Shocking and disgusting indeed.

Mind you, about 15 years ago, I came across a whole pile of trash at the end of the country lane near us in East Mids. I quickly realised as the dog when to sniff it- that there was all sorts of medical implements, seringes, gloves, and all sorts- and lots of papers too. I picked one up, and it was a detailed patient's notes, with full name, address, date of birth- and a full description of their medical condition, their operation and tests. And another, and another. All from our local Nuffield Hospital. I rushed home to phone the Manager at the hospital to warn them and they sent someone up to pick it all up before it hit the Press. I did give them my detail, and they never bothered to even thank me, at all.

I did find the attaché case and business cards of one local businessman a bit before- and phoned him. He was so grateful as it had been stolen from him the night before at the Rugby Club. He came to pick it up immediately- and the next day I received the most massive basket of flowers, chocolate and champagne with a note 'thanks- you saved my life' (as he would have been disciplined and sacked had his bosses found out he had left important info vulnerable in his car).

Is the absolute disgrace of the stockpiling of NHS waste by HES an indication that giving private contracts to the lowest bidder is a stupid policy?
