VERMIN and ROAD KILL!.

Quoting somebody else to prove a point , attempt to align with their words is nothing short of saying I agree with what he/she/they said . Given the context of your original post that quoted Bevan you were aligning yourself with his quote.

VERMIN and ROAD KILL is exactly what you feel about Tories and whether they are on GN or not, it is a generalisation. Why b----y bother to mention the quote in the first place in the manner you did if you can't stand by your post.

If you or anybody else accuse those who find your opinion distasteful , that's being polite, of ' pearl clutching ' then you just affirm your intended meaning .

Gransnet at it's worst comes out of the closet every now and again and boy you have set the bar low.

Anniebach Fri 05-Oct-18 21:16:56

It is lemon, poor man, his jigging made May look like a winner on Strictly

lemongrove Fri 05-Oct-18 21:14:13

Chewbacca Fri 05-Oct-18 21:13:45

Pot, kettle, black
