A leadership contest!

So now Mrs May is going to face a vote of no confidence! I find it difficult to believe that a political party would take this action at this time! She’s done well with this poisoned chalice and who could do better than she has?

Parliament has reached an impasse and is split just like the country.

This to my mind is a national emergency and maybe it’s time for a wartime style cabinet so that some consensus could be reached about the way forward.

What a mess!

janeainsworth, tell ‘us’ ! What I mean or tell ‘you’ ?

Anniebach Thu 13-Dec-18 10:30:59

Good grief, I asked a question , if it is against the rules of the forum it will be removed. That’s it.

janeainsworth Thu 13-Dec-18 10:30:19

I assumed annie was making an oblique reference to rape threats towards women of other political persuasions.
Why don’t you tell us what you really mean annie?
Innuendo and sly digs don’t sit well.
Sorry if I’ve got that completely wrong.

GabriellaG54 Thu 13-Dec-18 10:26:50

Will the female MPs who voted against May get threatened with rape?
Why did you say that AnnieBach ?
What makes you think that anyone would make such a threat?
That sentence cannot be construed as a truth because only facts can be construed as either truth or a lie.

Anniebach Thu 13-Dec-18 10:19:49

True Maizie but we cannot deny Labour female MP’s have been targets since 2016, but not before.

mcem Thu 13-Dec-18 10:18:37

Normally support much of what you say annie and disagree with gg's comments, but I do find your 'rape' post thoroughly unacceptable.

GabriellaG54 Thu 13-Dec-18 10:18:29

A coalition would never work, just as a coalition of GNers wouldn't. Too many intransigent hardliners. Imagine if we were in a room discussing this with no mediation. No doubt it would rival some of the commons' outbursts.

merlotgran Thu 13-Dec-18 10:17:34

I found it a strange comment coming from you as well, Anniebach

Can you explain it please? confused

MaizieD Thu 13-Dec-18 10:16:25

I'm afraid that threats of rape are not confined to the LP. Any woman who is known to the public and has a 'voice', in whatever walk of life, is likely to experience them. There is a very nasty element in our society and it should be recognised that it is not confined to one particular group.

Anniebach Thu 13-Dec-18 10:12:34

I posted thectruth, you said it was out of order and controversial, I then asked a question .

Jane10 Thu 13-Dec-18 10:10:17

Re Labour - remember the famous phrase 'its the economy stupid'. The country has to generate employment and wealth before it can start distributing extra funding to all and sundry. Labour's cunning plans will bankrupt us. I doubt Corbyn has the support from his MPs that May has btw.
Time for a national coalition as I suggested months ago.

GabriellaG54 Thu 13-Dec-18 10:09:13

It wasn't a truth, it was a question. Has anyone made this threat and if yes, who?

Anniebach Thu 13-Dec-18 10:07:26

Do you ? I don’t

GabriellaG54 Thu 13-Dec-18 10:05:52

I find the last sentence wholly distasteful.

Anniebach Thu 13-Dec-18 10:04:08

Gabriella. I certaintly wasn’t joking , I said the truth, you find truth controversial ?

Anniebach Thu 13-Dec-18 10:01:03

Evette Cooper and Hilary Benn resigned from the shadow cabinet

GabriellaG54 Thu 13-Dec-18 10:00:59

Anniebach
That last sentence in your comment at 09:07 is a bit out of order.
Why say something so controversial, it's certainly nothing to joke about?

Beammeupscottie Thu 13-Dec-18 09:49:57

Labour are not perfect, I know, and I dislike Corbyn but feel, nevertheless, they are a better bet at this moment in the Country's history as they have more respect for the common man hit by cruel welfare custs et al. and still have good people like Evette C., Starmer, Benn.
If only they would endorse "Stop Brexit" they would have a landslide victory.

Lewie Thu 13-Dec-18 09:34:10

Absolutely agree with you easybee. Well put.

Anniebach Thu 13-Dec-18 09:24:05

Labour inclusive ? When Corbyn won the confidence vote John McDonald stood on the stage of the O2 and called fellow MP’s who voted against Corbyn ‘ f*****g losers’

Beammeupscottie Thu 13-Dec-18 09:20:49

If someone like me with vested interest (financial)in voting Tory is contemplating ditching that Party, they are in trouble. I had heated discussion with OH yesterday, when he grudgingly agreed the Tories had shot themselves in the foot with Brexit. I watch Brexiteers spouting on tv and I am appalled. JRM is the pits. The Country needs a better, more inclusive Government, so I will give Labour a chance.

Anniebach Thu 13-Dec-18 09:07:47

Will Mrs May have a hit List. Will the female MP’s who voted against May be threatened with rape ?

Anniebach Thu 13-Dec-18 09:03:48

My hope of survival certaintly isn’t Corbyn, McDonald and McClusky.

Rosina Thu 13-Dec-18 09:00:24

Don't you just love the impartiality of the BBC?
Every commentator managed to squeeze in that 'a third of her party voted against her' - not one of them managed to say that two thirds of the party voted for her.
As for 'survival under a Labour government ' - God help us. JC on the world stage in his anorak ? Dianne Abbott as Chancellor of the Exchequer? Floodgates open to the world? Roll up, roll up - watch Great Britain sink slowly, bankrupt and without an inch of floorspace left, into the North Sea.

Urmstongran Thu 13-Dec-18 08:54:03

I agree crystaltipps ... as I said, a funny old world.
