Leaving UNESCO?

It does seem to me that if there are places considered important hisorically and culturally something like UNESCO should be able to recognise them regardless of who is in power.

Jalima1108 one of the reasons Israel gave was the recognition of Palestine and of Hebron as a World Heritage site. It does seem to me that if there are places considered important hisorically and culturally something like UNESCO should be able to recognise them regardless of who is in power. But I suppose this could be considered political.

Has UNESCO become more political? Unfortunately, many bodies, charities etc which should remain apolitical are increasingly becoming politicised.

Just a thought.

It would be a backwards move though, if we can't support such bodies as UNESCO etc and help preserve world heritage then we risk becoming culturally impoverished ourselves.

Why do not we leave UNESCO, the UN and every other international organisation we have any contact with so that we can become the littlest of little englanders (the name doesn't even deserve a capital)

We could close down all our embassies, build a wall round the coast and become Europe's answer to North Korea, impoverished, zenophobic and convinced that we are the best thing since sliced bread, the cheapest nastiest kind.
