Anyone with a brain cell can see for themselves that he said "stupid woman". I would have had a little bit of respect if he had owned up and apologised, but he's just blatantly lied at the ballot box. Who looks stupid now?

Nicenanny3 Thu 20-Dec-18 10:08:27

I think it's a big deal that he lied when it was obvious what he said.

mumofmadboys Thu 20-Dec-18 10:04:16

May was being silly and stupid.
May is a woman.
No big deal even if Corbyn called her a stupid woman.
I think she was being a stupid woman at that moment of time.

Nicenanny3 Thu 20-Dec-18 10:00:31

As Jeremy Corbyn is 69 years old perhaps he has the first stages of dementia.

Nonnie Thu 20-Dec-18 09:59:35

It was "stupid woman", no doubt of that. Surely the point is that no party leader should say such a thing, not whether he was provoked or having a bad day or any other excuse. If he wants to lead our country he should know better. He should also learn to apologise, when he is in the wrong.

I don't even think he wrote the 'clarification' he read out. I think his spin doctors told him what to say.

He just isn't up to the job and Dianne Abbott's defence of him on the radio this morning was pathetic. She should go back to wherever she has been hiding recently. Where is Jess Philips? She normal plays drama queen about anything to do with women being maltreated.

A very balanced and sensible post IMO Luckygirl and exactly mirrors my view.

Anniebach Thu 20-Dec-18 09:03:31

He did say stupid woman , some think this is acceptable

Was it acceptable to lie to the house ?

The man lies, there was traingate

The wall mural which he admired , ‘ I didn’t look closely’

The anti semetic group on the jnternet ‘ I didn’t read it’

The wreath laying for terrorists ‘ I was there but I don’t know if I was involved’

How can some keep denying he spoke these lies?

MaizieD Thu 20-Dec-18 08:53:03

If he'd said 'stupid person' would that have been OK?

I cannot believe what a mountain range is being made out of a worm cast.

eazybee Thu 20-Dec-18 08:04:27

Don't particularly blame Corbyn for mouthing 'stupid woman' after May's pantomime... and stupid performance.
What I do mind, after describing him yesterday as a man of principle, is his scuttling from the Chamber and returning later with his written notes, pretending he mouthed 'stupid people.'
No, we are not.

MawBroon Thu 20-Dec-18 07:44:11

Great minds think very nearly alike merlotgran !

Day6 Thu 20-Dec-18 04:00:14

I am surprised at the women here defending him.

'He was provoked'? Isn't that a defence used by brutal men who strike women?

Oh, that makes his misogynist, sexist response ok then. confused

Day6 Thu 20-Dec-18 03:55:45

There is absolutely no doubt Corbyn said "stupid woman".

That was a sexist and misogynist remark.
It is unacceptable. It does not matter which female it was aimed at.

I am very disappointed that strong women (imo) like Harriet Harman, Yvette Cooper, and Jess Phillips didn't denounce him. How must the women in the Labour Party feel?

Corbyn is a very weak specimen of a man imo. He is weasel like.

Dictionary definition: The verb weasel means to sneak or evade

Sums up Corbyn.

POGS Thu 20-Dec-18 01:45:46

I watched PMQ's today and Politics Live and there was no real doubt Corbyn said ' Stupid Woman'. Even Labour MP Barry Gardiner looked embarrassed and had to admit it looked like Corbyn said ' Stupid Woman'.

I find it intriguing how easy Corbyn is defended by those who on another day would be outraged by such behaviour. Lord knows we have thread after thread that has raised misogyny , the way female politicians are regarded and yet when Corbyn displays such undiplomatic behaviour he can be excused. Very hypocritical.

I actually think had Corbyn simply said something along the lines of ''''Sorry I got a bit overheated and did not abide by the Parliamentary Etiquette expected of my position as Opposition Leader ''' then things would have blown over . However to go on and make things worse by making out he said the word ' people ' when it is as clear as a bell what he said this will be seen as another Corbyn Traingate scenario of weaseling out of his actions..

He deserves the flack not necessarily because of what he said as much as the fact he did not own up to his actions .

Yes, taunting is inappropriate as is JC lying about what he said and the Speaker being partisan. I’m horrified by what I see and hear of the HoC.

Luckygirl Wed 19-Dec-18 22:08:34

I agree that he probably said stupid woman. He should not have said it. I am not particularly exercised that he said woman - it is rude whether he said woman, man, people. We do not want that in the house that makes our laws. But neither do we want TM's taunting - she should have been acting in a statesperson like manner and having serious discussions about the situation in which we now find ourselves, thanks to her.

This childish taunting is pointless and makes me despair.

Corbyn just lacks a certain delivery.

TBH I dont think there us anything worse in saying “stupid woman” than “stupid man” or as in Dads Army, “stupid boy”
Or indeed that “stupid people” is any better. Unparliamentary language, whichever one he used.

Anniebach Wed 19-Dec-18 21:28:50

4 expert lip readers employed by SKY say it was ‘woman’
I still place my trust in my younger daughter who has been lip reading for 40 years, useful when she doesn’t want to wear hearing aids, she said ‘woman’ . He stood there and lied to the house.

lemongrove Wed 19-Dec-18 20:38:16

Having had a hearing problem since I was a child I am pretty good at lip reading as I have always done it.
DH asked me what I thought Corbyn was saying ( he had recorded it) and I had no idea before I watched the clip what I was supposed to be seeing, it was quite obvious that it was ‘stupid woman’.
What he should have done immediately when challenged, was to say ‘sorry, I shouldn’t have muttered that but I was very angry’ instead, he gets angrier and lies.
What a fool the man is.

Washerwoman Wed 19-Dec-18 20:16:45

I had the Jeremy Vine show on the radio as the story broke and they had Evelyn Glennie as a guest and as a lip reader she saw it as 'woman'.Tbh as he was responding as TM was speaking it's seems more logical he said woman .But what do I know. The whole H of C is a shambles.

Anniebach Wed 19-Dec-18 20:10:12

What May does or doesn’t do has nothing to do with it,
Is it acceptable to call a fellow MP a stupid woman ?

phoenix Wed 19-Dec-18 19:54:23

The man is an oik.

Really can't imagine him in consultation with other world leaders, let alone in meetings with Her Maj.

paddyann Wed 19-Dec-18 19:46:31

nothing siad about Denis Skinner calling an SNP..MP ashit or Soames telling Ian Blackford to "go back to Skye" OUR democratially eleccted MP's deserve respect from the other parties .Bercow is very selective about what he hears !!

Luckygirl Wed 19-Dec-18 19:39:54

Sadly, I am not sure that TM has anything constructive to offer either. Hence this mess.

Smileless2012 Wed 19-Dec-18 19:25:24

If the leader of the labour party had something constructive to offer on Brexit or any other issue affecting the country, perhaps things would be less chaotic.
